I started going to FAC in 1996. I stopped attending in 2007 after the church lost a couple of key ministers. Marty is the senior pastor and an outstanding preacher. But even before I stopped attending, he preached very little. It seems to a sharp observer that he is more involved in meeting the more affluent members for church growth than preaching, and that is a shame because despite how this review sound I like Marty a lot.He did help me get through some difficult times. But I think there is an apiration to turn this church
into a mega-church which will be a bad thing. Yes, they will be able to get all the congregation under one roof, but the personal relationships will be gone. And a status symbol will begin. I know this is a negative review and despite it, I will always love this church and the ministers that have been able to bring sinners to Christ(no one comes comes to the Father but thru Me), but please be careful about getting too big(Chrystal Cathedral). I now belong to a small church, if I return to NJ to visit my daughter, I'll pass by FAC but I won't stop.

This church is HUGE, which makes it very difficult to find your "place."
I signed up to help the nursery, and no one ever contacted me.
I did get involved with a mini church, where everyone was asked to share their concerns. When I shared mine , the wife of the group leader aired my hurts and concerns freely with her friends within the congregation. I guess she didn't know we have some of the same friends. Apparently, the church isn't very careful with those they place in leadership positions. The senior pastor doesn't
speak every Sunday, only occasionally. They are now trying to turn the church into a "mega church," complete with a coffee shop and athletic facilities to try to draw in new members. The size of the church, the senior pastor's lack of involvement and the wife of the mini church leader, are all reasons we left.

I'm in my 50's and my family started coming to this church about 6 years ago. All of our lives have changed dramatically since we began coming to FAC. I personally had several bad experiences with churches and my faith was not healthy nor was that of my family. We are now living for the Lord and have a new life. We are surrounded by the most awesome church family. In the bible, and this church is definitely based on biblical teaching, fellowship in the church family is all important and this church gets it! I'm not an outgoing person but I forced myself to get involved and now we all have made wonderful, close, Godly friends. I would definitely recommend giving it a good try before letting anything deter you. A serious try would be to at least attend for a few months and get involved! God bless.

I feel so @ home and welcomed @ this church. My life has change forever and I'm ever so grateful to FAC. My relationship with the Lord is growing, I feel closer and stronger about doing the Lord's work. If you want to raise your children in a church where there is a lot going on for our youth, then this is the place to be.

I have been coming to FAC for a long while now. I'd like to address the previous comments about the necessity to get involved.

It is exceedingly EASY to be involved in this Church because there are just SO many programs and/or events to attend! It's amazing how many things you can get involved with. There's the choir (which is awesome, I don't know why "Mr Mergel" is so bitter about them), ALPHA which is a beginning Christianity course with free dinner and small group time, a Single Mom's group which really helped me feel like I wasn't alone afterall, Bible studies, Minii-Churches, stuff for the kids to do (while you are at your grown-up mini church), Sound/Video, etc etc etc etc etc... the list goes on and on and on!!

People at this Church genuinely CARE about you. After many of the sermons, there are pastors at the front of the Church who will pray with you and pray for you, whatever it is that is on your heart. They certainly do not leave you in the dark or out in the cold.

Go for a few weeks, introduce yourself to some folks, maybe visit some sort of organized group... but even if you don't, I can tell you from my own personal experience that people WILL get to know you, and they DO care, and they WILL notice when you're not there and will check up on you!!

We love this church! We love just about everything about it. It's true that the songs are not traditional hymns, but they are in no way devoid of a good message. I really have no idea where the previous poster's ranting came from about the choir. The choir is made up of people in the congregation who are sharing their love of God in a musical way. Anyone can join. If you love to sing, then join. No one claimed to be broadway-caliber talent. If you're worshipping for the RIGHT reasons, then who cares when the soloists sound like (they're not bad at all, by the way)?! They're singing for the glory of God, not for the glory of "you". But I will say that the choir is joyful and a pleasure to listen to. They really are quite talented!

The only area for improvement in this church, in my opinion (and I'm sure others may disagree), is the child care. I have found that those who work with the littlest ones tend to be a little impatient with separation anxiety and sometimes can come off a tad bit rude. But for every not-so-great nursery helper there are 5 good helpers! Just irks me that I don't want to bring my son to the nursery. We take him to the Family Room instead, where we can see and hear the sermon through video.

They key to this church is to GET INVOLVED! We started coming here because we took the ALPHA course here a long while back and have never left. We will raise our children in this church.

This church is very large (3 services on Sunday and 1 on Saturday evening). Not easy to get to know people or for them to get to know you (unless perhaps you're in a mini-church with a few of them). No one would even realize you weren't there! Probably in a few years, your face might become familiar to them. The "music" is predominantly band of guitars, drums, etc. The young men banging away on drums and guitars are the "headliners" here. With the exception of ONE soprano who hardly sings as soloist, the rest are mediocre. No way would they pass auditions for any New York cathedral choir, etc. While the choir sometimes will try a sacred piece, none of the soloists have true SOLOIST voices. They put on southern drawls (surprising for New Jersey residents!) and the loud band is basically what you'll hear. The choruses are devoid of true melody, not beautiful at all and certainly not conducive to prayer or peace or comfort. The music (rhythem and beat and loudness) you might hear in a bar or disco or nightclub. Not church. So what we do is concentrate on the lyrics which are on screens for congregation to see. That's the only thing you can do. The pastors, however, are all excellent. It's a Bible-based sermon you'll hear....wonderful. Maybe, then, the smartest thing to do would be: Go to the services late, miss the bar-room type music and disco beats and don't miss the inspiring sermons!

This church is HUGE! It is in the process of growing even more, which is a major turn off for us. It's already too large to get to know anyone. In the past few years, they have lost some of their key pastors, and the senior pastor rarely preaches. Unfortunately, this church didn't work for us.

On a positive note, there are many areas of involvement and opportunities for spiritual growth here. The music ministry is great.
The senior pastor is very charismatic, however, he not in the pulpit on a regular basis. I do believe that this is hurting the church.

FAC may be large, but this church is blessed by God. To fully appreciate this church, you definitely need to join some type of group. These group members will become your church family. FAC has great support groups, Bible studies, children's programs and groups for all types of people. The growth of this church is due to a lot of prayer from the congregation and staff. If you want to feel God working, this is the church for you!

This church can go either way. It all depends on what you're looking for. It's a huge church with a huge congregation. They're in the process of trying to turn it into a shopping mall, complete with cafe', book store, recreation facility, etc. Those things don't exactly have much to do with growing your faith and worshiping God. There are lots of groups to join and ways for you to contribute your services. This church obviously works for many people, as all the services are crammed. It didn't work particularly well for us. They do have great music. I don't think you could find any better Christian music without it being on a CD.
