Praise - I got my first Siamese kitten and Oriental Shorthair kitten from Joyce in 1988. This pair was the most dear, gentle, loving example of cats I have ever known. They were like children to me. My experience with her was all good.

Cats of Velvet Paws is one of the most popular cattery's in the world and Joyce (when she was in better health) traveled all over the world and has hundreds of trophy's, ribbons, and awards for all the felines that she has raised. She is a master of genetics and has raised Siamese, Burmese, Abasinian, Persian, and many others too numerous to mention here. Just because she has denied someone the purchase of a cat because she thought that the cat would not have a good home that doesn't mean that that person has to slander her and her business. I challenge anyone to visit Velvet Paws and if you don't leave there with a smile on your face and see how beautiful her home really is and realize what a wonderful person that you met then shame on you.

Please beware if you're thinking of buying a Siamese or Oriental Shorthair kitten from this breeder/cattery because she keeps her cats and kittens caged. I say ??buyer beware? because I grew up on a horse farm around so many loved animals (pet rabbits, goats, dogs, cats, hamsters, horses, ponies, etc.) and I just especially love cats. I??ve had cats my whole life and cannot image my life without them. I??m especially fond of Siamese thus the reason I happened upon Joyce??s cattery "Joy's Velvet Paws Cattery" (or also known as ??Cats of Velvet Paws?) in Wayne, NJ. I was looking to purchase another loving pet as a new member of my family, but when I visited this cattery I was completely appalled at what I saw because her cattery consists of all cats (roughly between 15-20 kittens & cats) all being caged in an semi-finished basement of her home with a cement floor with no nice windows for outside light and view for the kitties - just dismal wall to wall cages (some cages next to the Washer & Dryer).
Please know it is in my opinion when considering on purchasing a kitten or cat from a reputable breeder I believe the first rule of the breeder should be "We believe that great socialization starts first in the home so we never cage raise a kitten" and who believe all of their cats should be treated as loving members of their family even kittens being raised for sale. Cats in a nice loving cattery in my opinion means they should NOT be caged raised - now that's not to say that using cages is necessarily a bad thing if they're being used appropriately by breeders for specific situations, etc. - But when you see EVERY cat in the cattery in cages this should be a warning sign to steer clear!! So you can imagine I was completely shocked and dismayed when I saw all of Joyce??s cats even the kittens caged (OK with the exception of the one (1) mother Siamese cat loose outside the kittens?? cage, but other than that they were all caged).
Please know especially when kittens are caged right from the get go they are robbed of properly developing socializing skills. Kittens need to have plenty of room in a nice "expandable" Nursery to accommodate and stimulate them as they grow and develop - they need space to romp, play & run and jump around with their siblings and their mother and safe interaction with people to properly develop socially to properly interact with other cats and people; and this CANNOT be done in a Cage.
So please be warned if you're thinking of buying kittens/cats from a cattery like this that keep all of their cats in cages because you will probably be inviting a potential problem kitty into your home among other things. I recommend only buying kittens and cats from breeders who treat all of their cats as loving members of their family and who never cage their cats!!! So please consider buying kittens / cats only from breeders who clearly state their cats are Not caged!! You'll both be so much happier and healthier because of it - My recommendation is stay as far away from catteries that cage their cats.

Buyer beware if you're thinking of buying a Siamese or Oriental Shorthair kitten from this breeder/cattery - because when I was considering a purchase of a kitten from the owner Joyce and drove to her home to visit her cattery "Joy's Velvet Paws Cattery" (or Cats of Velvet Paws in Wayne NJ) to see her kittens/cats I was appalled at what I saw because her cattery consists of all cats (roughly between 15-20 kittens & cats) all being caged in an unfinished basement of her home with a cement floor with no nice windows for outside light and view - just wall to wall cages.
