I recently had the chance to visit Las Vegas with my husband, for a work convention...while he worked, I had the chance to take a quilt tour with some of the other wives. The store that stood out most on that visit was called Nancy's Quilt Shop. BEAUTIFUL store and they were actually in the Better Homes and Gardens Shop Hop magazine for 2007, so I was very excited to go there and see it for myself. It was everything the article said it was...and helpful, knowledgeable staff! Beautifully displayed fabrics and a really wonderful discount room.
The store that would run a close second for me was called The Christmas Goose. It was different in that it had a more "country" feel to it, though they did have all the newest fabric lines and brights. They also sold wonderful gift items and had the most incredible pattern area I have ever seen...sliding doors with pattern after pattern! This store had the friendliest, most helpful staff, too - they very obviously LOVE what they do!
The store that I know I will NEVER go back to was on the other side of the town, called THE QUILTIQUE. While it was a very lovely store at first glance - a riot of color and new fabrics - the sales staff there were VERY unfriendly, almost rude. I was never spoken to in the entire time I was in their store and several of the women I was with commented on the same thing when we left.
Fabric bolts were strewn over the floor of an entire aisle, as one of their employees was trying to help someone choose fabric. I could not venture down that aisle to look at fabrics, so missed that whole section. Bolt upon bolt of fabric was stacked on the floor behind their cutting area also, so customers did not have access to any of those, either.
At one point, an employer snapped horribly at an employee running the cash register, embarrassing her in front of paying customers (I was told by the employee later, that the woman was an owner). From the "upscale" look and feel of this store, and from the way the employees treat each other and their customers, it was apparent that this store is in it solely for the money.
I actually did NOT make a purchase there. I tried to purchase a fabric, but was told they only had it available for a packaged kit they were selling and could not sell me any. With as many quilt stores as Las Vegas seems to have in town, there is no excuse for rudeness, and my money will definitely go to the other stores next time. I do not intend to go back or recommend it to friends that may visit. Thank you. B. Joyce, St. Charles, MO
