I purchased an August Forster 190 (6'4") from Fred a few years ago at an incredibly low price. I loved the piano but only two years later, I decided that I really wanted an August Forster 215 (7'2"). Fred took my 190 back and gave me back the full price I paid and credited it toward the new 215. And on top of that, the full price of the 215 was also incredibly low. I have a close friend who bought a beautiful Altenburg grand piano with a disk player system and he is extremely pleased with his piano. It is a responsive and warm sounding piano that I would recommend to anyone looking for a fine piano at a low price. I would recommend Altenburg Piano House to anyone looking to buy a piano or organ. They are professional, courteous, reliable, trustworthy, and offer the most reasonable prices in the Tri-State area. If you don't believe me, just go there and experience it for yourself. You won't be disappointed!

Both Forster and Altenburg supported the warranty, repair, and a fair resolution to the pending issue after third party piano experts reviewed piano and confirmed the lid was not dropped. I love the sound of the Forster piano, particularly the lower register. I am very satisfied with the initial purchase and now with the final resolution to an unusual warranty issue. I am appreciative that we've to come to closure.

I purchased a Johannus Rembrandt 497 SE organ from Altenburg Piano House in March 2009 when the Johannus first announced their stimulus sale. Fred and Gordon were extremely helpful throughout the whole process. They told me about all the options, followed up with me on the status of the order as the organ was being built and shipped, and did a great job on the delivery and installation.

Since I was their first customer (and perhaps one of the first in the US) to take advantage of this sale, there was some confusion on the toe stud options. It turns out that I needed one more installed to support decrementing the new SEQ option. For just the cost of the additional parts, Gordon stopped by and performed the installation (at no additional charge for labor or travel).

I am very pleased with my purchase from Altenburg Piano House. I would not hesitate to recommend them to anyone looking for quality pianos and organs that are backed by excellent customer service and warranty support.

We have a beautiful Altenburg piano in its 3rd generation within my family, and it still sounds great (even when the toddlers play it). The Altenburg's are always a pleasure to speak with, very professional and kind. ** It seems upsetting to see 2 bad reviews in here. Seriously?? The woman that dropped the lid, it cracked because she mishandled her piano. The gentleman with a warranty issue on a NON-Altenburg piano ...seems Altenburg went above & beyond there too. Especially for the gentleman's piano while it was in the care of a 3rd party (sorry, but the customer is NOT right, he is being irrational). ** My Relatives, friends and friends of friends will continue to refer business to Altenburg Piano House as they are top notch. Fred, i wish you and your family many more good years in business, you are all wonderful. See you for the next tuning. Best of Luck

I have recently made a purchase for a Bohemia piano (122A Chippendale model) and want to take a moment to thank Altenburg Piano House for your hospitality, patience, understanding and attention that was given to me and my family.

I will most certainly refer any friends or family that I know that is interested in purchasing a piano or even has questions.

We enjoyed an unheard of level of personal service in our dealings with the Altenburgs. When we purchased our first Hammod organ Mr. Altenburg arrived just behind the truck to make sure the organ was placed exactly as we wished. He gave us a little demo and recommended my first music teacher-a fine musician with a Julliard background who gave me a very sound foundation in music.

We bought our Petrof grand piano from Altenburg Piano House seven years ago and have never been happier with any other household purchase. No service except for two tunings per year were ever needed for our fine instrument and most certainly none of the problems that customers like Mr. G is whining about. I would give Altenburg Piano House a 10 star rating. Thank you Fred Altenburg for making my child's dream possible!

Altenburg Piano, has been a client of Complex Technologies now for a few years now. His customers are lucky to have him on their side. He truly wants what is best for his customers as evidenced directly and indirectly through various conversations. He goes above and beyond all the time. When working with Fred on changes that would affect his customers he showed care, integrity and a true passion for the industry. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend Fred at Altenburg Piano to any of my clients, friends, or family.

To make a long story short for readers
Mr. James Gregori of 40 West 77th Street NYC purchased a Petrof Grand in 2003. The piano developed a cracked board 4 years later so Altenburg moved the instrument to and from Petrof in order to fix the piano while providing a loaner piano at no cost. Fast forward, a year ago Mr. Gregori put the piano on cosignment at another dealer (Beethoven NYC). The piano deleloped another problem while at this dealer. Mr. Gregori told me two months ago over the phone that Altenburg should pay him money for the piano so the other dealer can sell it or he will write a bad review on here (BLACKMAIL). Petrof offered to fix the piano again, Petrof made the piano so the piano has a Petrof warranty. Call me to learn more about Mr. Gregori at Pitney Bowes if interested.

POOR MANAGEMENT!! Fred refused to honor HIS own warranty.
POOR COMMUNICATION!! Fred refuses to communicate to find a fair resolution.
LACK of PROFESSIONALISM!! Fred hangs-up on me.

READ ALL REVIEWS WITH SERVICE ISSUES...Can Fred Altenburg be trusted?

Neighbor, if you still want to go ahead with purchase, make sure you get a DETAILED description of the warranty in writing and ask the question ' is the warranty valid if Altenburg stops to distribute the manufactured piano??'

REMEMBER BUYER BEWARE!!!

August Forster and Altenburg accused customer of damaging piano in order to avoid making good on warranty. Expert reviewed piano and advised Altenburg and August Forster that cracks were NOT caused by customer. Altenburg was to send their own expert, never made arrangements, never followed up, ignored calls.

I have purchased a Otto Altenburg Piano just in the past year and my children and I have enjoyed it very much so.

I have a few friends that also have pianos in their homes and I finally decided it's time for my children to learn.
It was a very nice experience for me and my husband.

Peggy Lockwood in Westfield NJ has owned the Forester piano since 2003 and damaged the piano by dropping the lid. The piano was inspected by the factory represenative from Germany and it is determined the damage is not a direct result of defective material or workmanship.

Poor management and service. Bought August Forster piano, lacquer cracked on finish within warranty period. They would NOT get involved, directed to German manufacturer, who did not make good on warranty. Altenburg owner refused to take calls or get involved to help resolve.

Several years ago I visited the Altenburg Piano House. I was received as an individual and not a potential sale. I was given reliable information and my preferences were respected. I have returned to the Altenburg Piano House and was very pleased to meet Fred Altenburg. As before, my wife and I were given personal attention and treated as people and not merely as buyers. We purchased an excellent Otto Altenburg 5'3 grand piano made for the Altenburgs by the Beijing Piano factory of China. The mahogony veneer finish was beautiful and the mechanism of the piano was outstanding. I was especially impressed with the waty the piano strings were individually set up which is similar to the Somer grand. The Altenburg grands have all of the best attributes of the more expensive brands with the added plus that they are specifically made to meet the Altenburg Piano Companys's high quality standards Before our purchase, we spoke with a friend in Long Island and another in New Jersey who had Altenburg Grand pianos. They both were very happy with their purchase for the following reasons: Quality of the piano and its sound; quality of the cabinet and its beauty; and the very reasonable price for such a quality instrument. I bought my concert grand piano at Altenburg's in Elizabeth, back in the 80's. Shortly after finishing my Music Studies at Montclair State and Columbia U. I moved back to Portugal, my home Country. The piano, of course, came along. A few months later, in Portugal, the damper pedal was so abused by another pianist that it broke. I called Altenburg in Elizabeth and reported the problem. They immediately offered to ship a new pedal to which I replied that I should be visiting the States in a couple of months and I would then collect the pedal myself. The truth is that I only went back to USA three years later. Upon my arrival I called the store and surely they said the pedal was there, waiting for me. When I got there to pick it up and ask for the bill, Mr. Altenburg himself replied: "Did you think that I was going to charge a pedal to someone that travelled 7000 miles and crossed an ocean to get a broken part of a piano that my father built?" And so I came back to Europe with the pedal on my luggage (I admit that I had some explaining to do at customs, but that wasn't that hard). Amazing, isn't it? Thank you Altenburg for years and years of pleasurable piano playing. (Submitted by Joo Balula Cid, Lisbon, Portugal)

I do NOT recommend this place to buy a piano. I bought my first piano here and had to return it. They showed me a piano on the floor and said they would ship me a brand new one from the warehouse. When it arrived it came with a different bench. This was my first clue. The bench did not even match the piano. Long story short, they shipped me the one from the floor in the store and scrambled around to find a bench thinking that I was too stupid to pick up on this. Naturally, I returned it for a full refund but not before much aggravation - they tried to convince me to keep the used piano with scratches on it and a non-matching bench. Very unprofessional people - unacceptable service. There are too many places to buy pianos. Do yourself a favor and do not shop here!!!

They have gorgeous pianos made of nice wood that's smoothed, buffed, and nicely-finished. The keys don't stick, and are smooth and nice to play on. The extra incentives they throw in to sweeten the deal are nice when considering competetors - a free bench and free shipping really impressed me, without making it a "hidden" price in the piano. The pianos are finely crafted and durable, and if you've been taking lessons or are considering learning, you should stop by and check out their selection.

This is the place to go if you are looking for any type of piano. If they don't have it I don't know where you will find it. They are conveniently located in New Jersey, 5 minutes from Staten Island, Ny. I have been pleased with the service after my purchase.I would definitely recommend.
