Middle of the road

by Helen D.

I have been to some really great steakhouses, but this really isn't one of them. The ambiance and the service are both great but the steak, well, it just isn't. If you are looking for a romantic dinner spot I would recommend it. If you are a steak fanatic you will be sorely disappointed (as I was). They also need to spruce up the side dishes because they are totally unimpressive.

Excellent Sunday Brunch

by Cherilyn A. | insider_guru Insider Guru | Rank: 340

Although it's located at a mediocre casino, the steakhouse @ circus circus is absolutely the best place I've ever eaten. You have to try the Sunday Brunch buffet (with a reservation). The food is absolutely fresh and wonderful. They have very fresh seafood such as oysters, crabs, shrimp, etc. They have an omelette station where they make your omelettes for you. You can also order various meats made to order such as filet mignon, lamb chops, and steaks. The dessert station is wonderful with fruit tarts, chocolate covered strawberries, and a lot of others. The service here is great. The servers are very attentive and professional.

Best Steak House in Nevada

by Rich F.

We have been to The Steak House several times and always enjoyed the steaks and service. The prices are reasonable for such a first rate place. It is a paradox that such a fine restaurant should be in Circus Circus. We will continue to go.

Great Steaks

by Mindy M. | insider_guru Insider Guru | Rank: 546

This is one of my favorite Steak Houses in Las Vegas and usually the only reason I go to Circus Circus. It is a classic restaurant and finely decorated. The steak was very good and at a reasonable price for a quality steak. I will eat at this steak house again.

This may be a kid's playground but it's an adults restaurant. The steaks, seafood and chicken dishes are wonderful and cooked to perfection. One of the best in Las Vegas! Prices are reasonable too.

Best Kept Secret in Vegas

by John D. | insider_expert Insider Expert | Rank: 3,583

This is a 5 star steak house that gets very little recognition due to the casino it is associated with. If you want to get a high end steak at a very reasonable price, this is the place to go. I have eaten at other steakhouses in Vegas. The Circus Circus Steakhouse has equivalent food for a much more reasonable price.

This at Circus Circus???

by Scott C. | insider Insider | Rank: 32,199

WOW! That is all I can say. Get past the ankle biters and rude kids and gamblers and you have a classy resturant in a not so classy casino. The decor and aroma is wonderful. Open air kitchen in the center so you can see, hear, and smell the cooking. Dinner for two: Appletini, Classic Martini, Sauted Mushrooms, Halibut and Porterhouse came to $108 with tip. This place is not afraid of portions. The dinners came with vegetables (aspargus this night) and a choice of Black Bean Soup or Garden Salad and Baked potato, Garlic Mashed Potato or Rice Pilaf. They offered the desert cart but with these portions...who can last that long.

PROS: Portions, quality, service, value
CONS: Walking past rude patrons and rude children.

Best kept secret in Vegas.

by Jim S. | insider Insider | Rank: 31,512

If you can drag yourself past all the kids and mustiness of the Circus Circus Hotel, you will find one of the best steak houses in Vegas. The Steak House is a Zagat award winner many times over and serves dry aged prime beef cooked over a mesquite grill. Another little known fact is that they have one of the best Sunday Brunches in town at a very reasonable price.

Prime price for a non prime steak!

by gwallace000

I looked at all the reviews before making a reservation and thought some of the negative reviews had to do more with price than the quality of the steak. Let's make this perfectly clear for anyone searching for quality beef first, price and service second. There is a reason you do not see Prime in the name of the restaurant. While this Steakhouse may have received many positve reviews, take it from my experience this is select or choice beef. It is certainly not Prime. The price however is Prime. I have without question had better steaks grilled on my home grill and consistently have gotten better steaks at Outback. If I am going to pay $44.00 for a Porterhouse, their 'Signature' steak, I expect a Prime steak. I did pay $48.00 for a New York Strip at Mortons in St. Louis a month before Vegas and you know are definitely getting a Prime steak at Mortons. I elected this restaurant to avoid the national chain steakhouses. I would recommend the reliable Ruths Chris, Del Friscos or Mortons chain restaurants or look for Prime in the name of the restaurant. Rest assured I will never make the mistake of going to "The Steakhouse' ever again. Cannot express the disappointment of the steak! Grissle, tough...................... aggravates me to even think about it. Do yourself a favor and don't go here unless service is all you care about. Service was excellent.

Pros: Service

Cons: Not a Prime cut of beef, tough, over priced

Not a good value

by lvfood

I read the online reviews and decided on the Circus Circus Steakhouse because the reviews stated the steak is good and the prices are reasonable. I was surprised to see prices of ~ $40 per item. It was a bit more than what I was looking to pay but hung in there expecting quality steaks. I got the Porterhouse and my wife got the NY Strip. The steaks were served with rice and veggies. I thought the steaks were overcooked and overall the steaks were not that soft or juicy. The quality is better than that at a place like Outback but well short of my expectations especially at the price. I've cooked steaks on my grill that were far better.

Pros: Friendly Service

Cons: Average Steak, Pricey

Great experience 3/4 of the times

by Squid42

Circus Circus Steakhouse is not what one would expect when you think of Circus Circus Hotel. My wife and I have ate here four times, with only one time not being as good as we hoped. The NY Strip and Rib eye have both been very good, and prices are quite reasonable considering the other alternatives. The cooking area is located in the center of the restaurant with glass partitions all the way around it so you can watch the chefs in action. The dining area is moderately lit which makes a fairly romantic experience. Each time we have ate here it has been busy, and we had reservations. We have not encountered a problem with over abundance of kids that seems to be the norm for the rest of Circus Circus hotel. Overall, this has become of our choices places to go to when we visit Vegas.

Pros: Good Food and Service

Cons: Maybe lacking consistency on food quality

A dying breed of steakhouse, won its last award in the last century

by coloradotodd

The Steakhouse at Circus Circus was very crowded when I dined there on 12/27/07. In spite of it being just after Christmas, Las Vegas was very crowded this year, and Circus Circus was filled with families, which means lots and lots of children running around. This is (or should be) atypical from what you expect to see in Vegas, but it seems like too many people still buy in to the failed "family friendly" Vegas ad campaign of years past. Regardless, The Steakhouse couldnt give me a dinner reservation until 9:30 p.m., but they did seat me promptly then, and the place was packed until we left. Its decor, which includes dark wood and dark green walls, tries to give the impression of an old school steakhouse, but I found it dated and in great need of a makeover. That is probably the snob in me talking, who prefers the dark wood decor at Smith & Wollensky or Del Frisco's much better. Frankly, for its audience, many of whom are probably guests at Circus Circus Hotel and Casino, the decor is more than acceptable. The menu at The Steakhouse is traditional, with soup and/or salads, basic cuts of beef, and several dessert selections. My two guests and I all opted for steak entrees, choosing the porterhouse, the filet and the ribeye. None of them were properly cooked - two were underdone and one was overdone. A complaint to the waiter resulted in him removing one of the entrees from our bill. Even if they had been cooked correctly, they still only tasted fair. Our salads were plentiful in quantity, but the blue cheese dressing tasted heavy on the mayo, resulting in one of my guests getting sick at 4 a.m. The desserts were both hearty and tasty, and you would be safe to try anything chocolate. For the price, The Steakhouse is a good value, as any other traditional steakhouse in Las Vegas will be more expensive. But if you are wanting really high quality food, or not wanting to have to walk through a busy playground to get to your restaurant, go somewhere else.

Pros: good value for families or those without high end tastes for steakhouses

Cons: average food quality, lots of kids to get through to get there

Decent

by chabes

The service here is very good and very welcoming, my partner and I shared the king crab legs as a starter, and they were nothing short of fantastic. We both had steaks and both felt the steaks were a little *too* smokey, we ordered them on the rare side of medium rare. They were a little too charcoal on the outside but the center of the steak was cooked to perfection.. possibly they are cooking the steak too hot and fast to get such a charred outside. It could have been better, but overall the night was good. A little on the expensive side..

Pros: Crab legs and service

Cons: Price

Great Steakhouse - Consistently

by lkoesterer

I've been to The Steakhouse at Circus Circus at least three times while visiting Las Vegas over the past 10 years. Each time has been excellent. I've gone with large groups (more than 10) and a smaller group. It was an unexpected dark, quiet oasis amidst the flash and noise of the casino. The food was excellent, the ambience was great, the service outstanding. I'm planning to go back when I'm in Las Vegas again.

Pros: Great food, great ambiance

Cons: It's in Circus Circus

Good Steak Value for the Strip

by habitez

We ordered the crab legs for an appetizer and although they were good they were not any better that the Wynns Buffet ones.
My significant other got the porterhouse (which is their specialty and recommended by us) medium-rare and was very happy with it. It is your basic steak- no intricate flavor- you are paying and receiving the meat. It wasn't super soft, but it was a formidable steak.
I ordered the filet mignon medium-rare which is what I always order. My steak was short of terrible. I've had better steaks at Outback. However, I really thought it was a cooking error so I told the waiter. My steak was charcoaled where it tasted like I was eating just burnt meat straight of a someone's backyard grill and was pretty tough for a filet mignon. Waiter told me this is just the way a wood burning grill tastes. I told him that my SO's had the grill lines he was speaking of and that it didn't taste like charcoal. He then pushed a prime rib on me- seriously, asked me what I would want then he suggested a prime rib and I was unsure and he went off to go get it for me in less than 3 minutes. Now, I wouldn't have had a problem with it if he thought it really was a good choice considering my tastes. But, if someone likes the lean-ness of a filet mignon I don't understand how you can suggest the prime rib. It was alright, but, it was nowhere near the top 10 or 20 steaks Ive had. I didn't say anything again because I didn't want to make a fuss.

We had the porterhouse, prime rib, Alaskan crab legs, 2 soft drinks, no dessert- after tip it was $135.

My overall opinion for me is that this is a do-not-return. However, it is still a great value for steak on the strip. I suggest you stick to something fattier for the taste and to withstand the wood burning grill. If this is something like a magical 25 yr anniversary and you are into the whole experience then I suggest you try somewhere "nicer".

Pros: porterhouse, dark ambience, service was attentive

Cons: kind of a boring steak

SHOULD BE VOTED WORST STEAK ANYWHERE!!!!!!1 HORRIBLE. SOMEONE NEEDS A COOKING LESSON!

by desertbarb

We should have trusted our instincts....and ran out the door!!!

I don't know how in the world they got voted Best....worst steak ever. Tough tough tough....and COLD!!!

Felt stupid leaving a tip. Do yourself a huge favor....pay more and go somewhere else. Food especially the steak was horrible and cold. We get a better steak at sizzler....NO KIDDING. And I felt responsible because I told everyone that it was rated very high. Needless to say....my husband was VERY UNHAPPY!
Do yourself a huge favor..........CANCEL YOUR RESERVATION.

ONLY GOOD THING WAS THE HUGE COSMOPOLITAN IN THE BAR... DRINKS WERE GENEROUS. THAT IS TRUTHFULLY THE ONLY NICE THING WE CAN SAY ABOUT THIS SO CALLED "STEAK-HOUSE". horrible horrible horrible.

I CAN ONLY HOPE IT WAS AN OFF NIGHT. CUZ IT WAS A REALLY BAD STEAK. MY HUSBAND HAD A HUGE SLAB OF TOUGH RIB EYE (IS THAT POSSIBLE??) AN D I OPTED FOR A SMALL FILET THAT SEEMED BURNT ON THE OUTSIDE AND COMPLETELY RAW ON THE INSIDE. NOT RARE....RAW. AND COLD. GROSS.

WAITER WAS NEVER AROUND. SAT OUT WINE AT A TABLE NEXT TO US TO KEEP IT OUT OF THE ISLE, SO OUR GLASSES WERE NOT KEPT FILLED.

DESERT AFTER THE DINNER WAS NOT AN OPTION. WE GOT THE HECK OUT OF THERE. ICK!

Pros: BAR DRINKS

Cons: HORRIBLE STEAKS

Excellent steaks. A simplistic review but what else do you need to know?

by rbadan

My 16 year old son commented that this restaurant looked like a set from the movie "Goodfellas" with its 1970's ambience. But the surroundings take a back seat to the excellent, tender, flavorful steaks served in this oasis within the Circus Circus Hotel/Casino. The accompaniments are fine, nothing special, but the steaks were worth the trip. All five people in our party ordered the small filet mignon. Prices were not bad for Vegas, about $40 pp, excluding liquor.

Pros: Great steaks.

Cons: None.

classic steakhouse ambience, good deal

by chefcho008

This place is a great deal, especially by Vegas standards. Forty dollars will get you a full meal-- bread, soup or salad, and steak with sides (carrots and baked potato in my case). The salads were actually very good. My only complaint was about the steak itself-- it was overly charred, making the outsides black and bitter (the grill guy needs to control his flames better) and it WASN'T SEASONED!!! Food needs salt!!! If the grill guy only used salt and controlled his flames, the meal would've been a perfect steakhouse meal.

Pros: classic steakhouse ambience, great deal

Cons: overcharred and underseasoned steaks!

Excellent Food and Service!

by hurricane_hannah

After talking about going to The Steakhouse in Circus Circus Casino during our last 4 years of visits to Las Vegas we finally went in July 2007. We found the food to be excellent along with the service. The only glitch was that both of our Petit Filets came out medium well to well done when they were ordered medium. Not tough by any means but not medium as ordered. I would order medium rare next time. The lobster tail was outstanding. Overall it was a bit pricier than we expected but still worth the cost. The one drawback to the restaurant is having to run the gauntlet through the Circus Circus Casino to get to the restaurant. They need a secluded entrance to avoid the masses in the casino. Otherwise, would definitely recommend The Steakhouse and would return when in Las Vegas.

Pros: Great food and service!

Cons: Running the Circus Circus Casino Gauntlet!

Used to be the best -- gone downhill.

by dabbler_mn

I've eaten at The Steakhouse every year, on my annual trip with friends to Vegas, for the past four or so years. I chose to eat there the first year based on various reviews and recommendations, and it was a *fantastic* steak -- so good that I couldn't imagine passing it up to try another steakhouse.
Unfortunately, at our dinner this year, I ordered the same thing I always do (the ribeye), but it didn't hold a candle to the ribeyes I've had at The Steakhouse in the past. Previous steaks were immense, flavorful, juicy, and prepared exactly right -- I order medium rare. This year's steak was overdone: not quite well-done, but much farther from rare than "medium-rare" should allow. It wasn't as flavorful, wasn't juicy, and was noticeably smaller than ribeyes from previous years. The salad, breads, vegetables, and so forth were every bit as good as before, but...it's "The *Steakhouse*," not "The Salad And Side House." One expects Steak.
I am disheartened. I won't be able to spend the time between this most recent trip and my next trip remembering the delicious, delightful slab of meat I had remembered from previous years, and looking forward to my next visit to The Steakhouse. Instead, I'll have to scour the 'net for reviews and trip reports, hoping to find my lost ribeye paradise.

Any suggestions?

Pros: Outstanding service. Old-school steakhouse ambience. Good salads, sides. Passable steak.

Cons: Not the great steak it used to have. Somewhat pricey (not terrible for a Vegas steakhouse, but not cheap).

Best Brunch In Town

by thegorgeouz

We went to The Steakhouse at Circus Circus for brunch after comparing all the reviews on different website and we were glad we made the right choice. The food is great and the service is outstanding. We knew it's a Champange Brunch but we didn't know the Champagne is unlimited!! and our server pours us glass after glass after glass of Champagne and it's good. What we also didn't know, is besides the buffet items you get to choose one entree from 6 or 7 options. I had Filet Mignon and my friend had Lamb Chop and they were both nicely done. The portion is not exaclty an entree portion, but hey, with all those buffet items such as Oyester, Jumbo Shrimp Cocktail, Roasted Beef, Sashimi and the regular breakfast choices, you would appreciate the appetizer-size of the main dish.
The Steakhouse Sunday Brunch is definitley worth the cab ride from main strip.

Pros: Good food, Good price, Good service

Cons: a bit far from the strip.

Nice Place to eat

by angesand

This past August my sister was married in Las Vegas. She and her new husband chose to dine at the Steakhouse after the wedding since they were staying in the Circus Circus. The menu is a little pricey, but it was something different. My biggest complaint was that it took a little over an hour for us to be seated, even though we had reservations.
Everyone ordered the steak, and it was decent (I actually would have preferred a steak from Applebee's, it didn't have much seasoning). If you are not a big meat eater...or if you don't like just big HUNKS of meat, make sure you have them to filet the steak. It was enough to fill me up, and I had PLENTY left over.
I would definitely recommend The Steakhouse, it is a very nice, up class atmosphere (which many places in Vegas seems to lack).

Cons: long wait (despite reservations)

Every time we visit Vegas, we make sure to book a reservation for what we think is the best steak house ever (and we're from NYC!) The service is fantastic, friendly (we even ask for a specific server....Michael, you know who you are!) It's our "special dinner" while on vacation in Vegas. Warm, cozy, romantic atmosphere. Just superb!

Good steak, good price

by highmarked

I will start by saying that we showed up on time for our reservations but our table was not quite ready. They comped us a round of drinks for this and within 5 minutes of getting our drink at the bar we were getting seated. From that point on our service was excellent. Our meal was very good but I will say that they char the outside of all their steaks, I am not a fan and when we go back I will ask for them not to do that. The quality of the meat was excellent and after cutting the outside off I really enjoyed my steak. Our entire table had good things to say about everything. Our entire meal for 5 came out to less that $200 before tip. We were very happy.

Great Night, Terrible Food

by rslv29

After my wedding a few friends took us brought us here claiming it was the best steakhouse in Vegas. I choked down a "medium rare" steak that was completely charred on the outside, with no flavor so as not to be rude to our hosts. The salads were the best part of the meal. The ambiance is nice, but everything felt a little cramped.

A wonderful surprise

by celestemberner

When you walk thru the hotel/casino you immediately regret making the reservation at the Steakhouse. Once you walk in the smells and the service make you believe you are somewhere else. The dinners are way above steakhouses in this city and the Sunday buffet cannot be beat either in tastes, smells, choices or service. This is a way undrated steakhouse.

Pros: food, smells, service

Cons: , walking thru casino, children

I was served a well done steak after asking for med rare. I politely asked if I could get another steak and was told they don't guarantee well done steaks. Even talked to a manager. Got nowhere. Awful service, subpar steak. Rather be at Delmonico's, Del Frisco's, or Morton's for those prices.

Have been a patron of The Steakhouse for about 20 years. I could always expect the absolute best in service and food. The last couple of years, things seem to be heading in the wrong direction. Dining there in late Nov. this year was a major dissapointment. The food was just OK and the service was not very personal as I had become accustom too in the past.We had steak, baked potatoe, black bean soup and salad, all mediocre. The Luxor Steakhouse is best, by far.

I loved going to this restuarant. It is dark and quiet inside, you feel like you are all alone. it feels elegant, and you get great portions of food. I try to go there everytime I am in vegas. It just strikes me of the "high class" digning w/ a tough of cozy romance

Pros: dark interior, very cozy, candlite

Cons: hard to get resrvatns

Where's the Beef?

by gwolf044

It took 2 days to get a reservation so I was really expecting something special. I will admit the food was good, but not what I expected. My steak tasted ok, but I have had better. What really bothered me was the closed in feeling because the place is small and I felt crammed in. Also, since the steads are being cooked on an open flame in the center of the place, the smoke bothered me. My husband ordered the surf and turf which cost around $54. Way over priced for what he got. I ordered my favorite after dinner drink, an Irish Coffee, and wasn't pleased with that either. I am really wondering what all the excitement about this place is. I guess its all in what you look for in a place.

Pros: decor, inside hotel we were

Cons: crowded, expensive, long wait

Excellent Brunch

by m_smith

Due in part to posts read here, we tried the Sunday Buffet Brunch this past Sunday. We were not disappointed - the food was tastefully displayed and excellent. The shrimp were very large, and ready to eat, as opposed to many buffets that serve "peel & eat" type shrimp. The crab claws were excellent as well. The made to order grilled item selected was NY strip and lamb chops, both of which were very tasty and prepared perfectly. Nothing bad to report based upon this visit. If you have never been to the Steak House, or have only been here for dinner (also excellent), we strongly suggest you try their Sunday Brunch - you won't regret it.

Pros: Shrimp, Crab Claws, Made to Order Steak

MMMMMMMM loved it

by char7777

Who would have thought that the best steak in Vegas is here. The service was great and the steak was the best I have ever tasted. I had the
petite Filet Mingnon. It was fabulous.

Pros: atmosphere, price, location

Cons: traffic

Great Steaks & Service

by mds02

People still laugh at me when I recommend this place. They can't believe Morton's, Palm and Emeril's place are not mentioned before the Steakhouse - they laugh, until they try this place. This has got to be one of the best values in Las Vegas, as the steaks can compete with LV's best, at a fraction of the price. Service is always great, and we haven't even mentioned the terrific Sunday Brunch! Folks, if you have not tried the Steak House, we suggest you do so. You won't be disappointed.

Pros: Steaks, Brunch, Service
