I needed a place to get away and do some productive reseach and project work. I couldn't have done better. The staff was extraordinary and couldn't do enough for me. My room was large, clean and well maintained.

I needed just the right (not too much) seclusion for a few days and this was perfect.

My room's balcony overlooked what I'm told are 1,200 foot cliffs (I think the locals call them the "Gunks"). On clear mornings the Alpenglow from the sun shining on the cliffs looked just like New Mexico!

Great Italian restaurant just a couple of miles away and an authentic German one right across the street..

Pros: superb, personalized service, well appointed, clean.

Cons: No dinner restaurant-but many nice ones close by

A lot of times, inns and b&bs post the MOST attractive photos of the place. I literally thought the place was hanging off from the cliff with the breathtaking view. It was just mound of "hills". and the room looked more or less like a college dorm. We stayed in one of those "fancy" room, but there was nothing fancy about it. The description says "post-modern", which i'm not sure where they got that from. Sure, the people were friendly, and we did enjoy their breakfast, but I wouldn't go back there. The bed was really feeling very cheap as well as their bed sheets and towels also. But this place will be good for company retreat. and they do advertise that on their website. But for romantic getaway? nah.

Minnewaska Lodge, one of the newer hotels in the area, is also one of the best. With amazing views of the cliffs, and truly comfortable accomodations, you'll definitely want to come back. They have a variety of different room types, including some with decks. The prices are great, and offer discounts depending on the season. And it includes breakfast. Would be especially perfect for a group of friends getting away together.

I just returned from a very relaxing weekend stay at the Minnewaska Lodge in the Shawangunk Mountains. Located at the base of a dramatic cliff view, the lodge is an ideal mix of a quaint B&B (personalized service, fresh baked cookies available throughout the day) and an urban hotel (modern decor and amenities). Nearby are charming restaurants in New Paltz, and scenic hiking at the Mohonk Preserve.
