I used Maria Stork for my divorce almost 9 years ago. The divorce was easy, she didn't have to do much...just draw up the papers and file it. My ex didn't have much ambition to fight me on it, as long as I left him his TV and remote control he was probably a happy camper.

Anyway, after the divorce was finalized, my ex claimed bankruptcy with his half of the bills. The amount wasn't very much, but he was lazy and this was an easy way out. When I received the notice from the bankruptcy court I brought it to Maria and asked her what to do with it. She told me that I didn't have to do anything.

Well, she was wrong. I should have went to the hearing and made sure that he had taken my name off of his 1/2 of the bills and made sure that I was not included in this bankruptcy. It ended up screwing my credit up big time, even though I paid my half of the bills. I fought with the credit reporting agencies, even sending them copies of my divorce decree, but they refused to take it off my file. I believe that bankruptcies are taken off your credit report in 10 years, so I've got about another year and a half before this headache goes away.

I probably should have sued her and made her take care of this, but I didn't.

Next time I need legal advice, I'll be sure to get a 2nd opinion. Hindsight says I probably should have gotten a 2nd opinion back then, but I was young and trusting and figured she knew what she was doing. Obviously, she didn't.

PROS:
CONS: Bad advice, not knowledgeable
