The psycho woman's store was closed but she relocated! Do not buy from her (or any other puppy store). You are supporting puppy mills when you buy from these kinds of places. Please adopt and save a life.

Ratings_icons Pets in the City is DISGUSTING

Randy D.

This place is disgusting and Dora (the owner) is insane. I hear that she is being prosecuted for animal cruelty in California after abandoning many puppies in an empty storefront with no food or water. EVERY animal purchased from here will be flea ridden and probably have giarrdia or some other fecal parasite. She houses over 100 dogs...some kept in aquariums in the back room of her shop or at her house. This place is disgusting and you should be ashamed of yourself if you are encouraging people to purchase animals from here! Remember buying a dog from here just allows her to put another dog in the same situation!!!!

I have a little Yorkie from this store. Juno's price was 60% cheaper than other sources i considered. Plus I am impressed with how helpful the staff was. I didn't know too much about the care that a puppy required until they spent some time with me before I decided on my puppy. Juno is only a little over 2 pounds at 4 months old. Thanks to the store we had a good transition home. I still have the owner's number so if any question or concern comes up I can call her. As for the smell in the store. What do people expect? You go to a nursery you will smell flowers, you go to a restaurant and smell food, a fish market for fish, and a puppy store and you're going to smell, hmm, PUPPIES! I must admit, the smell is better than some children in diapers that I have encountered.

Ratings_icons DO YOUR HOMEWORK...DON'T BUY FROM PETS IN THE CITY!

We bought an English Bulldog from this store about 3 weeks ago. Paid ALOT of money for him. He has been sick every since. Been to the vet 3 or 4 times already. Runny stools non stop for 3 weeks. I'm talking bad diarrhea that won't stop. Has been on meds for 3 weeks. They gave us medicine for him when we bought him for the diarrhea, and our vet didn't even know what it was. No Vet label on the bottle. Our vet was a bit concerned about it to say the least. Are they dispensing medicine with no license? I don't know. But before you buy a puppy from this store, think twice or more before you do. I DO NOT recommend this store AT ALL!! It is a dirty store, puppy are crammed in pens together, sick or not. Running around lose on the floor, sick or not. NO, I DON'T recommend this store.

Ratings_icons DISGUSTING!!!!!!

Anyone who is saying this is a great place is out of their minds. The puppies are all running around on the floor, running through feces that had blood in it. The ones that were not running around on the filthy floor where packed into pens. Some had crusty noses and appeared to to lethargic. One of the customers stepped in a pile of poop. You better spray your shoes with bleach if you have animals at home, who knows what you could bring into your home.I cannot believe this place has not been closed by animal control, they are not doing their job if this place stays open. DISGUSTING!!! I feel sorry for the animals. I don't know how anyone could work there.

don't support this pet store. no doubt they have some real adorable puppies..but there are too many pups in 1 store! the smell of the store is bad..its dirty..i haven't been in any pet store like this one! i was shocked when i went in. it was really sad to see all those puppies because it looked like they didn't have much space. i saw puppies humping which i NEVER seen before in any other stores..very unprofessional and this store is definitely only in for the money and not taking good care of their puppies..you can find other pet stores in Vegas that are clean more affordable and treat their puppies well.

A must visit when your in Las Vegas. The pet shop owner and her employees are constantly cleaning and caring for the puppies. Very friendly place. In the market for a puppy this is the place, if not be careful you might leave with one or two.

My husband and I had purchased only one dog from this store going on about two years ago and the transaction went very well, and ever since we visit this store a couple times a month for a mood-pick-me-up. Recently we bought another dog- a little Maltese puppy that we call Elise. She's a very tiny little thing with a nice price tag that comes along with that. Good things come in small packages, I suppose. (At least thats what my husband said to talk me into taking the financial plunge.) We spoke with the owner and told her our concerns, but she worked out a payment plan that fit our budget and we got to take our little one home. The lady told us that she could see it in our eyes that we wanted the puppy very badly and would be a good home- she wanted to make it possible for us to do so. We hope that our review helps other people see that they're still good people in this world and businesses that not only care about themselves but their customers too. This is our way to thank everyone involved at this store.

I did buy a dog from this place and I must admit reading reviews from sites like this one had me a little apprehensive. One day I decided to go around the valley to a few pet stores and settled on his one to purchase my dog, a King Charles Spaniel, Oliver. The so called "Asian Lady" isn't half as bad as most people make her out to be. In fact, why does the words "Asian Lady" have to be used at all? Does this supposed to categorize her differently? She knows a lot about the dogs in her shop and even let me speak to the breeder of my dog on the phone. That's what I call service! Oliver has been at home with me for almost three weeks, and yesterday I took him back into the store for a visit. To my surprise the owner greeted us and even cut his nails for me. Overall, I have had a very pleasant transaction with this pet store, and will be sending my friends in for a puppy. Hey, who knows, maybe I will come back and get Oliver a friend in a few months.

Every time I have dropped by pets in the city the staff has been more that willing to help me. The puppy seem to be taken care of and the little ones even get to eat oatmeal! That's a better breakfast than I am used to! I have not purchased a puppy yet, but I plan to this summer so I can spend more one on one time with it and get it potty trained. With help of the owner I have even chosen the breed that will best fit my life and I will be able to special order it even if they don't have one in the store at that time. Great service! A+!!!

Kitty, my Chihuahua, was purchased from Pets in the City. Full grown she is about four pounds and is the sweetest dog that I have ever had, and one of the most healthiest. She has only had to go to the vet for vaccines and has never had another wrong with her health. She is also really good with children and I firmly believe that is because this pet store allows their puppies the socialization they need to grow into well adjusted dogs. Since I purchased my dog I only visit the store about twice a month or else I will end up with another! I love this place thank you

THANK YOU Pets in the City for my Wheaton Terrier puppy! I absolutely love him and he is the best dog! The people at pets in the city allowed me to finance my puppy with payments that I could afford so i could take him home the day I fell in love with him. He did get a cold, but everything was covered by the store. After I paid him off I received all the promised A.K.C. paperwork for him. Great business! I refer people all the time!

I really enjoy my weekly ventures to this store. The staff really helps a lot when you have a question. I have a six month old English Bulldog from this store and the service I received not only when I purchased her, but even now when I have a question I don't hesitate to give them a call. The owner is always available if you need any help or have any question. I am eternally grateful to pets in the city for letting me realize my dream of owning Penney, my fur-baby. Thank you!!

The store was filled with 20-50 puppies and dogs. The smell was bad but with all those dogs, it wasn't a surprise. The owner was pushing off each puppy we looked at like a car salesman. All the puppies/dogs were adorable and I wish I could have saved them. Puppies were running everywhere; vomit and feces spots all over the tile floors; eyes were crusty and crusted over; etc.

I walk out of there depressed and helpless. Please do not support this business.

After reading the many reviews, I had to see for myself. Looking through the windows I could already see the overpopulation. The smell wasn't horrible but you can't deny there isn't one. I was surprised to see the pups running around everywhere, one actually tried to run out when I entered. As I walked around I was overwhelmed with itty bitty pups, most of which appear weak and depressed. The Asian women was more of a pushy sales person than an owner. Although the staff were constantly cleaning, the place just had an unhealthy feel. In the 15 minutes I was there, I saw a bulldog with cherry eye, hair loss, a boxer with diarrhea while the other pups ran through it and another ill boxer that wouldn't get up. Overall this is what i think of when I hear puppy mill. I'm sorry but this place is cruel and I feel for the puppies.

Ratings_icons If You Buy A "Puppy" From Here You Are Only Encouraging A Bad Business...

Chels s.

Ok so my friend and I had been on the search for puppies for over six months going to local pet stores and puppy boutiques and such. We eventually ran out of local places and went way out of the way to go check out pets in the city, I had found their website and they looked decent enough. However when we got their, i kid you not a friend that had gone with us as soon as we were in the store couldnt hold it in and started to cry. Needless to say she left the store while me and my other friend took in the grotesqueness of it all. First off their front desk was a mess, puppies were running everywhere, their were so many stuffed into one cage, the bigger dogs were locked in what looked like a dungeon in the back, almost all the dogs had a crustiness on their noeses as if sick, some had hair-loss and diarriah (sp?) and i some were even emaciated looking. To top everyhting off we asked about some of the dogs and were told their ages and most of them were six months or over. The owner or whoever the lady was (a middle aged or older asian women) tried her hardest to get us to purchase a dog saying since it was an older dog she could "give us a good deal on it" like it was a car. She had also named the older dogs and called them by name. Please I do not by your dogs from there, please dont support this woman. Lastly I am disgusted how they can advertise this pet store as a happy, healthy place on the tv program Vegas Pets (or whatever its called) when i have seen it first hand. Just terrible.

Ratings_icons WHAT A DUMP!!!!

My wife and i recently have scoured the valley in search of a new pet. We have seen many stores all over the valley, but this by far blew me away! I went back outside because i felt as if i was in a retail puppy mill! There were dogs (puppies) all over the place, some vomiting, some in corners shaking, one i didn't even know if it was alive! The only thing i thought was even halfway decent was the type of holding cells they were in (no wire on the bottom) unfortunately they were just so packed with puppies it was unbelievable....way to many in one cage. It was the most horrible store i have ever been in, EVER! I cant believe people actually let their children walk in this place besides the vomit there were dogs running loose on the floors urinating and defecating at will. It is not only unhealthy for the small puppies but very unhealthy for humans.Oh and by the way their puppy sale sign is tied to 2 handicapped sign posts (for parking) and cover the area that is supposed to be wheel chair accessible. I am so surprised Vons or even the landlord has done something about this. Apparently animal control doesn't exist out there.

Owner is a rude Asian lady. I purchased a English Bulldog from Pets in The City 2yrs ago. My wife and I frequently visit the store when we do our shopping at Von's. One day she yelled at one of her employees telling her "Don't hep them, they no serious, they only come he to look no buy!." The emploee apologized for the owners rudeness. We were very embarassed and will never will return. I would not reccomend them.

Ratings_icons SOLD US A SICK PUPPY!!!

Stella I.

My boyfriend purchased a puppy from Pets In The City on Durango for a Valentines Day gift. I was so delighted when he surprised me with it. At first glimpse, my 'PekaPoodle/Maltese' seemed alert, playful and so adorable. A closer look and I noticed that his poor little stomach was a bit bloated. I asked the owner is this normal? She responds "Oh that's normal, because it is a very healthy dog, he eats good.. Would you want a skinny dog instead who doesn't eat?" Her comment got me thinking but I was so excited that all I wanted to do was take him home. The first night my puppy would not stop choking/coughing and had signs of trouble breathing. Since my puppy was brought to a new environment, it seemed normal that he may act in such a way. The next morning, I called the pet store just to ensure that everything was fine. They told me "Just bring him in we'll take care of him". So I brought him in and they told me that they gave him a "breathing treatment" and some medicine. They wanted me to take him back the next day as a follow-up visit. The second night his breathing got worse and his stools showed signs of worms (which is typical) and some abnormal looking clumps of feces . The very next morning I called the pet store and told them what was going on. They said "Bring him in, we'll take care of him". When I brought him in, they immediately gave him half a pill that would cure the worms. They said come back in 2 weeks for the other half. As for the breathing they said "He may had got cold after his bath upon purchasing him the other day. Keep him warm and wrapped up". Nothing mentioned about the abnormal feces. Again, they wanted me to stop by the next day for another follow-up. They didn't want me to go to the Veterinarian because it may cost money. At this point, I wanted to take my puppy to the Pet Clinic rather than to the pet store. I've been there 3 days in a row and things just seem to be getting worse. I brought my puppy to Flamingo Pet Clinic and had him fully checked. They told me that he had "kennel cough", which may go away but may also lead to serious illness. My puppy was given antibiotics for the kennel cough and it would help the lesions on his stomach, pills for the parasites in his stool and for deworming. Now, I said enough is enough. Obviously, my puppy has been ill the whole time I've had him.For the next couple of days I tried to give him his medicine and kept hoping that he would get better. It did not happen.A week past and I decided to return the puppy. I was afraid that he really needed medical attention and felt that I was misinformed and cheated by Pets In The City to make a quick sale. Instead of enjoying my new companion, I ended up spending all my days worrying and nursing him. There was no trouble returning him to the store. My boyfriend told the owner that our puppy is sick and has been sick since you sold him to us. The owner responded without hesitation: "Do you want to return it.. No problem.." She didn't hesitate or even try to consider another puppy, she wanted us out of there. I could see the guilt and shame in the owner's gestures and facial expression. We left there and never turned back.

Ratings_icons Beautiful Puppy - Great experience

Anonymous

I had been researching breeders and didn't intend to buy a puppy from a pet store. But I was shopping nearby and was drawn into this place. I was very impressed from the outset - it is clean, bright and no bad smells. And my perfect puppy was there waiting for me. The puppy did have a mild stomach upset which the complimentary vet visit addressed and we have been great ever since. My puppy was very well socialized with a great personality. I think this place is a far cut above the rest in Las Vegas - they truly care about all of the pups and they want you to have a great experience. Prices are high but then again, you get what you pay for. I have no regrets and am very happy with my experience.

We bought our little puppy at Pet's and the City and the owner was really helpful as well as the staff! Puppy did get kennel cough but that's a risk you take anywhere you buy or adopt your puppy. We called the owner and they went above and beyond to help our puppy get better quick. Our puppy is a very good puppy, over course rambunctious at times, but still very lovable. You have choices on where to get your dogs, it's all up to you how well you raise and, importantly, train it. We recommend Pet's in The City all the way!

I walked into this shop and there are pens all over the place, just as it appears on their website. What it does not show on their site is there are at least 8 dogs per pen. When you get 8 puppies in a pen that close together, it is not good. They were all playing rough and the puppies who were smaller and less playful were getting bitten and beaten up by the other dogs. Drawing blood! When my Husband brought it to one of the employees attention, she said, "What do you want me to do about it, if I move him to another pen the same thing will happen". Not the answer we were looking for. I feel sorry for anyone who purchases a puppy that has gone through that. We WILL be reporting this business to the SPCA or wherever we need to.

Ratings_icons NOT RECOMMENDED!

Anna B.

I do not recommend Pets in the City. I am not fond of puppy mills at all. My intent was to purchase a family dog that my little five year old daughter could grow up with. Instead, I purchased a puppy that was sick with kennel cough which is typically found in pet stores. She was very weak when I brought her home and as soon as she got better in health, her temperament was became very bad. She was very beautiful but she was a snarling puppy. This is very rare in a puppy that young unless it was mistreated or taken from from her parents too early at a very young age. Not only had I found the wrong puppy, but their customer service was bad! They did offer me a refund but had no intention of assisting me to find a puppy that would better suite our family but they were quick to get our business. They were not friendly and they didn't offer advice like they mentioned on their home page. Over all, I am left broken hearted from this experience. I recommend that anyone considering to purchase a puppy, to take the time out to look in the paper for a private breeder where the puppy's parents are on site.

Ratings_icons Totally cute pups, totally outrageous prices

Michelle Y. | insider_expert Insider Expert | Rank: 13,012

If you are looking for a cute pup, this is the place to go, but beware the cost parallel the cuteness. Most of the staff is very courteous, but there are a few that arent. There is a small play area to acquaint yourself with your possible new pet, and the variety is good.

As with any kennel or pet store, the pups are in bins, and get a little over excited and tend to bit, so watch your little ones.

I am not fond of stores that sell puppies. This store is no exception. The dogs are in open type cages. There are signs that ask you not to pet the dogs, but it would be very easy for a child (and I saw lots of children petting dogs) to get get bitten by the sharp teeth of a playful puppy. This happened to me when I rested my hand on the edge of a cage and a playful lab grabbed my hand. The puppies are kept with others, which is good, but the torn paper at the bottom picks up the smells. If you're looking for a dog, I'd recommend a breeder rather than Pets in the City.

Ratings_icons THE WORST PET STORE

AnthonyH

I DROVE FROM SAN DIEGO CALIFORNIA AFTER READING ALL THE GREAT REVIEWS ABOUT THIS PET STORE. I AM COMPLETELY CONVINCED THAT THE STORE IS WRITING THEIR OWN REVIEWS OR PAYING PEOPLE TO WRITE REVIEWS FOR THEM. ITS FUNNY HOW ALL THE GOOD REVIEWS ARE ALL IN THE MONTH OF FEBRUARY? THERE WERE UNHAPPY CUSTOMERS PICKETING OUTSIDE. I NOTICED SICK PUPPIES WERE MIXED IN WITH THE OTHERS. PEOPLE WERE PICKING UP PUPPIES OFF THE FLOOR. I COULD NOT THINK BY ALL THE MOUTH DROPPING DISTRACTIONS. I JUST NEEDED TO GET OUR OF THERE! HOW DISGUSTING AND INHUMANE IS THIS PET STORE OWNER. NOT TO MENTION THERE WAS AN OFFICER IN THERE WRITING A REPORT ON THE FACILITY. I AM SURE THIS PET STORE WILL NOT BE OPEN FOR LONG. IF IT WAS UP TO ME I WOULD SHUT THEIR DOOR TOMORROW AND FIND GOOD LOVING HOMES FOR THOSE SICK PUPPIES. IT IS TOO OVERCROWDED IN THIS PET STORE AND THE DIRTY FILTHY ENVIRONMENT SHOULD EXPLAIN IT ALL! I BEG THE PUBLIC TO LISTEN TO MY PLEA AND DO NOT SUPPORT THIS BUSINESS.

Pros: None at all

Cons: SICK puppies, FILTHY store, employees are not educated

Ratings_icons Much Appreciation!

I have bought two dogs from pet stores within the last year. The first was from another place in town and I had to purchase dog food before I could take him home. Then, of course, I had to go and buy everything else needed for a new puppy. I felt so much stress- it was like bringing home my first child. My second I bought from pets in the city (A Yorkie Terrier- "Darling"). We were told by the owner that they were going to take her back to clean her up, and to my surprised when Darling returned she had a red bow in her hair, a little flowered dress, and her nails were cut! WOW! It didnt stop there either! We were given toys for her, a collar/ leash, some dog food she was used to, and were supplied with the owner's cellphone number. She told us she gives the number to everyone that buys her puppies and she gives them stuff because she lieks to know her babies are taken care of. WOW! Its nice to know we aren't alone in the care of our new puppies. We are beyond appreciative and this is a way to show how much we enjoyed our experience.

Pros: Great puppies/ service!

Cons: NONE

Ratings_icons Customers buy things...

MerryDay001

I have done my homework about pet stores, and this one has been around for six years or so. I think this fact alone proves that they must be doing something right or they would have been closed down or would have so many upset customers (No, not people that walk in and get upset- but ACTUAL customers, you know, the kind that buy things.) that they would have had to go out of business on their own. I have personally witnessed peoples assualt on the employees of this store, and no one deserves to be disrespected while doing their job. If you dont like it- you dont like it. Carry on........

Anyway... Love the store. I own a cat from this place, and a ferret from way back when they sold small animals. Great service and gotta love the puppies! Too bad my apartment doesn't allow them. My friends have a couple dogs from this place and they are so beyond happy with their furry family.

Pros: nice variety

TODAY MY FRIEND AND I WENT BACK THERE TO SEE IF IT WAS STILL OPEN TO FIND THAT IT IS EVEN WORST. THERE ARE OVER ONE-HUNDRED PUPPIES AND DOGS THEY ARE TRYING TO SELL AS PUPPIES IN OVERCROWDED GLASS PENS. THERE ARE STILL DOGS RUNNING AROUND THE STORE, THERE WAS EVEN A PILE OF feces IN THE BACK OF THE STORE, AND THEN IN THE CENTER OF THE STORE THERE WAS A PEN OF BULLDOGS AND I LOOK DOWN TO SEE A PILL OF BLOODY feces, AND I BRING IT UP TO THE LADY THAT IS CLEANING THE STORE, AND SHE TELLS ME THAT IT IS ONE OF THE LARGE BULLDOGS THAT IT IS COMING FROM AND I ASK HER "SHOULDN'T THAT DOG NOT BE WITH THE OTHER ONE'S THEN? IT CAN GET THE OTHER DOGS SICK!" SHE DOES NOT GIVE ME AN ANSWER SO I GO TO SPEAK WITH ANOTHER MAN THAT IS CLEANING THE STORE, HE IS MEXICAN AND CAN BARLEY SPEAK ENGLISH TELLING ME THAT HE KNOWS NOTHING ABOUT IT AND CANT DO ANYTHING THAT THE ASIAN LADY OWNS THE STORE! I THEN WALK TO THE BACK OF THE STORE AND SEE A LARGE BIRD CAGE WHERE THEY KEEP PUPPIES AND THEN NEXT TO IT I SEE THE LARGE DOGS IN THE BACK AND THE CAGE HAS DUST CAKED ON IT SO YOU CAN TELL THAT THOES DOGS NEVER GET TO RUN AROUND AND THEY ARE NOT PUPPIES !!!!! I THEN LEAVE AND GO OUT FRONT AND CALL ANIMAL CONTROL AND THE LADY TELLS ME THAT THE STORE IS UNDER INVESTIGATION, THANK GOD! HOWEVER MY FRIEND THEN WANTS TO GO BACK AND BUY A POOR DOG AND SAVE IT BECAUSE THE POOR THING LOOKS TO BAD, BUT WHEN WE TRY TO GO BACK IN THE ASIAN LADY YELLS AT MY FRIEND FOR CALLING ANIMAL CONTROL AND CALLS HER A FAT B****. WHY WOULD ANYONE WANT TO SUPPORT A STORE LIKE THIS OTHER THEN TO SAVE THOSE POOR DOGS , THIS STORE NEEDS TO BE CLOSED ASAP.

Cons: sick animals

Ratings_icons A Wonderful Pet Store

unleadedblues

I normally do not review businesses but I feel compelled to review Pets In The City. Pets In The City is a wonderful pet store. My girlfriend and I would often stop in just to see the puppies and play with them before purchasing our Beagle, Clarabelle. Each time we went in the owner was very kind to us and around the tenth visit we couldn't leave without our new puppy. We have had Clarabelle now for five months and we couldn't be happier with her or with the after sale service and support we have gotten. We consider the owner a friend and have watched on several occasions her treating other customers with the same care.

I browsed the other reviews here and was puzzled. This pet shop gets it right. How could a few reviewers here see it so differently ? How could they see conditions that differed so radically from what I observed every time I visited? And then I realized after reading a different post, that those reviewers were all PETA activists. How sad. Here's a pet store that gets it right with an owner who couldn't be kinder toward her pets and customers. The puppies are happy and healthy but PETA would rather lie and deceive in order to advance their extreme views.

I hope you stop in at Pets In The City sometime if only to play with the puppies. Be careful though, it will be tough to leave without a new friend.

Pros: Happy, healthy puppies from reputable breed

Cons: None
