I hate to see people complain about waiting to see Dr. Thal. I have places to go and things to do, but my health comes first. I would spend time or money to see her. The bottom line is that she cares. She will get to the bottom of things.

I had patronized Corrales Family Practice for almost a decade. Its old fashioned medicine, that takes more than 10 minutes . She takes her time to understand you and your health issues. I would wait for hours to see her and think it was worth it. My mother-in-law had a botched Cancer removal procedure even though she doesn??t specialize in Cancer. She discovered critical information that was helpful to her last year of life because Dr.Thal took the time and intelligence to investigate and understand her condition . I am forever grateful to her

I've been a patient at this office for 5 years or so. To establish her as a primary care physician (PCP) took a 6-month wait for an appointment, HOWEVER, this is actually very typical for health care in NM. If you are from a more progressive area like Denver, be prepared for long waits to drive you crazy with any health provider or any issue.

You can get in to see the physician's assistant (PA) very quickly, and if you really feel you need to see Dr. Thal personally, you can get in within a few days to weeks (after established as PCP). Note that seeing the PA is always sufficient because if the PA needs to consult her, she will come in.

Which brings me to why sometimes you must wait a very long time and other times you are "in and out". Dr. Thal wants to spend sufficient time with each patient to ensure all questions are answered and issues are addressed. If you have an urgent (but not emergency) care need, they will fit you in. So consider that if you go in and need more of her attention than may have been anticipated, YOU WILL GET IT. But this is at the "sacrifice" of her other patient's time. Seems fair that when others need more of her attention, you wait longer, but when you need more, you get it.

My biggest complaint that would seem to be easily fixable is prescription fills/refills. In general, they no longer do paper scripts. So for a renewed refill, as an example, you must get the pharmacy to fax the request to the office. But every single time for the past few years, the fax "gets lost" by the office. I have every time had to call the pharmacy to confirm transmittal, then call the office who says they never got it, then the pharmacy to resend. If I'm lucky, I don't have to repeat this process again (and again). Worst case took almost 3 weeks to get a refill, which was REALLY annoying since I initially called with more than a week's worth of pills left and I STILL RAN OUT.

RE: RATING OF 4 STARS... If I were still in CO, I would have given this office 3 stars. But NM has a shortage of health care professionals and all are overworked. So for a doctor in NM, 4 stars is probably right.

Pros: Personalized Care

Cons: Inconsistent Service; Visit Often Seems Rushed

Scheduled appointment months in advance. New doctor (PA) in the office. I waited in the office for over 3 hours for my scheduled appointment, then another 45 minutes in the back. When the doctor arrived, she had no idea who I was, what my history was, has never looked at my chart, but diagnosed me without so much as a touch. Gave me a stack of tests to go to, even though I had just been tested for the same tests within the last year. So disorganized and seemed like looking for a way to make additional money for the practice. Looking for a new doctor. This one has beaten me up one too many times.

Pros: Could be good, but overbooked and greedy

Cons: Wait for hours and hours

Dr. Thal and her staff are friendly and and the office is a house, not a steril looking building. Sometimes I've had to wait as I realize she takes time with her patients and even writes out a sheet of what patients need to do and sends it with them. I always plan to relax and wait so I take a good book. After 8 years going to Corrales Family Practice, I've felt listened to and cared for. It has helped me to write down every question I have before I see her and we look over them. She is open to Acupuncture, Chiropractic and Massage. She has a massage therapist that works in the office. She tries to integrate what's going on in the body, mind and spirit. She has helped me very much. Dr. Thal stresses preventitive medicine and so far what she has suggested I do (tests, etc.) has worked out to help me feel respected so I'll agree to what she suggests and then fell more relaxed after knowing I'm fine or if not, we've caught the problem in time.I trust her judgement and if a certain protocal isn't working, I go back and we work on it more. She works with her patients to find a solution..

Pros: Environment, Parking, Servive

Cons: Left in exam room long that I would have liked, but I still had my book to read

.

Every appointment I had at this office, I sat in the wating room for NO LESS than one hour before I was brought back to an exam room. The front desk staff do not appear knowledgeable. My name was misspelled on my file, even though it was clearly printed on my insurance card and handwritten very clearly by myself on all my intake forms. The PA who saw me, Larry Rustemeyer, has a very abrasive attitude and blames his computer equipment for the frustrating circumstances. The straw that broke the camel's back was the day they completely forgot about me. I had come in on a Saturday and showed up early for my appointment. It was a hour and a half before they even brought me back to the exam room. It was another hour and a half before they remembered I was there. They apologized, but I had already wasted 3 hours of my day off in that office. It was another hour before my appointment concluded. Needless to say, I will never return to that office.
