My child attended the preschool for two years. Initially, we were in awe of the school??s impressive program results. During the second year, my child was mistreated by staff, which included exclusion, public humiliation and excessive time out (more than an hour!) As a result, my child felt traumatized and did not want to attend the school she once loved. I wrote to the headmaster in length to explain what had occurred. He did not respond for 18 days, and finally he remarked that he did not know what happened. As far as he was concerned, as long as my child could read, (top of the class in fact), all was well, and he tried to sell me a more expensive program.

Ultimately, we felt that the school really did not really care about us. It seems the prized Challenger program is more important than the students attending are. I wanted a nurturing environment for my child as well as good academics, particularly at such a tender age. Apparently, something Challenger is not willing to provide. In addition, I found that some of the teachers are definitely not up to the standard of a private school that boasts the highest credentials, some lacking basic common sense. Everyone wants their child??s first experience of school to be positive, towards the development of a lifelong love of learning. We left the school disenchanted with an unhappy memory of preschool that will always be with us. Yes, my preschooler reads, but at what cost?

My son currently attends the preschool at Challenger. He is eager to go and full of new information when I pick him up. I have watched his teachers interact with him and they want what is best for his educational career. It is a highly structured classroom and the children are constantly engaged in activity. I know that the education my son is currently receiving will set him on a lifelong quest and love of learning. The only problem? I can never put him back into the public schools because he will be so far ahead of his peer group!
