I've been going to Fords for a while now.. regarding the service, to be honest, it is a hit or miss.. The people in repair are definitely obnoxious.. one would think they owned the establishment as opposed to being paid employees..
I purchased my wedding bands there.. the diamonds were falling out.. had to take it back three times.. the last time, the owner said he would personally fix it himself, since then the ring has been fine..
Another instance, I wanted to buy the Michelle Deco watch (@ $2500).. my husband was ready to buy it on the spot.. We walked in and two sales people looked at us then walked away.. I dont know if they were prejudging and thought we could not afford it, but a gentleman walked out from the back spotted us and asked if he could help us.. 20 minutes later we had purchased the watch, using a debit.. the young lady's mouth dropped open.. she gave that sale away..
On the whole I think they do need to work on their customer service skils and not prejudge customers... just makes for good customer service!!
I wish I could give these guys no Stars.
My fiance called Fords Jewelers back in April of 2012, to inquire about getting a custom wedding band designed to match her engagement ring (which was NOT purchased at Fords Jewelers). They explained the process, and simply said to come in and they would go over the process with us.
So we show up on a Saturday morning, and were greeted by a woman with extremely bad teeth. We explained what we were looking to do, and she proceeded to ask a number of unnecessary questions.
1. Was this diamond certified?
2. Was it real or Moissanite?
3. Had I ever seen the diamond up close because there was carbon it.
Needless to say, this isn't the experience I expect, I basically was put in a position that made me feel like I purchased a cheap or possibly even fake diamond. My fiance left crying, and I felt like a complete ass.
The diamond was real, and yes I did know about a few pieces of carbon in the ring, but that is common, it's a 1.02 ct round. Not like I was trying to be cheap.
Needless to say this ruined our entire week. Just the sheer thought of someone "professional" questioning the validity of our engagement ring in the manor with which they did, truly made me sick.
I took the ring to another Jeweler (Neves in Woodbridge) just to get their opinion. And they were quick to tell me how nice it was. They also had better service when it came to making a custom wedding band for it. Their onsite Jeweler actually makes the molds and design the custom ring for free. They only charge for the ring itself. They did a lot to ease my stress by doing another appraisal, just to help confirm the quality of the diamond I had purchased.
I would like to respond to your review because obviously you are just a big coward and have a personal grudge against Mr. Berman, which is very hard to believe because I have never met a more accommodating business owner.
Being a "commoner" having shopped in Fords Jewelers I never felt more like a queen by the employees as well as Mr. Berman. Not only does Mr. Berman give back to his employees but he also gives back to the community. If you went to any other establishment for an autograph from a professional hockey player you would have to pay. We did not have to pay because Mr. Berman enjoys seeing his customers happy. He also did his best to make sure young children did not have to stand in the cold and handed out bags of candy for waiting customers. Mr. Berman is a well respect man/business owner. I think it is obvious having been in a business for over 40 years. FORDS JEWELERS is THE PLACE TO GET YOUR JEWELERY!!!
I've been a customer here at Fords Jewlers for 10 years since I moved to New Jersey from Florida. I have never had a problem with any one there. Everyone is really nice and helpful. I've brought in my watch to get the battery changed an it's always fast and efficiently done. I could not be happier with my jewler and would never go anywhere else.
We live in Fords and my husband went to Fords Jewelers, 11/16/2010 to have a battery replaced in a 911 Memorial Watch dedicated to the 11 NY ESU officers who pershed on that day. He was told by a very rude women that it isn't the battery, can't do anything about it, take it somewhere else. Another sales rep asked to explain about the watch, which it did and she went into the back room to explain and he heard nothing but, rude, nasty remarks coming from the back. Never going back. LOST A CUSTOMER!!
Not recommended. Poor service, shoddy craftsmanship.
They refused to bargain even though I was buying two rings. Bought my wife's wedding ring there and two diamonds fell out even before the wedding. They agreed to fix it, but were not happy about it and acted like they were doing us the favor. When we picked it up, more bad work replacing the diamonds (I'll spare you the details), and had to leave it for another week.
Then brought my watch in for a repair, two weeks before they called me with an estimate, then a week later they called me with a revised estimate for triple the original amount. I declined the service, and it took another six weeks to get my watch back (they didn't even call me to let me know if was ready to be picked up, I had to call them).
Go to diamond district in NYC. Better service and a better deal.
I have been a satisified customer for over 30 years and have not found another jeweler that can compare. They have the widest variety of high quality jewelery, and their customer service is impecable. I am not a "well known or prominent" figure, nor "a millionaire", however, I do know quality......fine jewelry and outstanding service......when I see it. 10 years ago I moved down the shore, so I am now a distance from their store. I still make the trip for gifts for special occasions, because I know that I will always find something beautiful, of high quality, and at an excellent price.
I have been a customer of Fords Jewelers for over 25 years now. I have never regretted a single purchase from them. There staff is both helpful and knowledgeable. Their prices are highly competitive, and their service is second to none. I have purchased watches, rings, and collectibles, and they have always treated me like royalty in the process. They get my highest recommendation. It just does not get any better than this.
I have bought our wedding and engagement rings from Fords and been in love with them for almost 10 years. I am looking forward to buying the 10 year soon. If you can not trust Fords, then you might want to examine yourself. Highest quality and even a variety of items for those of us who are not 'well off'.
Went in for a watch and found pickings very slim but I was told the watch I wanted could be brought in. Well to say the least 2 months went by and no call, so I went in to see sales lady who told me If I had purchased the watch sight unseen it would have been in sooner. 2-3 weeks after that I was told that Rado was out of that particular watch but they would call me once available. I am still waiting and that was last year. I went to another jeweler that evening who had no trouble bringing watch in and I bought it on the spot - no problems. Owners of Fords Jewelers must have it nice if they do not have to worry about making sales.
This is the only jeweler I know since my entire family including my grandparents have been coming here for years. The quality is great and selection is wonderful. There is definately something for everyone here. Also they have sales sometimes and you can get items for a good price. I have many pieces from here that I wear often and get complimented on. Pretty much all of my mother jewelry is from here. I highly recommend them.
After reading the review from "Anonoymous" I felt compelled to send a review about Fords Jewelers. I have never been to a jeweler with more integrity then Fords. The reviewer obviously has an ax to grind. Please read all the reviews and make your judgement. And better yet visit them and make your own judgement you will be pleasantly surprised.I also notice that the negative comments are most likely coming from other jewelers
Politicians, public figures, and radio talk show hosts get only the best treatment by "the legendary Barry Berman", but if you're not a VIP, you can get a much better deal elsewhere. What Barry does for the "commoner" is set an astronomical markup on an item, and then take x% off for the customer so that the uninformed feel like they're getting a great deal. It's never very crowded in there, so the unwitting customer feels even more special while they give away their earnings. To be fair, some VIPs (like one young former Mayor turned former NJ Governor and his estranged wife) have received great deals and even FREE GIFTS from the man, who would generously keep the shop open late for his friends, and have his employees work for free (OT is unheard of at Fords'). However, other customers as well as his underpaid staff compensate for his losses making up a fat profit margin for Mr. Berman. On the plus side for the customer, provocative dress and makeup for the young ladies who work there is part of the unwritten dress code, which some shoppers have misinterpreted at times. It's all part of doing business though at Berman's Fords Jewelers.
The purchase of a watch for over $2000 was a horror. The watch didn't work and was finally replaced. The second watch has been in the repair shop for 8 weeks and seems lost in limbo. I suppose it's a good place to buy ear rings but stay away from anything complicated.
PROS: Large selection
CONS: Inept service
Fords Jewelers has the most selection in fine watches. From Timex to Rolex. They also have a large selection of Jewelery, thee finest gold and gems. The staff is very helpful. They also have a wide selection of fine gifts like Lenox and Disney. I highly recommend them.
They are very well known jewelers. I had to get a simple repair for my watch done here. The problem was that the belt was way too big and I needed to get it smaller. They did a fine job decreasing the belt size. They also did it for free because I was also buying some jewelry at that time. I recommend this place to anyone who wants a well known, honest jewelry store.
Quality starts here at Ford's Jewelers. They have a vast selection of diamonds and watches. The staff was not pushy when I was there and that is hard to find when it comes to a Jewelry shop. They are dedicated to making you happy with your purchase and provide a limited warranty in case there are any problems you can just bring the jewelry back into them. I really love my watch and will come back to them.
My husband buys all my jewelry here and they always remember us when we walk in there to buy another piece. Their prices are pretty much exactly where they should be. Plus, I have gone back many times just to get a piece of jewelry cleaned and they are always accommodating. If you're looking for a great piece of jewelry that will last a lifetime at a great price... go to Fords Jewelers.
Very reputable - I've been going there for years. They cater to your needs and treat you like they've known you forever. They will go to all ends to find what you are looking for. My engagment ring came from there and they steered me to a place to where I could get a wedding band custom made because what I wanted they didn't have. They remember you when you come back - they don't forget their customers. Their prices are right where they should be. If you have a problem with a piece you can go there and they'll work with you.
