Dr. Wastek delegates all of his duties to his Nurse Cheryl. She does the questioning beforehand and collects all the info (surprisingly about your medical situation, something that should be privileged information between you and your doctor). Once that's done, I waited for few minutes just to be surprised by Dr. Wastek??s showing up to give me a quick verdict: This is what I have. What I went through was an interrogation and not a consultation or even a conversation.
I never had a nurse sit with a doctor while he's doing his consultation. It was outrageous and made me very uncomfortable. I??ve never seen it happen. Dr. Wastek was talking to his nurse while rapidly answering the few questions I could ask him. He made me feel that my situation is not important by asking if I have some other issues I want to speak about. Getting answers from him was like pulling teeth.
Furthermore Dr. Wastek seems to suffer from Mysophobia. An obsessive-compulsive disorder describing a pathological fear of human contact to avoid contamination and germs. How can he then practice medicine? The whole time Dr. Wastek had his hands behind his back, stayed away from me. He has no Doctor patient bedside manners. He kept asking me: ??anything else?? I felt I was being intimidated. When I asked him to write the condition he refused to touch my pen. He kept spelling so fast. It was a rude moment. I respectfully asked him to slow down, sadly to no avail.
I asked the doctor about some medication I read about treating my condition, his answer while shrugging his shoulders was that he can sell it to me, stating: ??We can try it. We??ll give it to you?. It made me lose all faith in the drug. An important factor in the healing process.
In the end, when I was about to leave I started talking to Cheryl about my condition because I felt like this whole consultation was a joke as I did not get any answers about how the condition develops and how to stop its progression. Every source I checked speaks about some sort of diagnosis process or exam that one has to go through before a correct diagnosis can be made. Especially that skin conditions usually look alike. This guy without even closely examining my skin decided on a verdict. (I call it a verdict because I don??t believe it to be a diagnosis).
Unfortunately Cheryl was most of the time emphasizing insurance. That the condition I have is cosmetic and is not covered by insurance. I didn??t mind them asking me about insurance when I first called them to set up an appointment. I mean it was the very first question I was asked on the phone. I didn??t mind them asking me to pay my copay before I saw the doctor and you can see why they make you pay beforehand as the service is poor. I didn??t mind them making me sign all those legal disclaimers in case there was a problem with my insurance. But being told that my condition may not be covered and therefore being treated poorly based on that, THAT I DID MIND.
Sadly they somehow assume that one is incapable of paying for the treatment on their own. His attitude was that you need to learn to live with your condition. Both Cheryl and the good doctor kept telling me how lucky I was because this is not a life threatening condition like cancer. What a weird and horrible thing to say! It got to the point where I had to tell Cheryl, that having a good looking skin is as important as being healthy. One cannot advance in our society if they don??t look good. It is the main reason why many people go see a Dermatologist in the first place.
Based on the reviews I read today on this website, I am surprised no action has ever been taken against this Doctor to remedy all the complaints.

I have been seeing Dr. Wastek for over 5 years since moving to Las Vegas. He knows what he's doing and has helped me through many skin problems. His staff is wonderful, especially nurse Cheryl! I would recommend going to him if you have any sort of skin problem or condition.
I have been seeing Dr. Wastek for over a decade. I love that he listens to my concerns and actually discusses medications and options with me. I had tried several other dermatologists before I was lucky enough to see Dr. Wastek. He is always up-to-date on the newest treatments. If you happen to suffer from psoriasis, there is no better doctor in Las Vegas!!!
Dr. Wastek is one of the few dermatologists I could find here that didn't specialize in all things cosmetic. I trust him with my history of skin cancer, and now that I have had a recurrence, I was happy to learn that Dr. Wastek actually performs something called the Moh's Procedure, a cutting-edge (no pun intended) approach of removing certain types of skin cancer. I feel completely confident in the hands of Dr. Wastek, and highly recommend him to anyone with an actual skin problem, not just in need of cosmetic services (although he does some of that as well).
