Mediocre? Mediocre my *beep*!!! Both the food AND service is Very Good! I've been staying at the Bay Harbour Motor Lodge, a quarter mile south of the Forked River Diner for a couple of weeks, now, and I stop in for breakfast a couple of times a week. As a matter of fact, I stopped in for breakfast just this very morning: Blueberry pancakes, fried eggs and a bottomless cup of black coffee. I sat at the counter with my copy of The New York Post. It was sublime! The service was young, but very friendly, very professional and very efficient!!
At one point during my stay, every table in the diner was full and there were people waiting in line for the next available table. I noticed from the menu that they serve meatloaf for lunch (I know, WHAT diner DOESN'T serve meatloaf, right? Meatloaf is a diner staple). I just might decide to return, today, for some take-out meatloaf!! Hey, the way the Big Chain restaurants are moving in, diners are a dying breed. Believe me, when the Last Diner closes its doors, it's REALLY going to be missed. I'm 61 years old and if I've learned one thing from life it's THIS: You don't miss something, until you don't have it, anymore!! See 'ya at the diner, I'll buy you a cup of coffee!!!

The Forked River Diner is one of those places that has been there forever, even though their food and service is mediocre at best, they're the cheapest place in town and they're open from early morning to very late night, so it's a major convenience. If you go, just order breakfast whatever time you go....you can't go wrong with eggs.
