This is an older hotel, with an old casino. A great place to stop by and eat. You have probably always heard of the 7.99 Prime Rib deals in Vegas. These guys do it to perfection. Very clean and cool diner experience with great food and service. I would not eat anywhere else when heading to Freemont Street.
This is a great place to learn your blackjack or poker chops before heading to the big boys down the strip. Learn the etiquette in a place where people will not roll their eyes when you ask questions.
Well, maybe it isn't really 5 stars, but it is one of my favorite casinos in Las Vegas. For true Vegas history, you can't beat this 100 year old casino. They have several antique slot machines on display, as well as numerous photos of a very early Las Vegas.
I have never stayed in the hotel, nor have I eaten in the restaurants, but for small-dollar gambling and historic charm, this place is the best in Vegas.
I ate at the Golden Gate in the late 90's and got the worst case of food poisoning imaginable! It was so bad I haven't been back to the Downtown Vegas area since. When I'm in Vegas I can't even think about heading over to Freemont Street without getting a little queasy.
PROS:
CONS: Bad food
