As an educator with 12 years teaching experience in the cities of Chicago and Los Angeles, Cheyenne is the worst run school I have ever been associated with. During the school year I was one of 12 teachers that broke their contracts under pressure. The principals made it their personal vendetta to try and ruin my teaching career. I was verbally attacked, suspended on false grounds, as were other teachers. At the end of the year over half of the faculty left. The remaining half couldnt leave because of the districts 2 year contract policy. The administration is not there for the students or the teachers; they are motivated by the power of the title. With 12 teachers quitting the school had a problem of replacing them and had sub after sub trying to maintain control. Under the replacement subs, the students learned how to glue books together and to walls, throw food and drinks, drill holes in books and tables with student scissors. As you can see the learning environment left much to be desired. Education is not a top priority at Cheyenne. The district now has passed a policy that does not allow administrators to bully or demean teachers as this administration has. Maybe the 12 teachers that resigned helped this law get passed.
At open house, I was discussing the lack of textbooks with some parents. The principal walked by and overheard. I was called down to his office the next morning, he stated that discussing the lack of textbooks at an open house was inappropriate; it is none of the parents business whether there are enough books for their children.
The principal demanded that the teachers stand by their classroom doors between passing periods. We werent allowed to use the restroom or to help students. I was helping a student one day and he told my number one priority was to stand in the hall, not to help students. From then on he walked by my classroom every passing period to make sure that I was standing in the hall.
I could go on and on about how ridiculous this administration is but I think you get the picture. DO NOT ENROLL YOUR STUDENTS HERE AND DO NOT WORK HERE!
