DISGUSTING PLACE! Please, if you love animals, don't buy anything from there or support their operations. I bought a 3 month chocolate lab on Saturday, 8/11, and from day 1 something seemed wrong with him. He wasn't active, was barely eating, sleeping all the time, etc. By Friday, 8/17, when I got home from work, the pup's nose was completely dry, he had very labored breathing, and a lot of discharge from his eyes. I called the animal hospital that Animals and Things recommended that we use (an excellent place by the way - would total recommend them to anyone with animals) and they told me to bring him in right away. The doctor examined him and told me he had an upper respiratory tract infection, congestion in one lung, pneumonia beginning to form in the other lung, and an ear and eye infection causing the discharge. The doctor was going to give me antibiotic pills and ear drops that I was to use for 2 weeks. He also told me that since it was only 6 days from the date of purchase I was within my right to return my dog as the pup was considered "unfit for sale." The doctor even filled out an "Unfit for Sale" form and gave it to me along with a breakdown of the office visit. I have 2 young children at home so I decided, against my will, to return the pup since my children are my priority. When I went back to the store and spoke with the store manager, she tried several times to convince me that there was nothing wrong with the dog...with all due respect, I'll believe the doctor, who went to school for this, and not you. Finally, when she realized I was insistent about returning him, she shrugs her shoulder and says "anyway, you're within your 2 weeks so you can do whatever you want with the dog but returning him because you're scared he's going to get your 2 kids sick isn't a reasonable excuse." I looked at her and said "Excuse me?! Don't you dare insult my intelligence! Don't tell me that i didn't want this pup from the beginning - if I didn't want him, I wouldn't have purchased him from the beginning. That's just inhumane!" She then proceeded to remove the collar from the dog and gave him to another store associate and told him to put the pup back into the cages for resale. I was shocked - I gave you paperwork from a medical doctor that says the dog is sick and you put him back in the cages, with the rest of the dogs, back for resale?! Am I missing something?? Anyway, she proceeded to completed the return in their system and documented the reason of the return as us not wanting him. Not looking to start an issue in the store, I calmly signed whatever she needed me to sign and looked at her and said "I'm not going to start anything with you, but to document that we did not want this puppy is just morally wrong, even after I explained everything to you and gave you all the documentation." I then gathered my belongings and walked out. As she was processing the return for me, 2 customers asked her if it was possible for them to see a dog. She kept saying that if they had any questions they should ask her but she wasn't going to take the dog out of the cage because that distresses them and they don't want to go back into their cages. How do you expect a customer to make a decision about purchasing a puppy when they can't even touch it?? I just have so many issues with this store. It's unfortunate I didn't do my research and read other reviews prior to purchasing the dog. Stay away from this place if you can. Don't even buy your supplies from there.

I purchased a puppy from Animals and Things which was a huge mistake. Two days after I bought my Morkie she was diagnosed with two serious illness, Kennel cough and the parasite Gardia. Both these diseases are highly contangious which most likely all of the puppied that are in that store are infected. After much research and contacting m states ASPCA i found out that they receive there puppies from Labriar Kennels who receives there puppies from a known puppy mill. All I can say is please do not make the same mistake I did and purchase a puppy from this store or any pet store. ADOPT, or you will end up with countless vet bills like me. Also, if you purchased a sick pup form Animal and Things or a store that receives there pups from Lambriar Kennels I would love to hear from you. My email is kriis23@aol,com

Do not buy any animal from this disgusting place! My friend bought a dog for his son for Christmas here. It is a 12 week old Dachshund that he picked up this past Saturday. However, he ending up bringing the dog to his vet yesterday only to find out this dog had an upper respiratory infection, high fever and on the road to pneumonia. The vet stated what the dog has could not have contracted this sickness in the past few days but this has been going on for a while. The vet stated this and all of the other dogs in contact or near each this dog needs to be treated since this type of illness in animals is highly contagious. The dog was returned and money refunded, however, will they even take care of this dog now since they had the audacity to even sell a sick dog? Stay away and save yourself a headache!

This dump should have been shut down years ago by the Department of Health. It's so dirty in there that I have to clean my hands several times before I can touch anything else. The animals are from mills and not taken care of. The employees are rude and couldn't be bothered to actually do their job. Some were wearing, I kid you not, their Pj's! Another had her pants down so low I could see parts of her that I didn't need to see. It's a shame because they do have a large stock of higher end dog food and such. What a waste of space. Avoid at all costs.

Animals n Things puppies come from puppy mills!!! Please, do not buy a puppy from them! If you are tempted, first go to youtube.com and search for "puppy mills". That will give you some idea on where their puppies come from. Besides, the store employees neglect the puppies. My friend bought a 6 month old puppy there and the puppy was underweight, scared of people and had a bad case of eye infection (she leared about the puppy mills too late, unfortunately). If you want a dog, please go to the Edison shelter (google the address). You can walk our with a great dog or cat and save a life (adoption fee is $50).

I bought a rabbit there and it died in 5 days. I wanted my money back for everything I purchased and they said no. On top of that I had to pay for the vet for an animal that was unfit to be sold. I would not recommend this place to my worst enemy.........By the way this is not the first time that I have had a problem with this store.

I recently went to Animals & Things to buy a cat carrier. I found the one I wanted and it was in a stack above a tag maked $25.99. When she proceeded to ring up the carrier it came up 49.99. I told her it was above the tag marked 25.99 she sent someone to check on this. The associate came back saying they have smaller carrier for the 25.99. I informed her these were placed with the tag marked 25.99. She said too bad. The store is filthy and smells terrible. They have very small dogs in cages where their little legs fall right through the openings making it very hard for them to walk around the cages.

As a fish afficiaonado, I travel to many pet stores in NJ. Animals and Things is a very large pet store with good and bad points. They carry a wide variety of supplies which are well-priced. However, their livestock is below-par. The fish are often ill and in dirty war. The puppies are from puppy mills and over-priced. The kittens are pure-bred and listed at $500-800. There are plenty of adorable kittens at local shelters who need homes more!

They have absolutely everything you could ever image here for your pets. Its a pretty big place. the largest pet store I have ever seen. They have a lot of animals there but quite often they look dirty. It ooks like they may be understaffed also. If there is something you are looking for a can not find you are likely to find it here.

The owner, Gordon McKay, sold my family a kitten with Feline Leukemia. The kitten was in a cage with other kittens and the cage was located next to other cages with more kittens ... all the cages were open ... LEUKEMIA IS SPREAD THROUGH SALIVA. He has done NOTHING with the other kittens. They are STILL AVAILABLE for sale!

HE WAS RUDE, ARROGANT AND INSENSITIVE! I WILL NEVER SHOP THERE AGAIN FOR ANIMALS OR SUPPLIES!

PROS: NONE!!!
CONS: TOO MANY TO LIST!!!

Upon arrival at Animals and Things there were two things i noticed, one being the smell, two being the listless sickly animals.
The puppies in particular were very sad/mopey/sick looking.
Having worked in a veterinarian these puppies, and all of the other animals for that purpose looked as if they needed medical attention. They were very overpriced, and not very concerned with the well being of these animals. The "small animals" were in crowded dirty cages, with empty waterbottles, and overturned food bowls.
I wish someone would step in and help these innocent creatures.

This pet store is centrally located and has ample parking. The staff seemed friendly though it took a bit to get someones attention. They had a fair selection of supplies. I wouldnt go out of my way to come here unless to pick up a quick item. They laso have small animals as well.

This place is pretty good if you are just going for some dog food, or a toy for your pet. However, I would never actually buy a pet there. The animals always seem unhappy, they don't look healthy, and the cages smell like they haven not been cleaned in a while.

Whenever I need something for my fish tank or my dogs I come here. They have a very wide selection, great prices, and quality merchandise. They also have workers who know about their business, more than once I've called them with questions on equipment or suggestions and they are always willing to take the time to help.
