I feel that every parent should know that this school is LESS than perfect. Teachers okay at best. More of a "club " than a school. If your child is VERY focused they will be fine, otherwise I would choose something smaller and more controlled. I think the good reviews are based of very distant past. Public school that you pay for but in public school you have very capable teachers and they are held accountable.

Morally repulsive and I dont know where to start. How about the teacher who smiled when I hinted that the black eye I had was from my dad. Maybe the gym teacher who had an erection 24/7? Speaking of gym, they force the freshman to do square dancing, convieniently during the seniors lunch hour so they can go up and make fun of the kids. An the gym teachers let it happen. The school literally hazes the students. Who should be surprised that catholics are so sick? Why dont you read about how the school went to fox news to help them report about discovering a teacher was a lesbian?

Lets not make this sound like Mean Girls now. Honestly it's high school. If you're quiet and don't talk to people you aren't going to have friends and that's all your fault. When I just came into prep I was like wtf is this, everyone was wearing coach and uggs but being in this school for three years now I've gotten to know many people and you can't judge a book by it's cover. Those kids rockin' brand names want to fit in as much as anyone else. &if all of you took the time to get to know them you can come back to me and talk crap. Yeah sure there are groups of friends called cliques but you're just hating because you don't have your own group. In Prep its easy to make friends and when you have your own group you will have the time of you life. Education wise, everyone does cheat. Honor society my ass. But hey I cheat occasionally too so I can't be a hypocrite. Hah. The work load is a lot which does prepare you for college. In public school you'll be lucky if the teacher has control over the class in prep you're lucky if you can say a word in class with out getting yelled at. People can hear my stomach growl from across the room. The only reason I gave it three stars was because it's expensive. Please stop hating on prep you outcasts, its an amazing school if you are blessed with social skills.(:

As a frosh in prep currently, I would say that the experience isn't what I thought it would be. To name some pros, their is an excellent resource-filled library, though the computers are slow as hell. Their are a lot of clubs and sports as well. For the cons- EVERYONE CHEATS. Like, on EVERY exam. People send each-other labs, share answers during tests and the teachers are completely oblivious to what's going on. It's not fair to us that bust our ass to study.
Also, their are a LOT of cliques. If you're not in certain clique than you're talked down on, the kids are rude and nasty snd judge by looks, what clothing you wear ECT.
Prep is also EXTREMELY overcrowded. I cant STAND walking in the halls with couples making out, people stopping to talk ect
On the outside prep looks like a great school, but it's really boring to me. Other top schools such as Xavier, Cross ect are lively and colorful. Prep's hallways are bright yellow and green? Um..
The last thing that annoys me about prep is that we have NO good recources. NO track, NO swimming pool, NO real fotball/baseball field, but the cunningham grassland across the street?
If prep wants to continue it's good name then they need to watch who they bring into the school, and get better recourses.

I am a student that has been attending prep for about 1 and a half years.
Before I even attended the school, i heard it was a very racist school filled with cliques. When i actually attended it, i found it was true. It seems like you have to be someone to fit in or you have to be a certain race wearing certain designer brands.
I must say only a very few teachers are actually helpful but sometimes they don't understand that we have a life too and sometimes it??s hard for us to attend the extra help classes.
I also don't like how almost everything is depended on the internet because sometimes people have problems with it and can't check their homework or grades.
The nurse is the last place I??d want to go when I??m feeling sick. They're so mean and rude.
Also, the tuition. Apparently this school is pretty cheap compared to other schools but even so, i don't think I??m getting the money??s worth.
Where is the tuition money even going?
I had to pay approximately an extra $500 for uniform because i can't even wear my own sweater there and about $200 for school supplies? I'm so sure the book store rips you off any chance they can get. I think the school is using the money to get fancy technology to make it seem good like smart boards in every room or buying expensive iMacs. Not exactly a bad thing but seriously is that really necessary?
And the lockers just seem to give teachers an excuse to make us carry heavy books around with us.
There are some good things about the school like how we can hang out in the cafeteria or library during our free periods and the scheduling is pretty good. Even with the racism in the school, there are still some people in the school that are really nice.
Overall, I think this school is an okay school but if you can go somewhere else that's possibly less scandalous, money-crazy, and have helpful teachers, go for it.

St. Francis Prep is a World-Class High School. The teachers are extraordinary. ALWAYS available before and after school to help in any way they can. They are true EDUCATORS!!! The Staff and Administration are very accessible. They are very open minded and very caring. They adhere STRICTLY to the Franciscan Values. I am very proud to have sent both of my children to St. Francis Prep. As a former Educator, I have seen the rest and believe me ST. FRANCIS PREP IS THE BEST! So many classes to choose from. So many activities to belong to. So many sports to choose. SOMETHING FOR EVERYONE!!! God Bless everyone at St. Francis Prep...here's to another 150 Years!!!

I would like to inform everyone reading this that Saint Francis Prep is a GREAT school. I love it. Take it from me, someone who tranferred from Cardozo to Prep that there is nothing compared to Prep. The person who left the comment saying that they'd be much happier going to Cardozo or Franny Lew, you obviously don't know anything about public school. I've been going to public school all my life. It was average. When I got to Cardozo it crossed the line. Cardozo is known for being an outstanding school? Hahaha. I'd rather be with "stuck up spoiled brats" then rude ghetto kids ANY DAY. Take my word. Prep is the best you can go. The faculty is great, the students come from caring families and the education is great. COME TO PREP!

Look, I transfered to Saint Francis Prep freshmen year, I was a transfer student from Bronx Science(because BronxScience has cliques and nerdy kids who endup drinking and smokingpot). Most of these Bronx Science kids have tons of homework and end up going to party colleges because they feel that hjighschool was so stressful. I came across a friend of mine who went to Bronx Science, he currently goes to Queens College and is treaining to be a teacher. When I came to prep the teachers were just perfect, they taught well and gave just the right amount of homework. The kids all came from decent families who cared about giving them a good catholic education. I took the AP Science track (Bio,Chem,Phy,Enviro)
and had an overall average of 93, 2070 SAT score, played Track, did soup kichen, and francisan emersion and was on the debate team, and was president of the math club and now I am studying pre-med at Columbia University. Also the cliques you are going to find in any school, so join a sport or a club, trust me you'll find friends. I recently came across a friend of mine who went to Bronx Science, he currently goes to Queens College and is treaining to be a teacher.Take it from the guy to transfered from Bronx Science, there is no school like prep.

I transferred to Saint Francis Prep just last year (2009-2010). I never wanted to change schools but seeing as how i moved to queens i was forced to. During my interview i answered questions based on what i expected the registrar wanted to hear. I got in easily. It seemed to me that everyone that applied got it during interviews. The day i started school i was friendly and outgoing in every class. In homeroom still no one spoke. Everyone was in their own cliques and they didn't take to new people so well. There are so many cliques in prep and this is one reason i still highly dislike the school. It seems all the girls are into what bags they're carrying or what color to highlight their hair. Albeit there are some nice friendly people, the majority of prep consists of clique-y people. It was until March that i finally fit into a group, mainly because i joined a club. The one thing i must highly compliment prep on is its teachers. This school really has outstanding teachers that care for their students and provide extra hep and whatever else it is that they need. The teachers here are excellent. But that's basically it. Prep has a lot of clubs too which is good. I'm continuing my second and last yr at prep and honestly i cannot wait to graduate and get out of here.

Prep isn't a bad school. But I don't see what's so great about it. Everyone cheats even though it supposedly has a "strict honor code". The cliques are ridiculous. It really doesn't get any more clique-ish then prep. Not that you can't hang out with other groups or ethnicities, but your expected to hang out with your own race or ethnicity. And if you don't, your considered "weird" or a freak or something, I know first hand. Lunch should show you how clique-ey prep is, each table is a different race or ethnicity, it's ridiculous. I understand there's cliques and what not in every high school, but prep takes it to a whole other level. Some people will literally not talk to you if your not in their clique, like if you say something to them they won't respond. I don't encounter that kind of stuck up attitude anywhere else I go, but at it seems to be like some sort of "unwritten rule" here at prep. The teachers are average and the curriculum is average, nothing special about it in my opinion. Whoever said that the people that graduate here don't necessarily go anywhere special is right. Does prep look good on a college application, yeah sure, which is the only reason I'm still at this school. I've met a few people, not just one, that transferred here and complained about the cliques and how they were treated, so they transferred someplace else, and I can't blame them. If I didn't feel obligated to stay here for reasons I don't feel like explaining (personal reasons), I'd run too. The school spirit isn't much to be admired either.

Prep isn't full of clique-ey prep kids, there are normal kids here too, but the prep kids make up the majority and pretty much run the school. There are teachers that care about you learning, but very few. I've seen maybe 6 at most out of the entire faculty. I WOULD NOT suggest going to prep if your considering other schools.

I attended prep 25 years ago. I know it's changed, but not by that much. The story is still the same = the cliques. Every high school has them: That is what high school is all about, finding yourself among a group of people you can identify with. What I have to say about prep is that it offers any club you may want to join, from drama to judo to latin. You can't say that about any public high school in New York. I had the best foreign language education in prep when I had French class with Mr. Lacotta. Because of him and Sister Angela I decided to pursue a French minor and obtain a teaching license in the language. I loved gym because we did a little of everything! I didn't care much for the science and math departments, but as a teacher now, I appreciate what they tried to do with a very unmotivated student in those subjects. I remember Buddha and the Barricellis. I dont know if anyone reading this is that old. Hello! Any preppies out there from the '80s, I want to hear from you. I loved prep!!!!!!

St. Francis Prep gave me the greatest high school experience I could have asked for. I have no doubt in my mind that the kids who wrote bad reviews here did not care enough to make their experience worth it. Everyone hates school work and if you're not doing well, of course you are going to blame the teachers, the school, etc. The fact of the matter is, there are so many teachers at Prep that care, but you have to make an effort yourself. Nothing is handed to you; you have to work for it. There are, of course, the teachers that should be teaching in a public school, but those are everywhere.
The best part about Prep was the community. There are so many groups of people, and I wouldn't say that it's clique-ish, because I was welcome to sit with whichever group I felt like. Honestly, it's impossible for the entire school to sit at lunch together; there needs to be groups of friends. The honors kids were definitely the nicest, most hysterical kids out there. With so many kids, it is literally impossible not to have friends.
Academic-wise, if you're in the AP and honors track, you are set. I was, and am now attending an Ivy League institution with a very hefty scholarship. I think the activities I was involved with at Prep had a lot to do with it too. You can join anything, and if nothing interests you, you can make your own club. Not to mention how Campus Ministry does it's very best to foster your religious education as well. I grew closer to God in my time there. Contrastingly, if you do not believe in God, you are never forced to.
Also, there are only a handful of rich white kids, and anyone who thinks that they run the school is mistaken and ignorant. The same can be said for those that think the majority of AP kids are pretentious. Have you spoken to any of them before or are you just jealous?
I hope this review helped, and if anyone has any questions at all, my email is jensac@seas.upenn.edu

I've been goin to Saint Francis Prep for two years and i absolutely love it. I can also tell you for a fact you aren't picked on by anyone neither teacher nor student, because of yourskin color. The teachers are great, There is wide vaiety of classes to choose frm, anot the mention around 70 clubs to choose from, you will find something you good at. a passing grade at the school is 75% unlike other schools. It was rated as one of the most outstanding high schools in the nation, and the iggest catholic high school in the country. anyone with an aveage of 75% in 2 or 3 classes in the end of the semester is kicked out. the religion department is a wealth of knowledge and experience; the Engish department is top notch, as well as all the other departments. THere are some occasional idiot teachers, as ther should be otherwise noody would know the difference between them and good ones. Its an overall great school and it has opened alot of doors for me.

I graduated from St. Francis Prep several years ago and didn't realize -- until now, how extraordinarily lucky I was to go there. Right now I'm preparing to teach English, and from observing even the best public high schools, no school can even *compare* to the quality and warmth of St. Francis. For all those who complain about cliques, every school has them. As long as a student tries, gets to know the teachers, and joins club or two, his or her experience will be unforgettable.

i have no IDEA!!! what these people under me are talking about?? SFP was such a great school!! i had such a great high school experience there. The teachers are great! of course your going to have your average teacher who you are going to hate , which high school doesn't have that but other then that everyone is great. The teachers put so much effort and dedication to teach us. I just graduated from prep this summer and its so sad, i met some awesome people there and loved them so much. At prep you have full school spirit that everyone is involved with even if you think its corny you will learn to love it. People who don't like prep are haters, their just mad cause they probably couldn't get in or cant afford it. Yes its kinda expensive but hello its catholic school and yes you have to work hard to stay in or then you will get kicked out, 75 is passing. Prep was a terrific school and i will miss it the most

The teachers are all nasty and don't care about the students. The head of the Science Dept is a old Crab who thinks shes young. They are so cliqueish and seperate. All the kids stick with their own kind. The teachers will target you if you have dark skin. They only care about trying to look good. So many kids have transferred out of that school because of the disgusting atmosphere from the teachers and faculty. If you go there you will come to loathe Prep the very first month. They charge high tuitions, but you do not get quality service from any of the teachers.

Every bad thing written above about St. Francis is absolutely true. The only thing you're paying for is to have the SFP logo on your diploma. The administration is absolutely repugnant. They're extremely nasty house wives on a power trip. ESPECIALLY Mrs. D'Andrea, she is by far the nastiest money hungry person I have ever had the misfortune to come across.
As for the teachers, it's no surprise that most of them have been terminated over the last two years and it's about time. I can name maybe only FIVE teachers who are worth having. One in the Chemistry Dept who actually gives a damn about what you learn, maybe two in the SS dept and one or two in the Math dept.
The rest are honestly only there for the paycheck.
The religion dept is a joke. The language dept is JOKE.
EVERYONE CHEATS. The teachers just don't give a damn.
As for the students, a bunch of vapid superficial A-holes who are really only concerned about what label is on their bag or their shoes

It's EXTREMELY clique-ish
There's hardly ANY diversity personality wise, and the ethnicities most certainly stick to themselves. Lunch at prep is divied into a Filipino Table, A Korean Table, A Greek Table, A "Guido" Italian Table, A Jock/Cheerleader Table, A Haitian Table, A Black Table, and the so called "Alternative Rockers" sit outside on the benches most of the year.

Prep needs to get it's act together. I went to this school with MUCH higher expectations. Sure I did well in school but only because that's just how I am. There is really nothing to drive you there, no inspiration. And school spirit? haahahahaha What the hell is that?

We're talking about a football team who, 2 or 3 yrs ago hyped up a game against Holy Cross for an entire week, and LOST IT 17-0.

I honestly think I would have been better off going to Cardozo or even Francis Lewis. I know Id've had much more fun there. So anyone who reads this, save your money.

I graduated 2 years ago and I know of no one who's graduated prep who's gone on to do something spectacular or go to an exceptional college. Anyone who got into NYU, had a parent who WORKS @ NYU. And I had MUCH better grades and SAT scores than they did.

talk about overrated.

Yes, prep does have cliques and its flaws but doesnt every high school has that? Is'nt that the experience you get when enter into high school? I'am now into my thrid year at prep and absolutly love it! Of course there are your typical cliques in the school, but prep does have some amzing teachers who care for there students and are not only there to teach but also to lend out a helping hand. I can personally say that I have found some of my teachers to be passionate and extremly informative. I know that when I have trouble I can go to the fo adviece or help.

This school is not what it used to be. It is dominated by spoiled, rude, obnoxious students and a few cliquish minorities. The vast majority of the teachers, a good percentage incompetent recent Prep graduates themselves, are there to get through the periods and be home as soon as possible. Very few of the teachers are actually caring, and these are the veterans of Prep, a group that is shrinking as the years pass. The Administration, a group of money-hungry, nasty liars, does not control the school well and has created a completely false image that it is a nurturing environment, when it is lacking academically and is crawling with 'inappropriate' teachers who seem to forget that students are not in the dating pool. I was incredibly disappointed with this so-called 'fine-institution.' It's time for Prep to get its act together.

Rich white kids who wear name brand bags and shoes such as Coach and Diesel dominate this Catholic prep school. When hanging out outside of school, wear Abercrombie&Fitch, Hollister, American Eagle, or Armani Exchange and you're sure to blend in. Every sports team thinks they are better than the others. Regular classes are disorganized, slow, and taught by teachers who can't seem to control their students. Meanwhile, Honors and AP teachers tend to be harsh graders and very demanding of their sheltered, pretentious, and extremely competitive students, which often results in high student stress levels and lowered self-esteem. SFP's education is overrated; the 4-year curriculum has a different order than every other catholic school ("it's the New Jersey of Catholic Schools") , and most students don't even go on to study at noteworthy colleges. Cliques can be found everywhere and almost everyone cheats (despite the school's "strict Honor Code"). The SFP administration decided to ban skirts after many years of the school's reputation being diminished because of girls who wore their skirts too high and couldn't keep their legs closed. The administration has also revealed their plan to add uniform shoes to the dress code. Drinkers and smokers are common among students (especially grades 10-12), although the school has cracked down on pot smoking over the past few years. Ethnic races tend to stick together. School spirit runs exceptionally low.

This high school is waaaay over rated. The staff is unkind. Most of the teachers are just there for the paycheck. And, the other students are stuck up rich kids who drive daddy's car to school.
