ABC Cake Shop & Bakery

I am a local caterer, who uses ABC's Bakery on a regular basis! Recently, I had an immediate need , their staff was friendly, understanding, and most of all accomodating. The cake that I purchased was a white cake with a delicious lemon filling, topped with a scrumptious icing( just a hint of lemon to compliment, but not overpower). I had so many compliments on the cake- one of the guest inquired if I made the cake- I confessed I did not- she ordered her twins that exact cake for their 9th birthday party.
I have read some of the other reviews; and have never experienced a poor product or unfriendly service. However, working with this establishment has been a blessing to my business; and I know without a shadow of a doubt, if there were ever a problem with my order, they would go out of their way to make it right ( even if they had to deliver it to you personally @ your function) .. I know from experience that this type of service will not be received from your local grocery store. If you give them the opportunity, which I am glad I have, and will continue to do!

First a word of caution. They are closed on Sundays. More warnings: you will leave heavier then when you entered. I have been known to have a pastry and coffee and go back and do the same again. It is all but impossible to look at the vast and delicious selection and restrict yourself to only one measly thing. It all looks and tastes too good. I would recommend something but there is no point because it is ALL good. You might not want to bother with something like a sticky bun which other people can do alright with. Get something like a sourthern red velvet cupcakes. The coffee could be better and more consistent. They should work at this because then they would be perfect. But frankly you could skip the coffee altogether and they'd still be worth the trip. We're lucky to have this place and others like it in New Mexico- it's rare

I purchased a cake for a baby shower and the cake was extremely dry (chocolate) and the icing wasn't a buttercream which is what I ordered but simply an inexpensive whipped topping. We were all extremely disappointed and neither I (nor any of the other shower attendents) will patronize ABC again!

I love the decorating at ABC. I've ordered a few from them because themes amuse me. They always come out just as they do in the catalog.

The cakes have never come out well. We eat them cause, well they'll get old and we paid so much for them. The cakes are always dry. For being a bakery, they don't do a very good job at baking. Is there a shortage of water? LOL I could do a better job myself. I tried one year. I asked if I could buy a cake set through them and just make it myself. The first lady was helpful about it. The person she referred me to, bit my head off. I just want ONE? Heck no! I have to buy SIX of them!

The actual moral of that was I got to learn how much the sets cost. It turns out that they are almost 50% of the cake bill. That's okay but, it still seems a little pricey for a few pieces of minimally detailed plastic and cheap buttercream.

I DO know that I am NOT going to order strawberry cake again! That was NOT strawberry in any way. It was white with food coloring. It looked like it was bleeding on the table. LOL

Pros: They have great themes and are skilled in creating them.

Cons: The food is awful and they're a little pricey.

Heavenly and to die for should never be used in the same sentence but im sorry these gourmet cupcakes are to die for!!!! I had the wedding of my dreams on July 19, 2008 and ABC made the wedding cake of my dreams. The cake was FABULOUS. My guests were trying to figure out if the cake was real because it looked so pretty. It was the most beautiful cake I have ever seen. It was sectioned into 4 pieces (Chocolate Strawberry Peaches n Cream Key Lime) I can't even put into words how wonderful the taste was. Each Section had its own unique taste. I had no cake left from a cake that could feed 150 people. All of my guest (92) were taking large portions home because it was so good. I actually saw a couple of my guest fussing because they didn't want the cake to be eaten up so they could take some home. I plan on using him for all of my special occasion cakes. I HIGHLY, HIGHLY recommend him.I also used him for my mother's 50th birthday celebration(the best CHOCOLATE BROWNIES I have ever tasted). And I am now using them for my nephew 2 year old's birthday party I don't remember how I found out about this place but im glad I did..........THANKS ABC

I?m writing to tell you that we were delighted with the cake you made for our graduation party last year, thanks for the time and attention to detail it was very impressive. The customer service was amazing too. Well done, i 've already told all my friends about it.

ABC's cakes are great. They did my wedding cake last year and I was a little disappointed. They lost the pearls I gave them to use around the edges, so they improvised with frosting (without letting me know. My cake just showed up that way...they never even tried to contact me), and, when the cake was set up, they left it tipping to one side. Not a little, but very noticably. I was happy that my cake did not tip over, but it was tipping so much that it easily could have. The decoration on the cake was simple and elegant as I requested, I was just sad about the pearls. The cake did taste great and there was none left over. Afterward, it took a great deal of effort and quite a few pictures for proof, but they finally agreed to refund 10% of the cost.

My husband went back to ABC this week to order a 7 inch round white cake to be decorated like our wedding cake for our anniversary (we didn't save the original top piece). Our wedding cake was decorated simply with smooth, white buttercream frosting and a few s-shaped swirls on the sides, also done with white buttercream. Nothing fancy. Simple and understated. ABC was happy to make the 7 inch round cake for us, but they charged us an additional $10 because it was decorated "like a wedding cake". I'm thoroughly disgusted by this. We paid the $10 because we want to celebrate our first anniversary with a cake decorated like our wedding cake, but how we asked them to decorate it has far less embellishment than all of the cakes in their display case. There are no flowers, nothing extra, just smooth, white frosting with a couple of swirls on the side, but because we mentioned the word "wedding", they threw in the extra charge.

ABC makes great cakes, and they know it. They will nickel and dime you with whatever you let them get away with. I still gave them a recommendation because their cakes taste great, but be aware that you'll pay for greatness, and customer service leaves much to be desired.

The buttercream is to die for. I order a cake for my son's birthday. It was white cake with raspberry filling and the best tasting buttercream in the world............. I would recommend.

I saw a very cute Nemo designed cake at a friend's house for her 1 yr old's birthday and decided that I would order the same for my 2 yr old's birthday. We also ordered the cake in chocolate. When I went to pick up the cake - it looked awful! The Nemo cake looked nothing like my friend's AND the chocolate cake was DRY too! We paid over $30 for an ugly dry tasting cake! When I called to tell ABC bakery they just sat on the phone and said NOTHING! I had to ask if they were still on the line. They said they could not do anything about it! I would have been satisfied with some sort of coupon or discount off the cake -- but it was if they did not care! I guess their business is doing so good that they don't care about CUSTOMER SERVICE anymore!

Pros: Lots of designs for cakes of all ocassions

Cons: If you get a Bad or Inexperienced cake decorator - you've just waisted your time and money! They are EXPENSIVE TOO!

Ordered an ice cream cake. Picked it up. When out of my way to ensure it did not melt before party. During party, noticed there was no ice cream. Called manager the next day. I was told that maybe next time, I'll double-check the order.
