I have a constipated dog and took him to the VCA. 2 days and $2100 later I still have a very sick and very constipated dog. They didnt do ANYTHING except run a bunch of tests, hold him for two days, increase charges, and administer TWO Enemas a day. The things they were charging for were ridiculous! $85 dollars to administer shots. Not counting the price of the medication that was being given. $40 for an IV dispenser rental. Thats right; they charged me a daily rental fee on the bag holder for my dogs IV. Unacceptable.

This was one of the worst experiences of my pet owning life. I feel used and fully taken advantage of. I will forever and always recommend against the VCA to everyone I meet from here on out. Greed in your moment of weakness is their business plan.

Ratings_icons Excellent care and always there

I have no idea how the previous reviews could be of the same place I took my dog! The staff was compassionate and friendly, one tech say I was crying while on the phone to my son and brought me a box of Kleenex with an added squeeze to the shoulder to show she cared.
My dog got excellent care, I was allowed to visit with him and the tech and Vet sat on the floor next to his "room" and talked with me.
Yes, It is expensive, so is all health care these days and this facility offers expertise and care not found in other facilities and they are open 24/7 which is a comforting thought when you have a dog with a life threatening condition. It's all in how you look at things I guess, I love these guys!

Ratings_icons VCA Expensive, Barely Professional

I took my cat in as he was blocked, which is life threatening.
He spent two days there and it was $1700+. I had to ask to see the vet when he was released, which I found very strange. They didn't give me much info and the info they did give seemed confusing and contradictory. No to urine acidifiers, but they gave him Hill C/d which is an acidifier for instance. They gave me no options as to anything else I could feed him, as I think vets and Hills are a little too cozy. The vet did not take me back to the examining room but just talked in the lobby. I saw no lab reports. They didn't seem entirely cold, but also seem to be in it for the money.

My real vet is much better, but also doesn't have emergency hours.

VCA must have wrote the first review. I'm not surprised by the others. All I have heard from anyone who has taken their animals there is pretty bad. Indifferent, rude, insensitive -- just to name a few -- staff and doctors. It's a little obvious it's just about money. If it was really about caring people who love animals that wouldn't be the case. People and businesses of that sort are characteristically nasty people. My mother has taken her dogs there as a last resort and it's always bad. She lives close by and doesn't like to drive too far she's also a senior citizen. What a shame, shame on you VCA! I guess most people don't really do anything about it. That's why they're still in business. Well if I had had an "experience" with them I would see to it that they were no longer in business. When it comes to my family and especially my mother and the little guy who I will not name, not everyone is just going to put up with this kind of garbage and do nothing.

Ratings_icons Expensive and impersonal

I had a pug spayed over a year ago. i was new to the area and selected VCA as it appeared professional. I was charged over
500.00 dollars for her uncomplicated surgery. I felt as if we were
in a factory. I have since used another vet who is kind and
caring. I would never select VCA unless there was no other vet within 100 miles. I expect to pay for experienced and quality care.
Vets are well educated and work hard. But I was incredulous that
they were so expensive and basically detached. I get better attention when I have my car serviced. They are probably competent
but I would not recommend them for personal care.

Ratings_icons Buyer Beware!

H M.

We used VCA because I am taking care of a friend's dog while they are on vacation. VCA is their regular vet, for now anyway. (I have 4 other dogs that we take to a wonderful vet up the street.) Zoiks! This dog had a very slight laceration on her leg and we erred on the side of caution and took her in for a look. $700 later we had been treated for everything from giardia and fleas to tapeworm. And yes, four stitches. I was stunned. They wanted to see us again the next day. We gave them another $40 and were not allowed in the treatment room while they checked their work. This seems very odd and not good for the patient. I looked on the web and overcharging seems to be the norm for VCA. Buyer beware!

Ratings_icons Very Disappointing Visit

This place shows absolutely no compassion. They overcharge for everything, and won't even let you inside the exam room to comfort your pet. I sat there for 2 hours when my cat was desperately ill, and no one even bothered to tell me how she was doing, despite the fact that I was in tears. They ran needless tests costing me upwards of $500, and considered running more tests that would have cost $500 more. They also prescribed asthma medication, even though it was obvious to my regular vet that she did not have asthma. I took her to my regular vet soon thereafter and he was able to diagnose her with an enlarged heart. The only reason we came to VCA was because it was open when other places are not, and I would never go back. I felt no compassion for my cat, nor myself, and it seemed like the main motivation of this hospital is money.

Ratings_icons A Specialty Animal Hospital

Vel B. | insider_expert Insider Expert | Rank: 5,809

VCA Animal Hospital is located off the corner of Eubank and Montgomery. Parking is in the rear and is plentiful. They offer specialty care including chemotherapy, and often require a referral from your regular vet. Because it is a specialty care facility, prices are higher than your normal vet, but are worth it.
