New Light pastor seeks new Bloomfield community center

Bloomfield Life

The Rev. Vernon C. Miller has taken the first step toward realizing his dream of establishing a community center in Bloomfield. Pastor Miller has formed the New Light Community Development Corporation (NLCDC), a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization, to further his intention of erecting a building adjacent to New Light Baptist Church on Dewey Street.

The mission of the NLCDC is to strengthen and empower the lives of individuals and families in Bloomfield and surrounding areas through education, economic investment, recreational activities, social services and health care by addressing the communitys spiritual, social and human needs.

Pastor Miller plans to share his vision for ""A Greater Bloomfield"" with the community on Friday, June 3 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. during a reception at New Light Baptist Church.

Monies raised from this inaugural gala will be used to fund the centers first-year initiatives: a community day, school supply give-away, health screenings and youth recreational activities.

""I see this as a great opportunity to start a meaningful dialogue between residents and leaders in the community, which will enable us to initiate programs to address the specific needs in our community,"" said Bloomfield Councilman Bernard Hamilton, an NLCDC board member.

The reception is open to the general public. Tickets are $25. New Light Baptist Church is located at 89 Dewey St., Bloomfield. For tickets or additional information, contact The Rev. Vernon C. Miller or Nicole Williams at 973-338-5888.

Dont make the mistake and attend this church.\r
\r
The Pastor is inept, his word is powerless and his grasp of sound biblical preaching is definitely lacking. \r
\r
The location of the church is good and convenient to travel to as its right off of the GSP. In addition, the amenities are solid. \r
\r
If you are a fan of dry church with no power or inspiration then this is the place for you. But if you are looking for a fresh word from an anointed preacher....ITS NOT HERE!\r

Pros: The music was pretty good.

Cons: The Pastor is awful, the service is dry & boring.

I like the welcoming feeling of the people and that it is directly off of the Garden State Parkway exit for Watchung Ave towards Bloomfield. It is on a cul-de-sac with playground, tennis and basket court at the end for 3 on 3 tourneys. It is perfect for weddings, with a beautiful park like setting and indoors hall for group meetings. I feel God's spirit everytime I go!

Pros: Tucked into a cul-de-sac with park, tennis courts at the end

Cons: Not to big where you get ""lost in the sauce""!

The growing congregation is warm and personal and believes in the power of prayer. The new Pastor Rev. Vernon C. Miller, has an inspiring vision for the church and is a powerful preacher. The choir has several tremendous singers and brings forth divine mesages in song. Come and Share.\r

Praise God!
