My boyfriend and I went to this diner/restaurant for an early morning breakfast. We wanted to sit by the windows but were told no by a grumpy old man who said it was too late. So we sat at a booth near the counter. A man who looked homeless and smelled really bad was sitting at the counter. We ordered eggs, toast, and pancakes. As we're waiting for what must have been 45 minutes to an hour, the homeless man at the counter turns to us and says he wants coffee, but doesn't have any more money. We really didn't have much left over (we had a rare night out) but my boyfriend gave him a dollar. When he saw it was a dollar bill he got angry and said that it wasn't enough. The waitress came by a few times to tell us the order is being prepared. Then a man comes out with a mop and yellow bucket filled with steaming hot water. He begins mopping the floor by our feet and we can feel the heat of the water rising. Suddenly there is a smell like vomit and we ask the waitress why it smells so bad and she says that is the cleaner used on the floor. We finally get the food but the eggs were underdone. We wanted to send them back, but it took long enough to get them and we didn't want to wait anymore, so we just left them. The smell was starting to bother us, so we quickly ate the hard toast and pancakes. The order came to almost $16. We both didn't like the slow service, being bothered by the homeless man, the vomit smell, or the undercooked eggs. The next time we are out, if we want to eat, we will go elsewhere.

The decor here is very 70's styled with mirrors and salmon color schemes. The service has been slow also every time I've gone there but the food I've tried has been consistently good. It's on a busy street with a very steep parking lot, so be careful driving.

I've stopped here several times on my way back from Hackensack Hospital and the food is always very good. The service is a little bit on the slow side because they do get pretty busy.

Pretty good. The food was good, with bigger portions. The staff can be a little slow. The prices are OK. It is convenient at a corner location, but on a busy street.

It's been a little while since I've been here, but if you are in the Hackensack area, are hungry and don't want to spend a fortune, then stop at the Arena Diner. It's your typical diner with typical diner food.
