Old Man Rafferty's is usually packed. The food is pretty good and so is the service, but the main reason why the place is so full is that it is right on the Rutgers University campus. If you're looking for a nice leisurely meal, Old Man Rafferty's is not where you will find it, the customers are loud and the wait for a table can be pretty long.

Old Man Rafferty is a great place! It is located in New Brunswick. Though it is right near the college scene of Rutgers, it is a good restaurant for friends or even family! While the food can be a bit pricy, it is very good quality and great service!

Old Man Rafferty's is a great restaurant and its very clean. The surrounding area is very nice. The Old Man Nachos were my favorite part of the meal. The portions are very large and very delicious. There is also something for everyone, burgers, pasta, etc. You must try this restaurant!!

I went to Old Man Rafferty once and had to visit again. The menu starts with the desserts...pages and pages of them. There are so many options to choose from...ranging from sandwiches to salads and entrees. I had the french dip which was very good. For dessert I had the Vesuvius cake which was amazing...chocolate ganache, cheesecake, chocolate cake, and chocolate mousse. Get dessert!

This is a nice little place located right in the heart of new brunswick with both indoor and outdoor dinig. The food is excellent and the service is great. I high recomend the shrimp and vegeatable entree. The sauce on it is delicious. It is also a nice place to have a small party. The do not have parking but that is consistent with the whole area.

The desserts at Old Man Raffertys are the best part of the meal experience, although their dinners and sandwiches are delicious as well. One of my favorite restaurants in the New Brunswick area.

I was surprised to see such a gourmet brunch offered. They had everything from custom omelettes to crab legs. And their dessert was especially delectable. Their brunch prices were very affordable considering the type of food offered.

What I like about this place is it has the feel of a TGI Fridays without the corporate influence. Its it right in the heart of New Brunswick so its great for both business people and college students. They have a bakery on the premises so the desserts are very good. I also like their pasta dishes as well.

The desserts are the main attraction of this restaurant. The food is good, but nothing spectacular. The desserts however are wonderful. They have an interesting array of choices for dessert, all of which are made at the restaurant itself. Make sure you save enough room. You'll regret missing dessert.

As one reviewer said before, GET DESSERT FIRST! Their cheesecakes, cakes, brownies, cookies are sinful (as well as fattening). I ate at Rafferty's once just for the food. Food is average and can be found at any deli. However, their dessert selection is incredible. Save your money for their incredibly delicious desserts.

PROS: Excellent dessert selection
CONS: Food so-so

That's what they tell you because the dessert is to die for! They are made on premisis and are so delicious. There is a lot to choose from for lunch, dinner, appetizers and of course desserts. There's something for everyone! Prices are reasonable. Food is high quality and fresh. Staff are nice and friendly. Parking can be hard in that area and there is usually a long wait on the weekends and they don't take reservations. If the weather is nice you can hang out outside, otherwise it's a tight squeeze to wait inside!

Nice place to go for a good meal at a reasonable price. My salad and the bread was good. My steak not so hot, but my wife had the ribs and they were flavorful and they gave a nice serving.

visited there right after graduation close by, got there ahead of the crowd so had a nice outdoor seat, waiter was young and didn't know much but was pleasant and tried to be attentive, too many tables per server. Wine list was good but not great but had several bottles priced below $40 so good value for the budget concious. Appetizer was delicious and filling, we were hungry after skipping lunch. Wine by the glass was tiny servings so I would opt for a bottle or stick to beer. Entrees were timely and well prepared and delicious, the alfredo sauce was not very rich but the chicken and pasta were well done, the chicken parmesan was very tasty and filling, this would be a good meal for 2 to share if average hunger, the steak was ok, choice cut nicely cooked, served with onion crisps, good for this price. This is a good bridge restaurant between nice sit down and pub food, they do both pretty well, although the pub food looked great as it went by.

Pros: nice courtyard outdoor seating, good food

Cons: understaffed for a known busy time

I went to Rutgers in New Brunswick for 4 years and Rafferty's Brunch was my favorite Sunday ritual.

There were always so many different options from a carving station, tradititional breakfast foods, italian antipasto, cold seafood, king crab legs, desserts and unlimited drink selections that come all you can eat/drink for under $20.

Great value, great food and relaxed atmoshphere with really neat decor.

I recently went back to Rafferty's for Sunday brunch after having graduated from Rutgers 2 years ago. I'd been craving their selection. I must say, I was less than impressed. They still had the same great selection, but the food quality had gone down significantly.

I guess it's the recession, everyone is cutting costs wherever they can. It was quite obvious that they'd been using much lower grade foods. While I'm not planning on going back anytime soon, I'll be the first in line to go back once they switch back to the high quality, gourmet foods Rafferty's is known for.

I attended a lunch party here and was violently ill afterwards. 4 out of 5 other people I knew who attended the same party had the same exact illness. None of us were able to go to work, all sick as dogs. I will leave it at that to avoid being graphic. Dine at your own risk.

In town for training, Old Man Rafferty's was recommended to me by a fellow trainee. It was a short walk from my hotel (Hyatt), and since it was only me, and it was a Monday, I was seated promptly. The menu was interesting because the desserts were listed first (and I would have had one if I wasn't so stuffed!) Even though I was seated in the very full bar area, the waiter was very attentive, and checked on me often. I ordered the calamari, and three cheese ravioli. The serving size of calamari was more than generous, and the dipping sauces were extremely good. The ravioli was some of the best I've ever had. I saw many different people there, from a group that had just gotten off work, a college group having a birthday dinner, and a family with elementary-age children. The decor was sharp and the lighting intimate, but the restaurant is a bit loud if you're looking for a romantic place, mostly because it's so popular.

This is the type of place where you can go casual with some friends, bring the kids, or dress up and make it a special dinner for two. The food is so well-prepared that you couldn't go wrong with any dish. Great wines and drinks as well. I recommend: Appetizer - Tomato-Basil Soup, Salad - Grilled Steak Salad, Steak - Hanger Steak, Dessert - Any ^_^

OMR is my favorite restuarant -- hands down! The location is great, the food is incredible, and the desserts are awesome!

Even if you are not a "dessert person" you have to save room for dessert at OMR! They are not to be missed! They are made in house, and the selection changes every day.

i always get the smothered steak sandwhich which is a slice of prime rib with sauteed mushrooms and onions with cheese. Its soooo good. i like it medium rare and they always cook it perfectly.
their cheesecakes are also yummy.

if you parked in the parking lot nearby, they validate parking for 1 hour. dinner will usually take longer than this but one extra hour of parking is only $1.25 anyways so its not too bad. parking in the parking lot is a lot easier than finding parking on the street and the lots are not far away.

it sometimes gets very crowded but they have expanded and the wait is not as bad as it used to be.

Old Man Raffertery's is a favorite amongst locals in New Brunswick. It's quite popular with the J&J crowd as well as the Rutgers students and staff. The food is classic American fare with a little pizzaz. If you're in the mood for burgers, chicken wings, a club sandwitch or a good crock of french onion soup this is the place. If it's a working lunch your best bet is to bring your boss with you so you don't get in trouble for being out of the office for 2 hours. They don't take reservations and the kitchen can get backlogged on weekday lunches (it's also packed on weekend nights.) Overall it's a nice place with good food and a convenient location to meet up with friends or coworkers.

This is one my favorite places to eat. The atmosphere is relaxed and inviting, and the food is top notch. The specials menu offers up some great new items and is changed very often. The desserts are not to be missed.
