Great doctor and humanitarian
I have spinal injuries that have caused me to be in pain every second of my entire adult life. I've been to specialists who say that there is nothing surgical to help me yet. Not until technology progresses. I always thought it was disgusting that so many people abuse or sell prescription meds that it makes it way too hard for people who truly need the assistance of medication to function in daily life. I'd been to several doctors since moving to LV in 1996. I'd bring my x-rays and explain myself. But all of them treated me like a criminal. It was disgusting. Dr. Buckwalter was the first doctor who actually cared that my life was constant suffering. I was always careful with my meds and we discussed it at EVERY appointment. It was simple because, I followed the directions!! They're written right on the bottle. It's shameful that he has to be blamed because irresponsible people disregard directions. A very caring doctor who really listens and empathizes is nearly impossible to find. Especially in Vegas. A select few unintelligent people who claim to be "victims" deserve the blame. They're the same type of people who would drive their car off a cliff and sue the auto maker. Most people know not to drive their car off a cliff. Yeah, that'll probably hurt or kill you. You have to use your brain. But I guess blaming someone else is easier than admitting you are the one at fault.
Drive carefully and don't stick your head in hot ovens, in case you didn't realize that can harm you too.
I hope Dr. B gets his appeal. Then I recommend he gives all patients an intelligence test before providing any treatments of any kind. It may sound insensitive. But the truth hurts.

take responsibilty
For those of you who lost a loved one I am sorry. But why is that you dont hold those that hurt themselves accountable for killing themselves. Why is it that you have to find someone to blame for someone elses actions? Did Dr. B make them come see him and chose him as their physician? Did he make their appointments every month and made certain they came. Better yet did he drive them to the pharmacy give them the money and make them fill their scripts and then made sure they abused them? No!!! He didnt!!!Do you seriously believe that the patient came in and told him they were addicts and abused prescription drugs, or that they had ODD once before? No they didnt so how is a doctor who sees you once a month for about 20mins supposed to know they have a problem unless the patient informs them. Addicts are liars and will do what it takes to feed their addiction. Why arent you pissed off at them for killing themselves? If you get a sickness and end up in the hospital and you dont tell your doctor what you have taken or if you have done any drugs and they try a treatment to help you get better and you die because the combination of medicine you abused and didnt disclose and the treatment the hospital gives you become lethal. Did the hospital kill you? No you killed yourself. Be pissed at those who where selfish and stupid and killed themselves, and not the doctor who was lied to by drug addicts. Thanks to those who cant take responsibility for themselves alot of people have lost a good doctor and a doctor's career is over.Congrats

Dr. Buckwalter
I am a patient of Dr. Buckwalters and am saddened to hear the news of his patients deaths. I had always considered him to be a physician who heard what I said and he always examined me during my visits. If anything I would interpret his extravagant prescription wtiring as an effort of kindness and empathy that was done without proper knowledge of pain management. It is terribly unfortunate that people died from overdoses and constipation and typifies the realties of drug addiction. Lets hope this brings awareness to physicians, patients and society as a whole that addictions are real and not just related to street drugs. We need to educate patients on the risks, side effects and uses for medications-including how hard it can be to stop taking them and what can happen if you mix them, how they work on your body etc.

Best MD in Town
Dr. Buckwalter is the best family practice doctor in town. I have been to many doctors in the area and they all try to sell me unnecessary therapies or order uncalled for labs. Doctors tend to buy equipment, and then pressure every patient into getting these tests that have nothing to do with the patients complaint. For example the patient complains of a broken arm and the doctors orders a throat cultures, just because he owns the testing equipment. Dr. Buckwalter did not do this, he listens to my reason for the visit and spent a lot of time explaining the medicine options I had; and how the medicine was to be taken. He also cautioned me on any possible side effects I might have from the medicine. I give him 5 stars.

The Town Pusher
I am so glad that he finally has been stopped. My former best friend is addicted to Lortab because of this so-called doctor, and my husband OD'd last month. My husband says the same things that all the rest of you happily-addicted bloggers say in your drug-induced, marathon ramblings: " Oh, Dr B is the best doctor I've ever had, he really cares about his patients" and "It's your own responsibility if you take too many pills". What about the woman that died, who initially came to him for help with her addiction, only to be prescribed the same active ingredient to which she was addicted? That turned out to have the same effect as giving a suicidal person a loaded gun. There are occasional cases in the media about doctors who turn out to be not really doctors at all. I strongly suspect Doctor (?) Buckwalter to be one of them. As a nurse who has worked closely with doctors for 8 years, I know that there are certain standards that MDs are, by law, required to meet in the care of their patients. Assessment, diagnosis, treatment plan, implementation and evaluation being the core components of this care. By Buckwalter's own admittance, the only element he was rendering to the patients about whom he was questioned, was treatment with narcotics and benzodiazepines.

Great Dr. - Bad Patient??
Dr. B has been my family physician for 2 1/2 years. I love this guy and the person that wrote 'did he give you extra meds for a good review' should be banned from the use of the internet!!! When you are a responsible person with a legitimate injury or illness, you do trust your Dr. Of any medication I am prescribed, I take to a name brand pharmacy that keeps track of all meds I take. They tell me if I am taking stuff that will interact with others and if I shouldnt be taking things together. Sure, if you are an idiot, you can go to Dr(s) and get meds, abuse them and blame someone else. How about the persons with the suits come forth and say 'you know, I never researched the medications, looked at side effects or did I take them all to the same pharmacy? Dr. Buckwalter has always been great and told me to stop taking something if he prescribes something different. People NEED to take responsibility for their own actions and just because we are in difficult economic times - Don't pick on the medical profession!! Dr. B is great and people that write negative reviews - maybe you've never been to him; do you even know him? You shouldn't throw stones if you're not sure about the thickness off the glass! There are more people that will testify FOR him than against him!

Great Doctor
I have been seeing Dr Buckwalter about a year now. I went to him because he was referred to me. I had major crippling pain and numbness in my neck and arms for 10yrs. My first doctor I had described my numbness to said (without doing any testing) that it was carpal tunnel syndrom from waitressing for 10yrs, so I went with that. For the last 1 1/2yrs the pain really started (I have an extremely high tolerance to pain), I finally had health insurance again and went to see Dr Buckwalter. I told him about my symptoms he checked me out prescribed me Loratabs 10 and Soma's and sent me to a neurologist. The neurologist did and electroid test for carpal tunnel and guess what I didn't have it, then they sent me for an MRI on my neck and found out I have Stenosis (arthritis) in my spine and impingments and portrusions in my neck C2 - C5 or 6 which was causing the numbness in my arms, and the stenosis is causing the pain. They them sent me to a nurosurgeon who said its not bad enough YET to warrant surgery but will be eventually. The the day before Easter 2008 I had suffered a severe anxiety attack (I have always handled stress and bad things even as a kid the most horrible) that caused me to have a seizure which attacks my neck and jaw all the muscles lock up like a rock (I was going through a seperation from my husband at the time which we worked through), I had an appointment set with Dr Buckwalter that Monday and me and my husband told him about it. He prescribed me Zanax I asked for only the .5mg since I don't like to take pills, no problem. So this stuff about Dr Buckwalter over prescribing medication I think is wrong, I think its the patients who don't take their meds like they are suppose to (I know people like that). Now because people (patients) can't be responsible I have to go with out my Zanax until I can find another doctor (I have already had one seizure today because of this mess with Dr Buckwalter) Thank you to those involved for putting my life in danger. I am hoping that my pain management doctor that I will see on Monday can help me before I wind up in the hospital for stroking out.
Have a great day and be responsible for your own actions
Melissa

if pain mgt. clinics would only treat patients
i have suffered from chronic pain for 11 years. i went to a local pain mgt. clinic for over 6 years in henderson. i moved to califronia for 3 months and when i returned, my old pain clinic said they no longer wanted me. they told me to go to my primary care doctor. i went to dr. buckwalter, who had never before prescribed pain medications for me. he referred me to a few pain mgt. specialists.
i cannot walk, drive, sit, nor stand for longer than 15 minutes. i have now been to 5 different pain mgt. clinics, some of them 2 - 3 times, and all tell me NOT TO CEASE TAKING MY MEDICATIONS. however, they don't want to prescribe and tell me to get the medications from dr. buckwalter.when i told one doctor that dr. buckwalter was suffering enough due to bad press and i didn't want to ask him for the 2nd time, he actually told me to find another primary care doctor to prescribe medication.
I have spent over 100k trying to fix my pain. i AM now FRIGHTENED TO GO TO PAIN MGT. DOCTORs because of the ill-treatment i receive at the last 6 i went to. I DON'T KNOW WHAT TO DO.
i think dr. buckwalter is one of the most compassionate doctors i have ever met. the stress and anxiety of being tossed from pain mgt. clinics is traumatizing.
i keep telling them i want TREATMENTS, that i want to be fixed. they shrug. i ask if they can recommend a doctor who will help me, they shrug. i don't know where to turn or what to do. for six years, i was being treated by what was allegedly one of the best rated clinics. when i came back from a trip to ca for 3 months, i think it's because i told them i wanted to try to cut back on medication. i told the physician's assistant that i wanted to see the doctor. that was when i was still a patient. i told him i was sick of being on meds, that i wanted one of several types of surgery that they can do for nerve pain.dr. buckwalter gave me time to find a pain mgt. doctor. he has a heart. every pain mgt. doctor I've been to has told me not to stop my medications.
i would gladly suffer the pain of withdrawals from medications if a doctor would treat my pain. i don't know where to go or who to turn to. three of the pain doctors told me that my case was too complicated. one said that they don't practice like Dr. fishell, who was the pain mgt. doctor who i went to for 6 years and who dumped me. even when i asked to be treated with non-medicine procedures, they turned me away. my pain is becoming unbearable due to anxiety. everyone knows that chronic pain gets worse with anxiety. please stop accusing Dr. buckwalter unfairly. have any of you suffered severe pain for 11 years, had your uterus and ovaries ripped out with promises that the pain would go away when you wanted to bear a child, felt the stigma and shame that go along with being permanently broken, been unable to work, unable to enjoy anything because you are always in pain?
maybe you shouldn't accuse if you haven't experienced pain.

Medical Board ACT NOW
This doctor must have multiple personalities. For those of you who like his bedside manners, who cares. The facts are the facts, when you go to a doctor for help , why on earth did he prescribe 310 oxycodene's to a girl in 11 days? She admitted to him she was addicted to these pills over a year ago, receiving Xanax for anti anxiety & Loratabs for pain on a monthly to semi-weekly basis . There is no possible reason (what kind of pain was this 114 pound girl in). This is a drug that should ONLY be prescribed by a Pain management doctor, it is way to strong for a 21 year old girl.

Dr. Buckwalter: Compassionate, good heart, honest, and listens!
Did anyone stop for a moment and think that the person at fault might be the patient and not the person prescribing the medication? Our family has been seeing Dr. B for several years now and we have and will continue to see him for all of our medical needs until he retires.
The problem here is that everyone has been reading the papers and those who don't know him as a physician sees him as a bad drug dealer who kills his patients. Well read through the lines for crying out loud. Did you ever think that the person taking the medication becomes overly addicted and they just can't help themselves because maybe it makes them feel good or it just eases their pain. My mom, dad, and husband have been seeing Dr. B for pain management now for several years and have not over dosed by any means. We like to call that controlling our pain and knowing when to stop. SELF CONTROL people that is all it takes. If you can't control your own actions, these people only knew to blame someone other than themselves...unfortunately it happened to be the doctor, what an easy target. So the economy goes down hill and all these people care about is letting their doctor go down with it too so everyone else survive the demanding needs of CASH. In lamen terms anyone who is a drug addict will target a doctor. They will manipulate the system until they get what they want.
I am sorry for all the loses that have occurred, but it is highly unlikely that the blame should be put to Dr. B. The ones who should be put to blame with evidence because they are dead, are those who abused the drugs. I now look at my families prescriptions and no where on there does it say please abuse me. It has specific directions and details as to what that person should take in one day.
The parents of those who died need to take a look back down memory lane and start to put the tracks together of their children and notice the signs of addiction. Dr. B can't control someones intake, he can only give proper direction. If the patient chooses not to follow (like those who passed on) then indeed, they are addicted and Dr. B has no control over that with the exception of stop prescribing. However, if the patient shows no signs of addiction when seen by the doctor, then Dr. B has no other choice but to prescribe.
All of you need to stop putting blame to someone else to come to terms with your healing process. Just accept what has happened and move on in life. Maybe a shrink could help you in this trying time.
Dr. B. If you are reading this, then you know that your patients have a good found loyalty in you. You are a wonderful doctor and no one can or should take that away from you. Your bedside manners are impossible to beat by any other. Those who read the newspaper and pass judgement on you, have never been seen by you...don't listen to them. They only know what they hear and don't take both sides into consideration. We have never had any problems with you since our very first visits. Please speak up and don't let them run you over.

he should have his license revoked!
I work in a pharmacy and I have seen first hand what happens to people that get hooked on the narcotics prescribed by him. They become needy, rude, pushy addicts. It's amazing that more people like the poor girl in The Sun article from 10/15 haven't died at the hands of this mad man. And if you are in so much pain that you need all of these drugs that he ALWAYS prescribes, you shoud go to a PAIN MANAGEMENT doctor not a PRIMARY care doctor. He is practicing out of his scope by prescribing meds the way he does. BEWARE! You may become a narcotic addict by going to him!!

Beware!
Dr. Buckwalter is happy to write scripts and give out samples even if it kills you. I know. He killed my son and my daughter-in-law and has caused friends to have seizures through his unending medications. See newspaper article in Wednesday, Oct. 15th Las Vegas newspaper to see what this "wonderful doctor has done to many people." I suggest you read the article or contact the writer, Marshall Allen at 259-2330 before you see the "Good Doctor".

It's about time
The reviews in the paper are correct about about city having a huge problem in Las Vegas with doctors over prescribing narcotics to patients, who they damn well know dont' need them, and Dr. Buckwalter is no exception.
I turned two doctors in already to the AMA as well as metro, because of doctors like Buckwalter over prescribing a ridiculous amount of prescriptions to my daughter, simply because she's addicted... My daughter was a patient of Buckwalter about two years ago, and she only stopped going to him because I told her I turned him in, therefore she was afraid to go back to him.
He simply asked her what she was there to see him for. She told him she had pain in her neck because of a car accident. Without any questions or testing, he prescribed her a ridiculous amount of Oxycontin, Xanax, and Soma.
There is an episode on "Intervention" about a woman from Las Vegas with a prescription drug addiction. Her husband said she is on the DEA list, but in the past five years she has seen over a hundred doctors, and most of them will give her what she wants... These addicts are good manipulators, but it's up to the doctors to "prove" the person has a valid medical reason, or not....

My favorite doctor
I have several bulging disks in my back and other doctors have told me that surgery is a last resort. But they're not willing to help me with the pain. They prescribe physical therapy (30 minutes of relief, but nothing lasting) and a few Lortabs. Then they blow me off and stop returning my calls. I don't know if Dr. Buckwalter has experienced this kind of pain himself, but he is so compassionate. My job is very physically demanding, and with his help I have been able to work. Other doctors seem terrified to prescribe anything that would help me with my pain. It's chronic, and I'm hoping I'll never have to get that "last resort" surgery. Seems to me that everyone I know who's had back surgery came out in worse shape than when they went in. No thanks! Without Dr. Buckwalter I don't know what I'd do. Honestly, what is a person with chronic, severe back pain to do without pain meds? I refuse to believe that learning to breathe correctly will take away the pain.
Anyway, the staff is always very nice. Thank goodness they usually don't weigh me (a huge plus). They did weigh me once, but that's it. Although he's a very busy doctor, he always has time to listen. And he always says, "That's a good point". So many other doctors take the attitude that if I'd just shut up they could treat me for what they assume is ailing me. I'm just being pesky by telling them the details. Dr. Buckwalter never, ever treats me that way. I guess there have been people who used Dr. Buckwalter to get their fixes. There are always bad apples who ruin things for everyone else. I'm so tired of suffering for other people's greed! Whether it's the investors who looted the real estate market, the bankers' greed that's costing at least half a trillion dollars in this bail-out, etc. (where'd that come from? Social Security?) Now some greedy jerk is trying to cost me my favorite doctor. My pill bottles never read "take as many as you can". I follow the instructions. Isn't that simple common sense? I don't have a death wish, so I don't overdose myself. I get enough pills every month that if I wanted to take the whole bottle on the way out of the pharmacy I could kill myself. That doesn't interest me.
How can a doctor be held responsible for someone who doesn't follow the instructions he gives them? How many of us will be forced into medical retirement when we can't get help with our pain? And this is all because a drug addict tricked Dr. B into giving him lots of drugs, and now wants money for nothing. People need to take responsibility for their own actions.
Once I ran out of my prescription and had to go to the ER at Sunrise. I wasn't able to get an appointment w/Dr. B for over a week, so I was in a lot of pain. The ER doc was treating me like a criminal, interrogating me as if I were some derelict with track marks. I had even brought the documentation that I had all those bulging disks, but he didn't even look at that. I didn't even have the symptoms of an addict except the runny nose, but it was allergy season and it was icy cold in the ER. Other doctors treat you like an addict if you have pain. Their minds are made up before they even have all the facts. That's not very scientific.

One of a Kind
I have to admit that I have never been a fan of any doctor in the past, but Dr. Buckwalter has, thankfully, at last offered me the health care and professionalism that I was convinced had become extinct. I am by nature, or some kind of genetic disorder, completely ill at ease when it comes to Doctors and their officesthis is still true with the exception of Dr. Buckwalter.
He is an incredibly knowledgeable physician and happy to answer all questions at any length. A surprisingly pleasant Doctor, actually. It's clear that he truly cares and enjoys the work he does. He has never rushed meor better, my incessant questioningand has always provided me with the information I wanted, needed and expect from a doctor. He also is persistent with following up regarding the improvement or change since my last visit. It's nice to know that he takes into consideration past status and actively applies it to your current condition.
I find him thorough, precise and personable beyond measure. I'm not being over-diagnosed, ignored or pushed asideand he doesn't terrify me!
His offices and waiting room are pristine and welcoming. I love the fact that I don't feel like going to the doctor will end in my acquisition of 12 new and exciting viruses.
His staff has always been accommodating and reliable. I see that some complain that they don't answer the phone, but I always receive the promised call-back within the day.
It is next to impossible for me to miss work and I am grateful that early morning appointments are available AND seen to ON TIME. I have never waited more than five minutes past my appointment time to be seen. Miracles still take place, apparently.
I'd really like to thank him for being the kind of doctor I would have previously bet massive amounts of money, didn't exist.

DIsappearing Reviews
All of the negative reviews disappeared. Isn't that interesting. I found him to be very caring and concerned. I only went to him when I had strep and bronchitis. However, my husband was given painkillers that should not have been mixed and almost died. The pharmacy is as much to blame. I wonder how long this review will be posted before it disappears.

Good doctor, people need to learn how to be proactive patients!!!
The new offices are beautiful, very clean and spacious. The front office staff is not very nice, but I'll put up with them anytime for this doctor. Very hard to get an appointment, since the people up front don't answer phones during bussiness hours and don't return calls after one leaves a message.
The doctor is very nice, never rushes you out of there, he will examine you if you so request, he specializes in listening to you and considering whatever symptoms you have to make a diagnosis and prescribe the right medication. Of course, if people lie or don't talk to him, you make his job harder and won't get the right thing to be treated with. I like supplements and natural cures and I bring this stuff up to him and ask his recommendation and he'll explain how everything acts in the body, the chemistry of the supplements and the two routes to take for a certain problem: a prescription drug or a supplement, and he'll let me make the decision, because I own my body and that's called INFORMED CHOICE. To the people out there complaining, please educate yourselves about your health, your health concerns and learn how to be a proactive patient instead of a quiet corpse that expects him to guess what hurts you and decide how to treat you based on nothing (since you don't provide any information).
For those doubtful about trying this doctor, give him a chance, specially if you like to educate yourself about your body, your health and concerns beforehand, then you'll get him to give you an expert's advice.

CARING DOCTOR
He cares about his patients. He will help you and not make you wait if you need to come in, even if it is last minute. He does not just give out prescriptions unless needed, and he will monitor you to make sure it is still needed. People that have a drug addiction, will have a problem no matter what doctor they go to. If they don't get it from one they will get it from another. He is a GREAT doctor, and only wants to help his patients. Stop lying about him!!!

One of Nevada's Best Family Physicians
I have read many of your reviews, negative & positive. I actually know a few people that have claimed to have gotten drugs from the good doctor. Of course, they were obtained by lying about their condition. Why is that we blame the doctors for everything. Dr. B, in my experience, is one of the most sensitive and capable in town. He takes the time to assess your condition when others push you along, he assists you with medication to help with your condition and works on a treatment plan to help recovery or coping when recovery is not an option. He is not a drug dealer. That is once again some person trying to blame the doctor when the liar patient is the one with the problem. I would recommend Dr. B to anyone, he care for all of my children and both my spouse & I. When I was ill, he even went the extra mile to rule out conditions that could be the causes to ensure that he was certain of the diagnosis.
Oh you foolish blamers....solve your own family problems and your own addictive behaviors. Dr. B is a good doctor perscribing where patients complain. I have seen him refuse guys in the office trying to get more drugs and making a "stink" about it. Dr. B was both descreet and sensitive to this person. They were not, likely due to their addiction they had long before they were probably lying to Dr. B to get the drugs in the first place. Remember, pain is subjective and the doctor can only but trust the patient until they exert strange behavior or abuses.
Keep up the good work Dr. B, you are appreciated and valued.

Good Doctor
I've been Dr. Buckwalter's patient for 4 years and have had no problems with him or his staff. He does write prescriptions easily but only those needed. It's not hard to get an appointment, usually within a day or two and waiting room time is minimal. He's been patient with me, takes time to listen. He's not a hands-on doctor, that's my only reservation.

Wonderful Doctor
I have been seeing Dr. Buckwalter for almost 10 years. If it weren't for him, I would be completely disabled today. When I had emergency back surgery the neurologist refused to prescribe any pain meds. After a very painful back surgery, the surgeon told me to go to my family doctor for pain. It's been 11/2 years and am still recovering and Dr. Buckwalter has given me my quality of life back. He asked for all of my reports and prescribed as necessary. Most of you that don't like my dear Dr. sound like you are doctor shopping for your meds. Buy on line instead of blaming Dr. Buckwalter for your problems. He also has a wonderful referral list and has referred me to the best neurologist, the best neurosurgeon, and the best cancer specialist. Some of these comments are just plain mean! I love Dr. B.

Good Doc
I have been going to Dr. B. for almost 4 years. He was able to diagnose and resolve a problem that I was having that turned out to be an injury and not a disease or illness as others had suspected. He always spends ample time listening and discussing possible options. As for the prescriptions, he is no different then any other doctor in this town including Specialists who are willing to pass out any samples they have including Blood Pressure and Anxiety meds. I like the fact that I can discuss different medications with him and that he is open to options. Develop a relationship with your pharmacist as they are the experts on prescription meds.

Dr. Kevin Buckwalter
Best Dr. I have had in years. He cares about me while keeping a full day. He takes the time to find out what is wrong no matter how long it takes me to describe it. Great doc.

Dr. B!
Dr. Buckwalter is a VERY nice Doctor...every time I go in to see him he actually gives me a chance to tell him exactly what is going on with me, without cutting me off like most Doctors. I NEVER feel rushed or unwelcome in the office, and all of the nurses are just as friendly. Granted he does tend to hand out prescriptions quickly....I would rather have a Doctor who gave me something to help me feel better, than waste my money and time (like at a quick care) and tell me to just go home and take some tylenol. Thanks Dr. B!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Good Dr
Dr. B. is a great doctor who seems to know EVERYTHING. He is very busy and is usually double booked. It is very hard to get in if you get sick last minute but if you can hold out, he is a great dr.
