My husband and I have been to Scarpas twice and ordered pizza each time. The first time we ordered the wild mushroom pizza and it was excellent. Second time around we had one of their vegetarian specials of the day which we loved just as much. Their prices are very reasonable as well.

Sorry to all you Scarpa lovers...we've tried 3 different times, 3 different menu items and it just doesn't work for us. Pizza came burnt, pasta came dry, what can we say? We'll just have to mark this one off and on to new restaurant adventures!! :)

Pros: Not sure?

Cons: Can't get our food right!

My girlfriend got some sort of pasta and really enjoyed it. I tried their mushroom pizza which was terrible. Just thinking about it makes me sick now. The pizza featured some sort of exotic mushrooms which just tasted really bad. The pizza might have been OK otherwise. There was some sort of apple pastry with ice cream for dessert that was very good. Our server was friendly and helpful.

Pros: Terrible mushroom pizza

Cons: Decent pasta and desert

Scarpas has very good food, the pizza and salads are terrific, and the service is not great but average. The pasta is why I love this place!! I could not possible recommend anything more highly than the Red chili cream pasta with chicken. However the only time i go there is when im in the mood for it. I really wish this buisness would expand on its menu. However what they do have is good and worth checking out.

My husband and I went to the one on Eubank and Montgomery for dinner and we will not be going back. We ordered an appetizer first and a couple beers, when the waitress brought the beers she said the appetizer will be out soon-so I know she heard us when we ordered it. Well, the appetizer never came and our food didn't come out for 30 minutes. My husband's pasta was good and hot, but my pizza was cold like it had been sitting out for a while. We were starving and ate it anyway, people that got sat after us were already finishing their meals and getting the check. The waitress was apologetic and the food was okay, but I'll never go again.

Unlike some of the other reviewers, I have only eaten at Scarpa's once, and only by myself, so I lack their perspective. Still, I was impressed with both the ambience and the food. The menu is straightforward, with three main categories: brick oven pizzas, salads and pasta dishes. I ordered a pasta dish, which was freshly prepared with the pasta properly done, served with a relatively imaginative sauce of Italian sausage, sun-dried tomatoes and wine, thickened with just enough cream to hold it together without making it excessively rich. The salad was good, and the selection of beers admirable.
It's a comfortable place, with parties ranging widely in size. Great place to sit and enjoy the evening.

Large variety of food all of it good; pizza, salads, pasta. Nice atmosphere, dark and quiet enough to be romantic, but still good for small groups of people. Informal, sharing dishes is popular here, including the salads, so you can try alot of different things. Prices are reasonable., good selection of drinks. Service is generally very competent.

The best brick oven pizza in town. For everyone who loves a thin and crispy crust, it is the perfect pizza, with just the right amount of sauce and toppings, never soggy or falling apart. Their salads are a great accompaniment to their pizza. In fact the whole menu is superb.

Excellent service every time. I do occasionally order there distinct coffee flavored ice-cream drizzled with caramel and whipped cream, of course we all share, as it is enormous. Reminds me of fried Ice-cream. My niece of 5 years of age just loves it. She is well behaved.

It would be wonderful to have one on the west side of Albuquerque, say, near the Cottonwood Mall/Rio Rancho. Many restaurants there. I understand there will be one in Santa Fe, NM in the near future.

Looking at all the existing reviews, it seems there is quite an emotional dichotomy between loving and hating Scarpas. Here are some more concrete data:

My wife and I have been to Scarpas several times, and we've always *loved* the food. It's wonderful italian food, a nice atmosphere, and has a quaint micro-brewery (altough that doesn't interest me much since I don't drink).

Parking is a little cramped, and there isn't much selection for dessert (they only have one dessert item, and it has coffee flavoured ice-cream, which I despise) but the pizza and pasta is so good that I enjoy going back.

The portions aren't super-sized, but they are filling. You'll probably want dessert afterwards, but maybe from somewhere else. ;)

Overall, Scarpas is a good place to eat, but I wouldn't go there every weekend. =)

Message from Scarpas

Scarpas opened its first location in 1994 and became an instant local favorite. With our two locations in the lovely North East Heights, Scarpas is the perfect place to meet friends and family, have a delicious meal and enjoy its relaxed, Italian old world charm. Scarpas is known for our gourmet pizza, a perfectly cooked thin crust thanks to our custom built brick ovens. Our crust is cooked at a high temperature to produce an ideal texture that is light and crispy. We have a wide selection of unique pizzas on our menu - all made with the freshest ingredients. We also feature delicious fresh salads and pasta dishes, and an extensive beer and wine list. Remember to check out the "Special Board" on your next visit to see the chef's daily offerings.Finish your meal with our famous and most sought after dessert, the Torta Di Mele. It is an unbelievable combination of puff pastry apple tart, ice cream and chocolate, caramel and whip cream. Come in for lunch or dinner, relax with family and friends and enjoy a memorable meal at Scarpas.
