From a technical perspective, I guess they know how to fix pipes, though I have to say that this company has some of the worst service in the East End. They're people are rude, condescending, and their people in the field act as if their doing you a favor to fix your pipes.

I'm really sorry about this company, I've used them for years but now it's too much. I would stay clear, there are newer companies in town who don't think they have a monopoly on the plumbing business.

Since the recession began, Ive begun to rate businesses with whom I do business since my hard earned dollars go to pay for valued services of all types. I have no problem giving Harold McMahon Plumbing & Heating a very poor rating due to an unfortunate experience I had with them this summer (2011) - pre Hurricane Irene, btw. This problem could have been resolved with a simple apology, unfortunately I never received one.

I will say their record up until now, nearly 12 years has been good, however my latest experience with them was very poor which is the reason for this submission.

The contention I have is with updating customers while they wait for service and/or parts to be ordered. This company fails to see the importance of keeping customers informed as to how the repair process is occurring and when questioned, remain defensive and above any good customer service rules or compassion guidelines. They have no empathy for their clients' needs - they look at customer service like a burden rather than valuing a well communicated solution. Even if a company can fix a problem adeptly, if they can't communicate what they're doing then they still fail, in my opinion.

Did they get my repair done? Yes. Was it done with care and communication along the way? No. For their part, after I called them on this point and even speaking with the owner, they did not charge me for the repair even though I have insisted on paying. The bill is not the bone of contention. The issue here is the way one of their valued customers was treated by one of their long time employees - I will not be calling Harold McMahon for plumbing needs in the future.

I have used McMahon's services for my summer house out in Easthampton for over ten years. He and his workers have always been reliable and on time. I think there was only one time when they didn't get to open my house on the day that I asked. I also have always asked for them to call me to let me know they turned on my water, and they usually remember to call me after they work on my house. However, although they have done things on time, they aren't always careful. Several times I found the kitchen or bathroom faucets dripping when I went out for the summer after they turned on the water for me. Overall, they are a reliable service, but I'd recommend checking your house after they open it and turn on the water/heat.
