Everyone needs an honest mechanic - and these guys are defintely it!! Honest, fair, and competent is an unbeatable combination. After being ripped off for years by a BMW dealership, this is a a great resource, and would never take my cars anywhere else.

Good Service: My muffler was making my car sound like a Harley Davidson motorcycle. Now, my car is a bonanza for any auto repair place because there is always a HOST of things wrong with it at any time (it is a Ford Contour which is a terrible lemon of a car). I went in, he told me there was a bolt missing, fixed it for a reasonable price. I decided to go back and get a tune up, which was also pretty reasonable. Both times, I walked out with the work done, and my wallet intact. Decent place to get your car fixed.

I have been to dozens of mechanics in my life. As a single woman, I have been 'taken for a ride' by many of them. That all ended when I discovered Dons approximately 12 years ago. They have always exceeded my expectations with quality workmanship, fair pricing, and prompt service. A few years ago, I moved a significant distance away from Dons Because of this, I took my car to a local mechanic. They failed to accurately diagnose, and therefore, repair my vehicle. I took it to Dons and the problem is fixed. I learned a valuable lesson. Dons expertise is worth the drive. I'll never go anywhere else again.Honest, Fair Prices, Prompt.

I've been to see Louie twice now - first time he quoted a brake job 1/2 what another garage was quoting, and turned it around in 3 hours. Second time he helped me diagnose an ABS issue I was having with another car that no other mechanics, including the dealership, would touch. Thanks for the help! These guys are very solid - I'll be back.

Best auto shop and best kept secret in Las Vegas. Louie and Erik are honest and reliable, they have always treated us right and never overcharged-in fact when parts took a long time they made sure we were updated on each step. The place is always crowded with expensive American and European cars-obviously people trust them. We have a car collection including 2 Rolls Royce motorcars. One old and one new. Don's DI is the only place we'd take them.

I can't say enough about Luis. Everything he does is in the customer's best interest. He tells you exactly what you need, nothing extra. I TRUST HIM and I can't say that about any other place I have encountered. I personally drive 45 minutes just to get to him because I know he is the best. I will continue to bring my cars there, whatever make or model, because I know I can trust him with my car and my money. Incredible guy!

I took my car there and told them that I suspected the cat. converter to be bad. They obviously only checked the computer and didn't even check the cat because they claimed it was fine and wasted my money changing spark plugs, wires, cap and rotar that were all under a year old. Less than a week later I had to get my car towed to a garage because my cat. completely died. Maybe they should listen to their clients when they tell them what is wrong instead of blowing them off. I don't suggest that anyone goes there.

Response from this business:

In this case the car was showing that it had a missfire after checking the ignition parts we found that someone had installed low grade aftermarket tune up parts causeing the car to missfire and turning on the engine light. We did check the catt as she requested and it was not showing bad at that time. So we did not put one in . We only install what is needed. and try not to waste our clients money on un needed repairs.

I keep forgetting to review these guys. They show up when they say they will, they have the parts in hand, and they charge what they say they're going to charge. These days, that's totally 5 star material.

My experience at Don's was a nightmare. I have a 97 Jeep, nothing fancy. They had my car for over 2 months. I was never provided a written estimate and told abut 20 different things were wrong, none of them were the problem. I never knew what the problem was or how much it would cost until I went down to get my car and a HUGE bill of over 600.00 was dumped in my lap. They took my car to the dealersip without asking me. THey LOST my car. Just dumped it at the dealership and didn't tell them it was there. Driver left the keys in the ignition. They said they would pay for a rental car and left me stuck with the bill. The owner would not let me have my car unless I signed a release saying I wouldn't sue. They never kept in contact with me. I had to hound them and go down there to try to get any answers. I was even sent to the dealership to talk to them myself. I would not advise anyone to go there. The resulting repair was not complicated and an competent shop should have been able to do it in a few days not MONTHS. I've been ripped off terribly.

Response from this business:

This is un true we never colected a cent from this lady.Origanaly when the jeep first came in we thought it was a bad distributor. We put the distrbutor in and still had a problem So we refunded her the $300 she paid for the distributor. After three days of checking out this car some more we were unable to figuer out what was exsactly going on so we offered to tow the truck to the dealer to see if they could figer it out. She agreed and it took the dealer 6 weeks to figer it out. They had to call in a elctrical tech. out of Denver to figuer it out. We paid the $700 bill at the dealer and picked up her truck for her. When she came to pick up the truck she presented us with a $2100 rental car bill wanting us to pay for it and refused to pay the bill from the dealer. We decided it wasnt worth the troubleof dealing with this lady and gave her the truck at no charge but refused to pay the rental car bill. So im not sure as to how we ripped her off.she was in contact with the dealer and knows that they had her truck not us. The only reason we offered to send the truck over to thedealer was because we get a fleet rate from them and could save her some money.

I am writing on behalf of my boyfriend who is out of town. He is much too kind. He says, "I like Luis, he'll take care of it.." He has used Dons DI a number of times, but he keeps having to return for the same work. When he does, they seem to treat him well, but fail to deliver in a timely manner. They can do most work, but they can also take forever with some things. So, in this sense, I would not feel right to refer them..at least not at this point.

They are the best in the business. They can fix one or two things that other auto repair shops cant. They take the time to show me what's wrong with my car and what has to be done to fix it. They get the job done when they say they could.

The best. We needed completely new air conditioning in our car and it was done at a very reasonable price and right on time: No problems. The fact that we have shops that are MUCH closer to us and we attend Don's for EVERYTHING is testament to that. Thanks for all guys and keep up the great work.

I called around for cheap labor on a Clutch kit R&R..and that's exactly what I got - cheap. They are in a poor area of town that I wouldn't trust my nice car in. They will bump you back if a nicer car comes in. I drove my car off the lot and the WHEEL FELL OFF. The lug nuts were not tightened.
I will NEVER go here again

Took my wife's car in for brakes. Louie told me he wanted to see it on the rack before he could give an estimate. Louie called me when he said he would, diagnosed the problem, gave me an estimate. Work was completed on time, at estimated price. Very professional, I will be taking our other car in within a couple of weeks. Thanks Louie, and thanks Dons DI service.

Here's my 1995 mazda miata m edition problem before I took it to Don DI: been losing coolant, had the hoses replaced, a heater bypass, a new thermostat- $500 and it still had the problem that I took it in for. I brought my car to Don DI telling them the history of the car for the past two months. They said they would solve it and guaranteed their work. They said I needed a new radiator $450. A couple of days later i picked up the car and it was leaking coolant while still on their property. I was told it was just the overflow resevoir valve. I trusted them. A week later, my coolant disappeared, and my car was overheating again. I took it back reminding them that they guaranteed their work, and they told me last week you needed a radiator, now its a water pump that I need. Of course. Right. I didn't take my car in for a new radiator I took my car in to solve the problem with my coolant disappearing. New Radiator, my coolant still disappears!! Where's the guarantee the professionalism, the integrity, the honesty? Not here I am warning all who read this. Same old same old pieces of f**king sh*ts working here. Where are the competent honest people at? And how about doing things right the first time? Still searching for good car place in Las Vegas.

Here are my other avoid at all costs places: Integrity Collision

Overall, this shop has been good. I've had several vehicles worked on and only had one disagreement which may have been a simple error on their part. After being ripped off by many shops around town over the years, I was pleased to find an honest (so far) shop. I'll update as I get more feedback from clients that I referred to Don's D.I.

I had my "Volvo" serviced at this garage for years and they are "Experts"! The Mechanics are very Fair & Honest! I won't take my car to anyone else in Vegas! These guys put our local "Volvo" dealer to shame!

December 27, 2011

Dons is always busy - I think that says a lot. Dons is very honest, reasonable, and has real nice people to deal with. I have never had a bad experience bringing my vehicles in for service at Dons DI Auto and have been doing so for several years.

December 01, 2011

The problem was hard starting.Assured that a new fuel pump would fix it,one was installed for $400.00.Well,that didn't fix it.Went back and now the diagnosis was a bad fuel pressure regulator. One was installed for $200.00.That fixed it.So I paid $600.00 for a $200.00 job.Not what one would expect from a "professional" repair shop.

Moving from California to Vegas was a bit different, but looking for a good mechanic was even harder. But D.I. auto worked with me and gave me a good fair price, and they didn;t try to charge me crazy prices because I was a woman.
I went to work, they dropped me off and picked me up I tell my friends they are the greatest especially ask for Louie.. Each time they were a pleasure to work with.

July 23, 2011

Nice people and awesome service. They fixed my car just in time for my road trip. They even dropped me off at home and picked me up when it's done. I won't go anywhere else and I'll surely recommend them to my friends.

I brought my vehicle in for repairs on a Tuesday. After 1 week of continuously running back & forth, as well as $1100 and "further diagnosis" needed according to Louie -- vehicle still was NOT repaired correctly, back tail light had been broken and suddenly the brake lines were cut on the car?!

After receiving a second opionion from another garage, it was CLEAR that at least two of the repair Louie claimed were made to the car were not! Only one of the repairs was $425! I brought the car back and clearly pointed out there were NO new parts on the car - ONLY then did Louie refund my money, but only for this one repair!

Clearly these guys are a bunch of crooks that overpromise, but under deliver! They are friendly crooks, but CROOKS none the less!

I felt I had to write a review after going here. I came in without an appointment even and was able to get work done right away. The guys were fast and honest. I usually go somewhere else for reapairs as this place is not near me. I will however come back in the future even though this is not near me it is definitely worth the trip. The people are fast, friendly and reliable. Thanks for the great service!

March 06, 2011

great service, as convenient as it could get: sunday my car started but i couldn't the shifter to move out of "park" - so i'm stuck. the next morning, i walk to Don's and explain what happened. he actually came back to my garage to check the car out (granted i live 200 feet away). then he said he'd get my information and call me back, and have the mechanic come over and check it out.

they called about 20 minutes later, and he came over and manually shifted my car into reverse, and then drive, from under the hood, so i could move to the shop.

turns out it was an electrical issue, and they fixed the problem. i'm sure the dealer would have charged me for new parts, and inspection, and it would have cost a bunch to have the car towed there, but this worked out great. all i was charged was for an hour of labor - very reasonable.

my roommate also had a positive experience with these guys as he needed to get his brakes fixed. he mentioned they did solid work and the bill was reasonable too.

i would definitely recommend this guy and his mechanics

Outstanding work! My 1998 Honda accord didn't have the factory cruise control installed. My wife searched the local businesses on the internet and called Don's. They told her they could probably install the aftermarket cruise control I purchased somewhere else. They ran into some problems because of the car year and make. They somehow found out how to get it installed properly and it has worked great ever since. It was installed in June of 2010 and I traveled to North Dakota and South Dakota from Las Vegas and never had a single problem. They installed it professionally and I am quite happy with their work. I recommend having work done at Don's.

it all comes from trust! And I totally trust Don's. I was expecting a $690 bill for a new timing belt on my 2000 Subaru that's done 130K miles, instead they call and say it all looks new, everything looks good, the last owner's shop must have forgotten the sticker (or it fell off). Either way, I paid just $45 and still have peace of mind. Not many car shops do what's best for the customer in practice. Don's DI does. Stellar!

November 12, 2010

At first i saw the review on-line, looks good. Went there, told them the car problem and also check the alternator condition. The guy over the counter says it sounds like it needs a tune up... without diagnostic first? hmmm..
Just leave the car here and we will call you later.

A guy name Don or Ron "he was not clear" anyway he called me with the estimate $699.00, I said as long as the problem is gone, go ahead and do the work. He then says I personally guaranteed you that this will solve the problem.

Pick up the car the next day ,drove off the lot car runs like crap sluggish, fuel mixture problem. The same problem when i first brought it in. Talk to the tech, he said i just worked on what they told me to do. He did not bother to diagnose the car first..

Talk to the main guy there and mention about the guarantee, and he says "who called you and promise that". They play that i did'nt call you, was it Don? Ron?Jon? it wasn't me. Come on know how many people work there. This is BS! He replied why don't you leave it here and i have our tech take a look. Left it there again.

Nobody called me with any results nor estimate. Waited two days. Finally went there to check up on them. They reply "ohh" you here your car is ready, here's additional bill of $290. they worked on the car without calling me first nor my approval. Thay charge me almost $300 for one bad O2 sensor. (tech recommend other 3 to be replace as well).

I could have replace all 4 instead of wasting my money on tune up and other parts that was not cause of the problem. This is not what i call professional. They will make you think they are giving you low labor charge but they will get you with parts thats over priced.

Typical repair shop. Get your money one way or another.

I have used Dons DI Auto to service my MDX. The price was fair and the car has worked great. The service and staff are excellent. They even make my wife feel comfortable and she has never liked any auto repair places before. I have found their work on the car to be excellent.

My mother and I were often worried about finding a good repair shop that would provide us good service and honesty towards repairs and prices. And we Found it! Appointment times were always up held even if we arrived sooner they would be quick to attend to us. With the upmost respect and dedication all of our repairs were made in a timly manner. Since our first visit we personally recommend Dons DI Service to all of our friends and family.

I was recently in Las Vegas for a trade show . After a 2 day road trip from Oregon , my van started smoking just as I pulled into the hotel. After checking in , I went online and found this great business, as well as 2 other nearby shops. I called all 3, and got 3 different answers, and all agreed the van had to be towed, and at much different costs. It cost 45 dollars to tow , not 165 0r 210 as the other 2 places quoted. The shop was very busy and they inspected my van right away. within a short time, I was given an estimate of 513 dollars to fix the problem. I noticed the tow charge was not on the bill and mentioned that to the manager, Louis. He said he was including the tow because the repair was over 500 dollars. I agreed to the repair , and they kindly offered a ride back to the hotel, The car was ready the next morning and the again came to my hotel and picked me up. The car worked perfectly all the way home back to Oregon. When I got home I brought the car back to my mechanic for a checkup and to make sure all was ok. He said the repairs were performed well and the cost was very reasonable. Thank you very much Eric and Louis for going out of your way. I come to Las Vegas 3-4 times a year, and I will recommend you to my collegues there.

August 31, 2010

In late June I took my late model Jeep in for a stuttering while accelerating problem. After sitting in the waiting room for 6 hours I was told it was the distributor. The repair was done just before closing and I was hurried out. THey car was not test driven. I almost didn't make it home. Same problem. I took the car back on Monday morning and waited a few hours. THey said they would let me know the next day what was going on. I had to call them 2 days later. They still didn't know. On July 1 I went down to see what was up. I walke a rode a bus to get there. Louis, the shop manager offered to rent me a car. He said they would pay for it. 2 months later and much stess, hounding them for a clue as to what was wrong later I finally get my car and it wasn't anything they had told me about. I never got an estimate but the bill was $651 bucks. I was threatened that they would keep my car if I didn't pay even though it is the law to get a written estimate if the repair is over 500.00 and they already had 280 from me from the previous repair that wasn't the problem. Eric the owner refused to pay the rental . He offset the repair cost after the renal employee told him that he witnessed me being told the shop would pay my rent and no time limit was set. The rental cost was 1900 bucks. That leaves me stuck with paying over 1200 bucks that they said they would pay. RIP OFF ARTISTS!!!!! don't Go NEAR this place!

August 29, 2010

I'm so upset right now, it's Sunday and I drove up to see if my car had been worked on. It;s sitting outside with the window down totally unlocked and unsecured.

I was told it would take a day or 2 to install the timing belt on my Sonata and cover a few other things. That was a week ago.

My car has not been touched.

I have called several times during the week talking to Luis, just to get the estimate. Last I was told it would be done this Saturday.

I sure hope you guys step it up a bit, WHY is my car buried outside unsecured?

Dammit I'm so pissed right now.

Especially after reading all the great reviews.

August 03, 2010

My 21 year old daughter drove from northern CA with 4 college friends to Vegas on a Friday and had to leave on Sunday. About 50 miles away her AC went out (it was 114 degrees) Shops were closed and since their time in Vegas was limited I began an internet search from TX. I chose Don's because of the reviews and years in business.
I e-mailed them the situation before the shop opened on Sat. and received a prompt reply. Althought I stressed the urgency of 8-5 closed on Sun. to my daughter, she wasn't so prompt and arrived at Don's at 1 PM. They quoted her for refurbished compressor replacement, but called back saying it didn't fit and would have to get a new one at minimal additional cost and to be there by closing, at which time they discovered the new one did not work. She was told to call at 9 AM on Sunday, and in spite of trying to find one, another would not be available until Monday.
Her friends all had to find other ways home, she had to pay another hotel night, drive 9 hours alone and miss work, but I feel Don's did their best to help her in a limited time frame at a reasonable cost.

Pros: went above and beyond

Cons: unavailability of needed parts

July 09, 2010

Fast friendly staff and good mechanics. they pointed out i had a spark plug wire arching on my battery terminal and thats why my check engine light was on , when i took it to the last shop they just cleared the cod and it came back the same day Dons DI Service fixed the problem for good and i appreciate it thanks

Pros: Fast and Honest

Cons: None

June 20, 2010

I just used city review to select this place for auto repair. What a rip-off - not only did they keep my car for over 1 week to fix an oil and transmission leak BUT my gas got siphoned out of my car. After finally getting the car back - it is leaking fluid all over my garage floor. I'm not talking about a fancy complicated car engine - this is a simple 4 banger that they could not fix.

There is no security there if you leave your car overnight.

The people are nice but t that's not what I am paying for - Thank God I did not let them do any major repairs to my car.

I am chalking the $200 off as a bad experience and even if they offer to try to fix it, NO WAY would I ever leave my car there again.

Pros: good reviews on internet

Cons: who wrote those reviews

I have used this place to repair two of my cars since I found them back in December They have been on time and exsactly the price they said it would be.No hidden cost's at this place.Honest and friendly place.

Pros: Fast service

March 04, 2010

Three weeks ago, I took my Honda Accord to Dons Auto Repair on DI and Cambrigde. I have had oil leaks for a while and decided it was about time to take care of the problem.
I left my car with them for 3 days, the owner called me on the 2nd day and told me what my car needed to be done. I asked him if what they were going to do was going to take care of the leaks and I wouldn't have an oil leak any more. He told me that if I had a leak, they would take care of it and gave me a 1 year or so many miles warranty.
My car started leaking again after one week. I paid $546.00 for the work done (it included taking care of a coolant leak which also started leaking again). Yesterday, I took the car back, they kept it the whole day and night, and this morning I had to call to find out if my car was ready. The owner informed me that there was a different leak coming from the transmission and it was going to cost me over $600 more. No way I'm going to pay that much money and then have the same problem. I thought that I was dealing with an honest and knowledgeable place of business but according to this experience, I feel taken advantage of and would not recommend this place to anybody.

Cons: Problem not solved

January 19, 2010

Pros: fast and friendly

September 04, 2009

I found this service place and went with previous reviews from Citysearch. I was so happy to find that I wasn't let down. 1st the only con for me is this place is not close to me. I wish Don would open a place in the Northwest. Other than that after getting a $700 bill for a O2 sensor from the Chevy dealer last year I couldnt pass a smog this year for my 2002 Olds Sil. van. Not wanting to get robbed by a dealership again, I found this place. They checked out my car and gave me a fair price. I told them to go ahead with the work. It took 3 days, but they are busy. Lots of cars at this repair shop.(everyone must love 'em).anyways I got the call and come to find out, the bill was $30.00 LESS!!! than what they quoted me. Also I used the 10% off coupon from the website. This also included my car getting a passed smog test!!! It is so hard these days to trust someone from a dealership or repair facility. It seems that they don't have your best intrest in mind. It's more like how much money can I get from these idiots! Well this is NOT the case with Don's D.I. Auto, and for that I am thankful. I also have and will send as many of my friends I can to this business. The great service and fair prices warrant this.

Pros: Expert Service

Cons: Not a 1/2 mile from my house.

My F150 needed some work and I was hesitant to take it to the dealer since they are a ripoff. I dropped my truck off at Don's at 8 am and by 10:30 received a call describing not only the problem, but several other services that he recommended. At no time was I pressured to have the additional work done, I was just told what the situation was. The price quoted for the work performed was exactly what he said it would be, and my truck was ready when promised. Fair prices, honest place, friendly and easy to deal with. I highly recommend this shop for auto repairs.

Pros: Great service, Honest and trustworthy, very fair prices

Cons: none

Got a 30,000 mile maintenance done on my F-150 - they had it done in a couple hours for about a 1/3 the price the dealership was charging! Even filled out the warranty book when i came in to settle the bill. A good experience!

Pros: Great service and quality for a great price!

Cons: Limited space for parking - lot is full of cars.

Fantastic place to take your car. I was having shifting problems with my car and needed to have it checked out. I had it checked by the Volvo dealer prior to taking it to Dons DI. The dealer gave me a estimate that was just more than I could spend. I found Dons DI here on City Search and gave them a call. They checked my car for free. ( the dealer charged me) They called me and gave me a estimate I almost did'nt belive. It was much less than my prior estimate. They fixed my car the same day and it was just the amount they said it would be. My car shifts great now. Luis the guy I delt with is very frendly and easy to deal with. Give this place a try you will not be disaponted.

I brought my car to Dons Di for a simple service. Eric the manager called me a tried to sell me 2000.00 worth of work. I refused. When I went to pick up my car there was a big dent in the front fender. Eric denied doing the damage. I have spoken to other people about Eric and that business and they all have had bad experiences. My advice is when you need repair on a high line auto don't take it to a dirty gas station.

Pros: No Pros

Cons: Not trust worthy

I took my truck in because of power steering issues. The dealership wanted a lot of money, but Dons charged just a fraction of what the dealership was going to charge. Other mechanics in the recent past had also told me that all of my belts needed replacing. I told Dons to take a look at those, and replace them if necessary. Dons said only the belt that affected my power steering needed replacing, and all of the other belts were fine. The people there were very friendly. The only drawback to this place is that there are always a ton of cars out front, so it is difficult to park. With all of the cars they were working on, they had relatively quick turnaround. Dropped off truck at 3pm, ready for me to pickup around 10am the next day. I totally recommend this place, and I will go there again.
