We just came back from Barton Orchards, my husband, myself and my 7 year old daughter. What a great time we had. The staff were very nice and there is a ton of stuff to do besides apple picking. We paid the full admission and my daughter went to the inflatable zone and jumped in the bounce houses and played inflatable basketball. We all went on the trackless train which takes you by some animated characters in small houses that talk to you (motion activated). We didn t know about them and the guy that drives the train told us about those and he also mentioned the pedal cars and boulderdash games that they had. There were TWO bands playing (which didn t interfere with each other.) The food was delicious, the donuts are awesome. We then went through the five-acre corn maze, which really is a lot of fun because you have to find clues and pictures and things. I couldn t get my husband out, he loved it so much. At the end of our visit when we were pretty much tired out, my husband and daughter went through the Haunted House, which they both liked. I am bringing my daughter back this Wednesday, which is a school holiday and every opportunity I get. I am an Ulster County resident and had no idea that this farm was here and that it is so much fun. As an aside, the wife of the owner of this farm recently passed away (around four months ago from some of the tributes posted) and I think it is amazing the way they have pulled themselves up from such a loss and honored her memory so sweetly. I read some of these negative reviews and have no idea what these other readers are talking about and also note that they are very old reviews. One of my new favorite places to take my family!!!!

I just went to a birthday party at the orchard for my 4 year old niece. About 10 minutes into apple picking, my other 4 year old autistic nephew threw an apple and it accidentally hit one of the security guards. His stepfather immediately went to apologize to the security guard and explained the situation, but the man told him he didn't care if the child was autistic and then proceeded to throw the entire birthday party out of the orchard. This seemed like an overly dramatic response to a 4 year old boy throwing an apple. A warning would have sufficed. What was worse was that the birthday group was personally escorted out of the orchard without having eaten any lunch, which was part of the party plan. The manager also refused to give the birthday girl's parents their deposit back for the birthday party. In the end, a 4 year old's birthday was ruined, as no one was even allotted time to sing happy birthday. I was also appalled by the way the security guards were laughing at us having to leave as they escorted us out, and one of them also yelled at my husband (who has multiple sclerosis and has difficulty walking) for walking too slow out of the park. The staff behavior was unprofessional, unfair, and disgusting. There are plenty of other great orchards to go apple picking that are even closer to NYC and NJ and have more courteous staff.

This was a great trip! We went early on a Saturday morning 10-09-10 and got right in! There was a small line at some events but could event hop to make up for the wait. There was so much to do besides picking fresh vegetables and fruit. The kids loved the bouncing castles, corn maze and haybale mazes. The pedal carts were fun for the adults (all part of the theme park). The apples were delicious and I can't wait to try the spreads and jams that I bought at the farm market! I highly recommend going early. We easily spent 2 1/2 hours there and when we left there was an enormous line in. We will try to go again next year!

Barton Orchards is a great family activity... BUT be prepared if going on the weekend that is is very crowded & by this I mean very long lines to get in, to get donuts, apple cider & almost anything else you would like to do.We went 1st weekend in October & there were a decent amount of apples to pick which were delicious! But Pumpkins, there were MANY but they were all rotting. It was a bit disappointing.

I couldn't say enopuygh about Barton Orchards. It is fun for everyone. It is Beautiful and everyone that works there is friendly. The Barton's a great people. They are out there running around helping people and keeping all in order so everyone feels welcome! I love the fact that by day it is a fun family day at the farm and at night the transform the place into a wicked halloween haunt!...I think anyone would just Love This Place............... Pros: Quality, Inexpensive, casual

Unfortunately, they appear to cater to the city folk that come up for the weekend. They have fun family stuff to do, but they charge a parking fee as well as fees for all types of picking, attractions and produce. It is an enjoyable time if you go during the week, but the weekend is crowded and just not a fun time with that many people.

We recently visited this orchard as a part of company outing. The place is very nice and there is someting for all ages. You can take the hayride and reach the orchard to pick the apples. They have a petting zoo, pony rides and a maze that kids love. My son loved the bouncy inflateable. Their old country store has yummy goodies like freshly baked apple pies, cakes, cookies and their cider donuts are one of the best. Don't forget to buy their fresh apple cider and jam.

We travel to Barton Orchards every fall and it is so much fun. They have free hayrides to the fields and once there you get to pick your own apples. My kids love going there. They also have pumpkins and other fruits and vegetables to pick. For the kids there is a great playground, pony rides and bounce castle. Bring your family!

PROS:
CONS: Parking fee.
