Spent 30 Years in Music. I must have eaten in every diner in NJ. This took place between 1957 & 1987. Recently I have had a great experience at the Saddle Brook Diner in regards to quality of food, service and yes, this diner has ambience. From the nostagic music to the outside patio.
I have been back at least 20 times and everything is consisent. I have dined at some of the finest restaurants in NY & NJ, and for me to write a review about a Diner, you know it is an excellent place for food & service.

I remember when the Saddle Brook Diner reopened after they redesigned it. Before they redesigned I recall something about poor health inspections. After they reopened I said, "what the hell, ill give it a try." I remember the manager being so gracious that he was attracting new costumers into his new establishment. The food was crisp and great! I went there after a few months after being opened and the attitude and food changed. The service was EXTREMELY horrible. When we put our food order in the server seemed like we gave her a huge puzzle to solve. She came back with our food all messed up. The sweet potato fries which used to be crisp were soggy and the turkey wrap tasted old. When we told the manager that the server messed up he proceeded to INSULT one of the girls in our party. I dont understand how as a owner of an establishment can insult a customers character without checking with your wait staff that clearly is an idiot. ITS FOOD! HE INSULTED A PERSONS CHARACTER!!! One of the many comments the manager stated "The door will always swing open.... You need to learn how to order food." Well, with poor waitering staff, old food and a cranky old owner who seems to display that the english language is a serious challenge, its not worth waisting your money people. The Saddle Brook Diner may have new paint and a new menu but they are still stuck in the stone age. Economy is bad I highly suggest to save your money and go somewhere else.

The previous post is not accurate. This is a very good diner, with great 'diner' food.

You don't go to a diner in New Jersey and order ravioli, then complain about how lousy it is. Of course it's going to be lousy!!

Stick to diner food, and you will be very satisfied.

The diner looks nice but the food and service was terrible. My waiter barely spoke english. I had 1 ravioli out of 5 and they charged me $6 for it becuase i returned the food.

I must say that I was very impressed with my first visit to Saddle Brook Diner with my fiance. It has the old 50s vibe (Gotta love the Betty Boop memorabilia) in a modern setting. The menu layout always makes me think of Jack Rabbit Slim's from Pulp Fiction, minus the car booths and dancing.

The wait staff is always friendly. They always come to you as soon as you are seated, even on their busiest days. They give great recommendations - so don't fear trying anything new. If the staff thinks it's great, then it most likely is.

As an appetizer, try the potato skins. They're topped with broccoll, bacon and chssse with a nice dollop of sour cream on the side. They have HUGE dinner salads that you'll end up taking home, because it's just so big. The burgers are juicy and flavorful. Even a simple chicken salad on rye is something to rave home about.

I wish I lived closer, but since my in-laws live near by, we always seem to go there each time we visit.

PROS: Friendly staff, great food - TRY THE SUGAR FREE CHEESECAKE TOO!
CONS: Not in NY, Parking is limited when there are parties at the VFW Hall

Recently redone and looks great. Nice people, decent service. Food is always good... not outstanding but good. Great place for a quick bite. Only time I ever had to wait for a seat was on a Sunday at lunch time... and that wasn't a long wait. Worth it.

PROS: nice people, decent prices
CONS: the food is just good.
