I just had the worst experience of my life at this place.

I went in to get my hair colored, I had a picture was was very specific about the style. The stylist said it would be no problem and actually referred to the picture a couple of times as she was applying the color. When it was done, I wasn't happy, it looked nothing like the picture and the color was too brassy. I told the stylist that it wasn't what I wanted and she AGREED. I told her I will have to come back and adjust the color; she said it would be fine. I went back a couple of days later and decided I was going to ask for my money back because I didn't feel comfortable getting my hair done there anymore and wanted to get it fixed elsewhere.

I began speaking to the owner and from the beginning she was very dismissive. I told her I wasn't happy and showed her the picture that I wanted but she said she didn't know what I told the stylist so she couldn't help me. I said ok I'll come back when she's here but I don't trust anyone to do my hair here, I just want my money back. She was adamant that she wouldn't give me my money back because the stylist worked on my hair for three hours and they don't do refunds. Even though there is no policy anywhere that says no refunds. I tried to explain to her again, that the stylist knew I wasn't happy with it and that I just wanted to get it done elsewhere. She was again dismissive, and didn't really offer me another solution other than a glaze, which I didn't want because it will just wash out and I will have the same problem in a few weeks. Even though I told her how unhappy I was she moved on from dismissive to rude and said "LISTEN, we don't do refunds". She put her hands up in a dismissive way and raised her voice. At that point, I got annoyed and decided to leave. I told her she was not accommodating and that giving me the hand was not really professional. She followed me outside and told me to never come back because I had started a fight. I was like "REALLY? Because you are the one that chased me after I left, so who's starting a fight?" She was such a bully and I refused to let her intimate me so I told her I would be back to talk to the stylist.

The next day, I went back and calmly spoke to the stylist who AGREED that it was not what I wanted. She offered to fix it but I told her I wasn't comfortable with anyone there touching my hair anymore especially after the interaction with the owner the day before and just wanted my money back. The stylist said she understood but it was out of her hands to get a refund. I told her I didn't want the full refund just what I paid for the color. I asked her to go talk to the owner together but she didn't want to so I decided to talk to her again. Again, she was dismissive. She just talked over me and dismissed everything. I told her she was a bully and she was only trying to intimate me. She said it was her place of business and when I tried to say that I was a paying customer, she said that I wasn't a customer of theirs because I had only been there once. She also insinuated I get my hair down at a ghetto salon (really?). She then tried to intimate me some more by asking the stylist if she wanted her to take money out of her pay to give me my money back. THEN she asked for my information, because she was going to inquire with her lawyer to see if she owed me money. This was the boiling point for me. She clearly thought I was stupid. Inquiring with a lawyer about whether or not she owes me the money will cost more than the actual refund for the color. So then I said "really? That's BS" At that point, she asked me to leave and I said no because the issue wasn't resolved. She then threatened to call the cops. So I told her to go ahead and call the cops because I didn't do anything wrong. The cops came and she ran out to them and acted like I had gone into the place and demanded all the money in the world. They asked me to leave so I did. Nothing ended up getting resolved. She is just a bully and probably one of the worst human beings I have ever met.

I have never in my life ever been treated so badly. I am not a rude person. I felt it was unfair to pay for something that I was so unhappy with, especially when I was very specific. I didn't expect it to look exactly the same, I wanted something similar. Now I have brassy hair that makes me feel ugly. It is definitely not the way a woman wants to feel after a trip to the salon. This was supposed to be my treat to myself. I had just had a birthday and was feeling good about the weather getting warmer and wanted a nice change. It was my mistake for going to a different salon than I normally do (the only reason why I did that was because my girl was booked solid for two weeks but next time I will wait as long as it takes and never go anywhere else.) Lesson learned.

I have always traveled to NYC to get my hair done, and a friend recommended Reflections. My stylist gave me an amazing cut and the color was beautiful for just a fraction of the price that I usually pay. What a find! I will definitely be back next month!

Reflection on Main is a great place for those who want a friendly small town experience. This locally owned establishment is only a short walk away from most Metuchen residents. The stylists are friendly and the service is good for its price.
