It has been a while since I delivered in 2009 but a few people have asked about my experience so here it is. I loved Dr. Gutierrez. She ended up delivering my baby. I did really like Dr. Ortiz and Johnson as well. Dr Castillo lacks bedside manner and I felt like she was trying to get rid of me at appointments. Mona Rae and Helen were also very good clinically and are very nice. The billing and labs are awful, but they are outsourced. The office is always very busy. Mostly it goes very smoothly after you get established. You have to take charge to get in touch with the clinicians. The front staff are not always helpful or don't always get the message across in a timely manner. Overall the experience with them was good and I would go back.

Let me start off by saying, I've never written a review on anything, but felt compelled in this case. I'm a medical provider in a neighboring town and will not be returning to this clinic or recommending it to anyone. My labs were submitted to the wrong lab company and I ended up getting stuck with a $200 bill. I tried to deal with the office. No one was helpful at all. I spoke with Stephanie, the Nurse Coordinator. She was rude and unhelpful as well. She actually told me that the medical staff don't check the insurance information on any of the patients that they see before completing their lab requisitions. REALLY???!!!!! That would be totally unacceptable at the clinic where I work. I've called during office hours and their phones have been turned off. Other times I call and the phone goes unanswered. Customer service is horrible. So if you're looking for a clinic that does their job well . . . better look some where else.

I'm not sure which nurses were working in 2010, but I'm going through my first pregnancy and have almost all positive things to say. Dr Ortiz is my preferred person because I get his sense of humor and he's direct and honest about questions I have. Mona Rae, one of two midwives, is easy to talk to and very knowledgeable. Dr. Gutierrez is also great at what she does. The nurses I've come into contact with are all helpful and patient and efficient. Of course, the wait time can be long - one was almost 30 minutes - but there's only so much they can control. I've preferred to see different doctors because I won't know who's on call when I'm in labor and prefer to be comfortable with as many as possible for the big day. Bloodwork/glucose tests can be done just down the hall - there aren't as helpful, but that's another review. The sonographers are also really great. I think things have improved since previous posts and am very happy with my service.
PS - Take the childcare prep classes - they're free for OB/Gyn patients; Tracy and Kimberly are great!

Wrote a review back in 2009, that I would like to update. I did decide to deliver at Mountain View so I went back to OB-GYN Consultants with baby #3. I saw all of the docs and both midwives during the course of my pregnancy. Overall I would much prefer to see just 1 or 2 providers as was the case with baby #1. I think it makes the experience more personal and I think it also develops better lines of communication between patient/provider. However, it seems that in Las Cruces that is just not how it's usually done.
The Cons: There is room for improvement in the reception and nursing areas. Receptionists could be friendlier (but they were alright). The nurses often seem a bit disinterested in their work. Some were better than others. It's also still hard to get bloodwork results and that is really annoying.
The Pros: Not sure if she's part of the practice, but the ultrasound person, Carla, was really great. I found Dr. Castillo to be a bit more engaging this time. I don't think she is "cold," maybe just not super outgoing. I really liked midwife Helen, and Dr. Johnson. I ended up having Dr. Ortiz deliver. I think maybe people don't get his sense of humor right away. I was a bit unsure at first, but came to really like him and he was a great doctor. The birth came up sort of suddenly and he was in the room and ready to go quickly.
Overall: I much preferred my whole hospital experience at Mountain View in 2010 to the one at Memorial when I had w/ baby #2 in 2008. As long as you stay involved in your care and ask questions (which you should do anywhere!) OB-GYN Consultants and Mountain View are, in my opinion, the best you can find in Las Cruces.

I have been with this practice since 2004 and am on my 4th pregnancy (3rd with this practice). It is now 2010. I have had overall positive experiences in the past, however it sorely pales in comparison to care received in larger city.

Often the wait time is obscene. Their newest midwife doesn't inspire any confidence, and even a month ahead of time I can not get an appointment with my preferred physician (or even one I just haven't seen yet - you will have to see everyone b/c there is no telling who will be on call when you deliver).

I am getting the run around on blood work. It shouldn't take 2 damn weeks to get someone to call you back about your blood work. I have been playing phone tag all week and can't seem to get anyone to call me back. The receptionists, who are typically nice while interacting with you, are getting annoyed. I'm getting pissed.

All that said, there aren't many choices in Las Cruces, and overall I would say Dr. Castillo is great, albeit a bit short on bedside manner, if you want someone who is going to be aggressive and knowledgeable. Dr. Ortiz, is OK but a little unimpressive, and even though I am almost 30 weeks I have not met Dr. Johnson yet.. we will have to see. Midwife Helen is great, but still not a physician, and the other midwife I am trying to never see again.

In 2004 I went to Ob/Gyn Consultants whent I was pregnant with my daughter. I had numerous complications and they handled everyone quickly and efficiantly. At that time, I would have recommended their practice to anyone. However, that has definately changed!! Since then I have gone to them 3 times for pregnancies and have misscarried all 3 times. They have been very cold and uncarring, The nurses were rude, insisting that I was going to have a D and C before they even confirmed the last misscarriage. Today I called to make an appointment because I am pregnant again. I was told that they could not see me until almost August, even with my history. I was then told I would be required to attend a group orientation to discuss office procedures and my medical history. This is illegal!!! It is a violation of HIPPA for them to require any patient to discuss their medical history with ANYONE other than the Drs. I will defiantely find a different group this time!

I am in my third trimester and have seen all the doctors. Dr. Castillo is not very personable and cold. She just doesn't seen concerned. I love the other doctors. Helen, Joseph, and the new midwife they have are great. The nurses need a cup of energy because they act as if they don't want to be at work. As a pregnant woman I would prefer not to deal with your attitude. They need to really train their staff in customer service. Smiling is a good thing. They really should try it. Overall, they need to get rid of the nurses, and Dr. Castillo and the facility in my opnion would be great! :)

I really do not like this practice, they were very cold esp. Dr. Castillo! I found them not to be considerate to my needs. And I can't stand the fact that when you call with a concern and you need to schedule an appointment they tell you no and just has a nurse call you back. It's ashame that instead of calling them, i'd rather just walk into the ER because I felt they weren't going to do anything anyways. Point is, Ob GYN consultants wasn't very friendly to me nor considerate to my concerns. The only doctor that I really would recommend and that I really liked was Dr. Guiterrez. I would try First Step they seem to be a good OB clinic

I have been reading the comments and I am surprised. However it is not just the comments. Somebody also personaly told me of the bad expierience with this clinic. As far as my expeirence, (sorry cant spell) They treated me very well. I had Dr. Ortiz, he treated me very well. He also did surgery on me and did a great job. Never laughed or mocked me as some say. Sooo.. I would have to say so far I am happy with them.

Like several of the others I too had no choice but to go to OB GYN Consultants because I was delivering multiples. Except for the Sonagrapher, Roz, and a couple of the nurses I found everyone at this practice lacking in skill and bedside manner. I actually moved to Las Cruces mid way through my pregnancy and many of the details my doctor out of state was careful about checking the Drs. at this practice completely disregarded. I even had to call my Dr. back home several times just to get questions answered. Dr. Ortiz is a joke and Dr. Castillo barely better. The choices in Las Cruces are limited but if you can avoid this clinic!!!

At first i was kinda worried about going to this clinic. Gut was saying stay away but given that my first daughter was delivered at MMC we decieded not go thru them this time around. They were horrible at MMC for my 1st birth. Oby Gyn Cons. are the worst. From the front office staff to the nurse to dr's. my delivery happen within i would say 30 minutesof my arrival at the hospital and Rose the midwife delivered my daughter. she was actually a wonderfully lady and her bedside manner was amazing. i had no time for meds or anything and she made it a smooth delivery. i think they need more ppl like her around to make that ofice workable. Dr. ortiz and Dr. Castillo are a laugh. they both ran unnec. testing on me for no reason and needless to say at the end concluded nothing. Nurse by the name of Samantha has horrrible bedside mnner to treat patients. think they need to get rid of evryone and try once again! they outta be ashamed of thier professionalism. i would not recommend nor return there. i rather have no care and deliver i nthe street if they were the only chioce!!! BAD BAD BAD!!

I switched back in 2007 because I found the office/billing poorly run, I did not get the results of my blood work for weeks, (I had to call several times) and I found Dr. Castillo to be quite cold. Unfortunately there aren't many choices in Las Cruces. I was not fond of my experience at Memorial so I would like to try Mountain View, but I don't really want to go back to this practice.

i called during lunch hour & got answ. machine, wish now i had left a message as i have been calling for half an hour and phone just rings and rings. i noticed when i was last there the receptionist was on a personal call and left me standing at the counter for at least 5 minutes before she got of the phone to check me in. i had to wait almost another hour to see Nurse Telford. i noticed then she ignored the phone and just let it ring. when i DO get a chance to speak to Nurse Telford, i will let her know, IF i ever can get through! probably will have to wait till after hours to leave a message and hope for a call back tomorrow. After my 2nd trimester with my son I went into see Dr. Ortiz after having problems with my kidneys and under the impression I had kidney stones I realized that he hadn't looked at my charts and felt that what I was saying that my son would be early because of how big he was. Dr Ortiz and Dr. Guitrez thought that I might need to be re evaluated and suggested everything was fine, after that visit I felt as if I was being mocked and for being so far into my pregnancy I couldn't find another doctor, after passing 3 kidney stones "thank you" I delivered my son early as I had once said to a healthy 9 pound 21 in baby boy, have I gone back for any check ups no, do I plan to unfortunately they have monopolized Mountain View with Ob Gyn and I will go back only if I have a third child and if we still live here in Las Cruces other then that I say no thanks...

I went to OB/Gyn Consultants for my whole 1st pregnancy in 2002. Diane McElroy, the Midwife in the practice was amazing, to say the least. She was very friendly and made me feel that she truly cared about me and my baby-to-be! What I remember most about her, though, was her commitment to me and my decision to breastfeed my baby. The nurses at MMC were trying to force a bottle on my newborn less than 24 hours after delivery because he wasn't nursing as vigourously as they wanted, even being told NO BOTTLES because I wanted only to nurse. Diane came in to visit me and I told her what happened and she went and ripped on those nurses and none bothered me again!! That meant so much to me that she backed me on my decision and seemed to also feel quite offended that the nurses would do that, as there was no harm to my newborn, who, after such a long labor and being only HOURS old, was not too hungry yet. ANYWAY.... wonderful people, doctors, and midwife!! I am 2 1/2 months pregnant with my 2nd baby and if I were still in the area, I would definitely go back for prenatal care for this one!

I too delivered twins in September however, after my first visit with Dr. Ortiz I promptly left and moved to First Step Womens Health. I was a patient of Womens Medical Associates on Triviz and after finding out at week 10 that I was having twins the midwife there told me I had to switch because they did not deliver multiples. I had heard that Dr. Ortiz was a good doctor but had no idea what a jerk he was. After telling him that I had a history of preterm labor and that I was concerned that carrying twins put me at even greater risk, he quicky dismissed me and told me there was nothing that could be done for preterm labor. I knew after going into labor early with my son there was a multitude of treatments for preterm labor. Not only was he rude, he practically laughed at me when I told him what I thought we could do. What gives the doctors at this practice the right to treat their patients this way. Don't waste your time here, go somewhere else.

If you have a choice as to who will provide OB care to you in Las Cruces, you definitely don't want to choose OB/GYN consultants. Their office staff doesn't seem to know what is going on and are sometimes downright rude. Dr. Castillo and Dr. Ortiz have horrible bedside manner and if given the chance will make you feel like an idiot. I was forced to have them handle my pregnancy as I delivered twins and the Dr. I had previously chosen did not deliver multiples. Dr. Castillo and Dr. Ortiz disregarded any research/reading I had done about twin pregnancies and acted as if it was no big deal. Coming from a city where there was a multitude of OBs to choose from, this seemed like prison to me. I would never recommend this practice.

My wife got out of their office a few hours ago and was crying! The "nurse" taking care of her was criticizing her up and down and literally made her feel like she was the worst parent in the world! Why would someone who you put so much trust into degrade you like this? They said she should be put on depression medication and that she was a bad mom! She was also looking deep into her medical history and once again criticizing her for that as well. Correct me if I am wrong but that seems like a violation of patient rights to both confidentiality and fair treatment. Either way I am going with her to our next appointment and voicing my concerns so this doesen't happen to anyone else!

So far this office has not called me back to give me my blood work results. I had to call to get them. There was a problem with my blood work and they still have not set up an appointment for me to work that out. I have called and called and gotten the run around. When I did see my Dr. on the first visit it was in an out (even though I had to wait forever) and the Dr. didn't stay to answer any of my questions. So far I am very dissapointed with their service.... especially when they should be making pregnant women feel at ease not more stressed out.

I really loved all my doctors and mid-wife at this office. Their staff was excellent and I would recommend them to everyone. Their mid-wife Diane McElroy is wonderful.

PROS: You can deliver at Mountain View Regional Medical Center
CONS: You can't bring home the doctors with you.
