Chef Ramsay would roll his eyes and start swearing upon tasting the food at Buco. But he may appreciate the service.

The two stars are for a combination of reasons. While the service is excellent, and was excellent when I went about twice a few years ago, the quality of the food has completely tanked. When I went a few years ago, I had an excellent osso bucco with risoto milanese (could even see saffron threads!). The rice was al dente and, as it should be, suspended in a lovely medium that makes it a risotto. The marrow of the bone was garnished with a rosemary spring with the gremolata. Great flavor and I even recall the dish itself being very fragrant. I thought I had found a gem right on Allwood Road. THIS TIME, however, (Sept 6, 08), the dishes I had were a complete mess. Ramsay would have a field day as Buco seems to fit the bill for one of his restaurant-gone-wrong-episodes. I had a scallop dish that had a risotto. The risotto was just sad. It didn't even seem to be made with the appropriate rice. It was so loose and with a sort of translucent sauce that I would not have been surprised if cornstarch was tossed in to ensure some thickness. *gasp!* I am guessing that this is not the original chef I had of my previous meals. The menu was seasonal then and now is merely a list trying to appease and impress but in reality require no unique or particularly seasonal ingredients. While my scallops were not tough, they were not fresh. There were a few barely fresh or simply overcooked asparagus tossed into the mix, but the dish itself was not well balanced. All of this was grossly overpriced. I would have been happy to pay for what I had during earlier visits to Buco, but I was very disappointed with this recent experience (and it was a very special night! GRRR!)

I had called the day before to make a reservation and it was not on the books when we arrived.

Very disappointing.

Cons: food has really gone downhill, very overpriced

I've been to Buco multiple times for regular dinner, easter holiday and the early bird special. The service is always good, food always delicious, and martini's are perfect!! Staff is always friendly and prices are reasonable.

Pros: Food quality and menu diversity

Cons: Sitting next to the front door in winter

.

Great atmosphere and some of the best Italian food in the area. I've never had a bad meal here. Very attentive service. A little pricey, but worth it.
