I used to go there for their amazing pastries, despite their horrible services by obnoxious or overly friendly employees. I see that their service is going down hill. Their cupcakes are stale, but they defend their stuff and they won't listen to their customers. After many very unpleasant incidents, I shared my concern with the owners. They feel the same way: if you don't like us, sorry! They won't miss you if you stop going there, so they say. It's not worth your money for overly priced coffee and other things, yes, they taste good (when they are not stale). That said, NEVER AGAIN!

I love breakfast at Kitchenette, and when I say love I mean LOOOOOVEE!! the scrambled eggs with cheese just melt in your mouth, and I love that I can have them for lunch if I'm in the mood. The only drawbacks: It gets crowded quickly, the tables are a little tight to get in and out of, and you might find yourself waiting a bit if it's packed.

Everything I've ordered here, from the turkey meatloaf to the blueberry pancakes, not only tastes yummy but like it wasn't made in a restaurant - like it was made for you in someone's kitchen, so I guess Kitchenette is an appropriate name! Usually when the server says 'everything's good' you know they're full of it - not so here :)\r\n\r\nPrices are slightly higher then average but the portion sizes are MUCH higher than average and you often get a choice of a side or 2.\r\n\r\nDon't get me started on the bakery case - they make everything fresh on-site and really tests my willpower when I walk by it - probably not a good thing if like me you are trying to watch your waistline.\r\n\r\nA lot has been mentioned about the brunch wait times and cramped quarters but I've rarely had to wait more than 20 minutes and even at those busy times there's usually a few open seats at the counter for the truly ravenous. Uptown diners also tend to be more courteous about scooting about - if this place was in midtown I'm sure I would be getting bopped upside the head with the overflowing shopping bags of tourists but thankfully it hasn't happened yet!\r\n\r\nA great neighborhood find!!!\r\n

Pros: Home Cookin' and Bakin' - mmmmmmm

Cons: Occasionally cramped + forget the diet!

Usually when I go for dessert, I love what I order, it's never crowded and service is fine. I went for dinner and it was packed. When they finally took our order, we waited forever to get our food and when everyone else in my party's food did arrive, I was told that what I ordered was unavailable and I had to choose another option, which was terrible. An awful experience which ruined what used to be a fun place to go late at night for cupcakes.

Decided to have Sunday Brunch here with a girlfriend of mine. First thing we noticed was about six groups of people standing outside. I felt good because i knew that was a good sign about the place, the only problem was that there was no waiting area inside because it was cold outside. After about a twenty minute wait we were seated. If you love being closely seated next to people you don't know then this is exactly the place to go. I was so afraid of a little boy coughing on my plate I thought I was going to die. After a reasonable wait time out waitress came back with our order. I ordered the Gingerbread Pancakes with Pumpkin Butter along with turkey sausages and strawberry lemonade. The food tasted of fresh, quality ingredients and i truly enjoyed my entire meal. The prices are reasonable but don't waste your money on the $3 biscuit. It's good but I can buy better for less. Overall nice experience, plan to come again.

Was in the Columbia U area spending the holidays with my sister and went to this place a lot. They use homemade recipes (pancakes are great!) for almost everything, and it is really delicious (though probably not the healthiest!) I tagged along with my sister and her crew for brunch, then returned on my own during the week. Had the same waitress most of the time, megan i think, was really helpful when I was trying to figure out subway directions for my touristy wandering. Will definitely go back next time I'm in town

Kitchenette is a great brunch spot although it is a little small. You can sit at the counter or sit at the tables. The tables all have old door tops. It's a prettty unique spot and very fun. Oh, the food is great too.

\r\n\r\nThe menu does not have a huge selection....but the food is very tasty and good. There is even a hamburger on the menu for over $15! What sets this place apart from other restaurants is the ambiance and setup of the restaurant itself and the friendly and knowledgable staff that are here to greet and serve you. I felt very welcome here by everyone and was treated like a king. The thought that came to my mind after leaving this place was that......this was a very classy place.\r\n

Pros: food,service

I was one of the people who waited for hours and got NO food. Last time we deal with you. This place is horrible, what appalling customer service, especially the attitude we got when we called. Too bad I can't give ZERO stars.

Pros: I was spared from eating food that sat in a bag for a couple of hours

Cons: Appallingly late delivery, and then no food for me

.

Apparently they think that if you used seamless web to order your food you don't have to answer to your customers. When the list went around I thought to myself ""self, what food would still be edible when its delivered late and cold?"". I chose the turkey meatloaf and mashed potatoes. After missing out delivery time, and hanging up on our co-worker in charge of the order, the food arrived. Having lunch was like playing the lottery - is my food there? Will it be edible? I was one of the (un)lucky 9 who had their food show up - as opposed to the 3 people who got no food. The best thing I can say is that yes, in fact my food was mildy lukewarm, and meatloaf w mashed potatoes is still edible after being 1 hour 30 minutes late. My co-workers with the burger and Caesar salad were not so lucky. They eat took one bite and threw the food out. Frankly I think we should refuse to pay the bill - our meeting was over before food arrived. If you had a power lunch meeting for a client planned - guess what - you better go order from someone else because you food will not be arriving in a timely fashion. If I was served this food by a client I'd fire them and hire someone else.\r\nI will never order from here again. I urge you all when thinking about ordering your food to come to your senses and go somewhere - anywhere - else.\r\n

Pros: Cold meatloaf is in fact edible

Cons: 1/2 my party had no food or inedible food.

.

This restaurant usually has great food and decent service (at least last time I was there 6 months ago). Everyone has their bad day and it takes a lot to write off a place like this based upon one experience, but this is that exception. There is no excuse for delivery to be more than 1 1/2 hours late, cold food, missing food and hanging up on us when we call for the third time. If you can't get the food delivered on time and with the food at least semi-fresh, you apologize and proactively cancel the order. However, not having the people in place that would extend at least one ""I'm sorry"" as a basic courtesy means it is time to get out of the business. Sorry to see you go Kitchenette.

The question to ask yourself when ordering delivery from Kitchenette is, do you want your food cold, or do you want it at all? The food was 1:40 minutes late, and was cold. Our office meeting had already finished by the time it arrived and then over 25% wasn't even there. And half of what they brought was inedible. Sad, because we really wanted to love this place.

We ordered for delivery - they were more than 90 minutes late and when we opened the bags we found they had only delivered part of the order. Never again - steer clear!

Pros: Can't comment, never got my meal...

Cons: Never got my meal...

We waited at least 20 minutes for a table at Kitchenette's Uptown restaurant and while the tables were packed and we had to sit close to a neighboring table, we got water at our table right away, the server came by to ask for drinks within a reasonable amount of time and we ordered when we were ready. It was packed and when we asked about our pancakes taking a bit longer than we anticipated the waitress told us that their grill is only so large and when a lot of orders go in at once it takes a while to get them lined up on the grill. Made sense to me. \r\nFYI - this isn't a place to go for a leisurely weekend brunch if you want to linger over your coffee or whip out your laptop because there is almost always a line of people waiting to get in - but the food is good and you can get in and out without a hassle once you sit down. \r\nI did notice that the waitresses were stressed out but it seems to me that with a restaurant that crowded they are bound to be a bit overwhelmed. When my husband made a joke though, our waitress smiled and seemed to lighten up. A touch of kindness can help - I was a waitress once too - so smile at your overwhelmed server. NYC diners can be harsh on their servers. Lighten up and chances are your service will improve!

Cons: Crowded for brunch.

I have been here for brunch on a number of occasions and I have been consistently happy. Oftentimes, I come here with 3 or 4 friends for a mini-book club while dining on the extremely delicious comfort food. At no point are we ever rushed or asked to leave. One of the greatest things about this place is that once you are situated you are not expected to get up and leave to make room for the next table once done eating. I will continue to go back!

At first impression, we wrongly assumed we were in for a nice dining experience. The place is decorated nicely. But the dining experience was miserable. Right after ordering, we asked to move because the sun was blaring right in our eyes and the staff refused saying we just placed an order (not sure why that would matter). We inisted and were reluctantly moved and they never waited on us again after bringing the food. On top of that, the staff were visibly eating in the corner like a pack of feral dogs.\r\n\r\nAs far as the food, both the quality and the taste were very disappointing. I've had better waffles out of a frozen breakfast package (Eggo waffles, $1.99 at your local supermarket). The omelette was average at best, the meat inside tasting extremely processed. The prices were expensive, particularly given the very subpar quality.\r\n\r\nWalking out, we were shocked that there was a line to get into this place. Don't be fooled by the decor. Very disappointing, skip it.....

The writers of the kitchenette menu had a knack for making the dishes sound really tasty, if perhaps a little exaggerated. The food was pretty good, but nothing to write home about. My tex mex eggs tasted a lot better than they looked (thank goodness! UGLY!) and my sister's peach crepes were flavorful, if overly chewy.\r\n\r\nThe dining room is very crowded, with precious little space between different parties, which can be awkward. We were also unimpressed by how ridiculously loud it seemed. We asked to be reseated in a quieter area, but by the time our lackadaisical waiter got around to move us, we decided it was no longer worth the bother. \r\n

Pros: cute, filling, decent

Cons: pricey for breakfast, elbow-to-elbow seating

Kitchenette is the best place to go for comfort food. The staff is great and the food is amazing! The portions are HUGE and you?ll definitely have leftovers for later. The prices are decent (around $15 for an entre for dinner) and it is far uptown but it is definitely worth the trip. There isn?t a lot of seating so get there early! They also have dessert you can order to go (if you don?t save room after your meal). Some of the dishes I recommend are the chicken pot pie, the meatloaf, hamburger, and the entire brunch menue.

I went here last Sunday for brunch for the first time. It was very good. I had the Berry pancakes with the turkey sausage. The decor was cute it had a rustic like theme. You will see alot of Columbia University students there. I recommend everyone to try it. I was even lucky enough to find a parking space around the corner but it is hard to determine whether or not parking is always easy to find.

My wife and I went on Easter for brunch and maybe the regular cooks were out that morning or something. We both ordered the waffle special, which was expensive for a waffle. One was as dry and tasteless as cardboard (really, cardboard is a good comparision) and the other equally tasteless but undercooked, so it was more like soggy cardboard. The butter didn't help because they didn't give us any. Nice little place though.

I went to Kitchenette this weekend for brunch. The place is absolutely adorable and the food is delicious. However, the service is absolutely horrible. Since the place is really tiny they have tables of two pushed together so you are basically sitting next to strangers. My party ordered before the party sitting next to us and not only did they get their food first but they also ate their food and received their check before the food for my table arrived. When I asked the waitress she told me it was because I ordered pancakes....it's pancakes - not steak so I didn't understand and I told the waitress just that.

From beginning to end the staff was RUDE. We were completely ignored, at least 6 other parties were seated before us with the same number as us and without reservation. When asked to explain the hostess told us she would ""lose money"" by seating us instead of them. The manager and hostess both raised their voices & pointed their fingers in our face. It was completely uncalled for, and completely surprising given that we were not causing trouble and were a potentially large party. On previous experiences there I had encountered milder forms of rudeness, and subpar 'homestyle'. If you're going uptown go to Amy Ruths, Spoonbread, or Sylvia's...this place is not worth the hassle.

I attend Teacher's College at Columbia University part-time. I was looking for a restaurant for dinner before my once-a-month evening class. \n\nAfter learning about Kitchenette Uptown on CitySearch, I went for dinner last night. All I can say is WOW! It is a cute, fun little place that smells like the kitchen you WISH your mom had! \n\nI had an ""early dinner"" special -- the Four Cheese Macaroni with a large mesclun-style salad for $13. The Macaroni was TO DIE FOR -- every bite from beginning to end was delicious and satisfying. The salad was LARGE and very tasty! \n\nI had to splurge and get dessert -- the homemade chocolate pudding was bliss -- the deep cocoa flavor was so luscious!\n\nI will DEFINITELY return to Kitchenette Uptown anytime I am up at Columbia. I can't wait to try one of their breakfasts, too!

and was never very happy when she was in the kitchen. I think everyone in Kitchenette feels the same way. It is cute but the food is only average, it's expensive and rarely comes up to the expectations raised by the descriptions. The butter and jam comes in tiny little paper cups. The service is either clueless or surly or both. Worst of all - the biscuits are leaden! Who ever heard of toasting fresh biscuits?

The wait staff and manager are rude and terribly inefficient. I observed this behavior with other patrons and experienced it first hand. The food definitely does not make up for the POOR, POOR, service. This place only feels like the home of a dysfunctional family. There are many better options in the neighborhood and I suggest you take your money and your friends elsewhere.

Cons: poor service, long waits

I have to admit that I was a little underwhelmed the one time I went to Kitchenette Uptown for dinner, but brunch was a totally different story! The plates are generous and tasty, with nice little twists on traditional brunch fare and it's a lovely, bright room to chat with a friend and enjoy a weekend morning, or afternoon.

I don't really understand why some people like to eat here so much. The place itself looks adorable, and the food and desserts look delicious, too. But the two meals I had there were rather bland, and there are definitely better dessert places in the area.

This place has the rigfht idea- great homestyle kitchen ambience with an adorable counter and bakery display, unfortunately they fell into everything that stinks about New York- AN OVERPRICED Menu with way little bang for the buck- In momma's kitchen you want big portions and tasty homestyle favorites with some upscale twists- the portions instead are tiny and unsatisfying, the service is slow, and while stuff sounds special- this is far from the truth- not to mention ingredients that weren't fresh- the fruit salad was mush and the bagel was stale!

This place reminds me of being in Mom's kitchen. Old and comfortable. Tiled floors with a Lower East Side kitchen decor.
