Upper East Side Irish Pub

by Fanny K. | insider_guru Insider Guru | Rank: 292

Becky's is a real Irish Pub located on the upper east side. You will always feel welcome when you arrive and if an assortment of beer on tap calls to you, this is the place to answer that call. They have great burgers here and several TVs on at once so you really have a choice as what you would like to glance at from time to time. This truly is a friendly place.

Won't come back here unless desperate

by lilianfrances

Came here for lunch recently. Ordered a fountain soda with my meal. Both my and my companion's beverage were flat, which we reported to our waitress. She replaced our beverages with canned soda but had the gall to charge us $5.50!

You can do better elsewhere if all you want is ordinary pub fare and decent service.

Gave it one more try

by loosie4again

Since all of you locals (aka town drunks) had such a problem with my friends and I giving this place a bad review, we decided to give it another try. Sadly we did not come in and drink for 7 hours...didn't feel like having to sell a kidney to pay my bar tab...but we did have brunch. It took about 20 minutes to bring a mimosa. I know the whole concept of mixing TWO WHOLE liquids together is a tough one, so I completely understand. It also took about 45 minutes to bring out some eggs. I asked for ketchup from our waitress, which never came. But don't worry, the couple next to us got some without asking, so that made it all okay. The only reason I give this place ANY stars is because the two times I have been there I have gotten drunk. But I have also gotten drunk in a sump so that's not saying much. Good luck in the future, guys!

Fun, accommodating, friendly, beer bar

by drink_club1

Ai raves that it's got "the best lady's room of any bar of this type." Not having visited the location, Mykel is not sure of the hidden pleasures of the room, but he'll take Ai's word for it. One of the not-so hidden pleasures of the bar was our server, Jasmine. From the moment we walked in, she was Johnny... er... Jasmine on the spot. "Let's open up the back room for them," she suggested to the bartender... even though we started as two of us. Before the rest of the crew arrived.
There were a ton of beers listed on the menu. Mykel chose one... it was sold out. Ai chose one. Nope, didn't have that one either. As other people arrived, the sold-out list grew. BUT, we all got to try something new and the food, though somewhat usual, was tasty as a hotdog at Yankee Stadium. All-in-all it was a great night. Mykel says, "It's my kind of bar: wood, lots of beer, no meatheads, no snobs... and a great-looking front BECKY'S sign." --Drink Club NYC is a roving group of New York drinkers

Pros: great service, friendly atmosphere, great beer selection (on paper)

Cons: a lot of listed beers are unavailable

good food, nice selection on tap

by rc333

usually a good neighborhood pub except when idiots like the ones posting 1 star barge in to pound back shots and drinks for 7 hours (all from the same day). it's laughable that one reviewer posted 'i'm pretty sure they over-charged me' -- if you're too drunk to be sure and too stupid to pay it, too bad. otherwise, it's an enjoyable pub with above average food and a good selection of beers.

Good low key place

by jackryan

This place is a decent neighborhood bar with a great beer selection. there are a few problems with the joint. AC's are over a bunch of the tables which means you'll be an ice box in about point 2 seconds. The other is in the back it's not really AC'ed well.

The pub food is decent and run of the mill.

Pros: Frozen Popsicle

Cons: Frozen Popsicles

you what?

by kc2323

I've just been reading the previous reviews, and am curious as to why the last 3 are so bad, and also,
I think it's odd that they were all written on the same date??? They are not a true reflection of what this bar is really like, and it sounds as though someone is making up reviews. Beckys is a great neighborhood bar, great beer selection, yummy english skinny 'chips', awesome pizza. I highly recommend!

Pros: great beer selection, live music on wednesdays

RIP OFF!

by loosie4

I went there the day of the marathon with a few friends. We were there from brunch until about 7 that night. When we got the bill, it was LAUGHABLE - they did not buy ONE drink back - they charged us for EVERYTHING and even drinks we didn't have! They also added the gratuity on for some reason - probably because most people don't notice so they tip twice - and the service was awful! They forgot one of our meals and were slow coming to check on us. Half the time we had to walk up to the bar ourselves to get a drink. Then they'd send us back to get it from the wiatress who NEVER came. Never going back there again. If I could, it would get NO stars.

Most Expensive Bar Tab ever

by taurus88

Sure, we drank a lot here. They didn't buy one drink back. They gave us the bill for four people with the gratuity included and it was $540!!!! 32 Baby Guiness shots for $208.00?!? I mean, at that point I don't even know if we really had 32, but they clearly didn't buy anything back, and we were charged for a mystery diet coke. The service was not good, I guess when the gratuity is included, why bother. I would not go back. Everytime I pass this place now, I give it the finger.

Cons: Winner of the Most Expensive Bar Tab Ever

I award this place ZERO stars

by jasminelover

This place was just brutal. The service was horrible, the people there were hideous, and I'm pretty sure they over-charged me on my tab! Probably the worst time I've had in a New York establishment EVER. I would never go back here unless I was homeless and needed a place to urinate.

Pros: non

Cons: terrible service

I have a friend that discovered this place so I decided to check it out. Good drinks, nice waitresses, great Christmas atmosphere. All warm and cozy, like a neighborhood bar should be.

Pros: Christmas lights, good waitresses

Cons: None!

Best beer bar in this area

by gaga273

What a great beer bar!!! They have over 20 good beers on draught, and served in an Imperial glass (20 oz glass)? WOWOWO. Maybe had one to many, but on holiday with my peeps-they are a good local place. Food is good and cheap. At night see Glen. However, Do not expect cheap prices for food or great service.

Pros: many draught beers

Cons: service & hours

Great Sports Bar

by uesgirl820

Good food - nice staff - and lots of beers on draft. They have a ton of
tvs where you can watch several differnt sports at one time. The jukebox is cool b/c you can download your own music. The prices are a lil steep for a pub but other than that I reccommend Becky's.

Pros: draft beers, tvs, service

Cons: too expensive

Solid neighborhood bar...

by fenris35

...built on a foundation of 24 draft taps and good bar food. The inside looks casual and the atmosphere absolutely is. I doubt no one is taking the subway to drink here. The food does make it totally worthwhile to show up for a game though. Good bar to hang out at if you want to take a break from drinking in the village with the whole college crowd, or B&T crowd in the meatpacking district.

Show up with a bunch of good friends get food , get sloshed, talk to everyone, put 10 dollars in the jukebox, you will have a fantastic time.

Watch out though, the touch screen on the jukebox registers your touch 2 inches to the left of where it should be resulting in hilarious song choices.

Pros: good food, lots of beer, cute bar wenches

Cons: jukebox touch screen will frustrate, has a propensity towards Hall and Oates

Excellent neighborhood pub

by stupidmop10

Becky's is THE neighborhood pub of choice. Good dark Irish pub that doesn't take itself too seriously. I doubt anyone will travel from other neighborhoods to hang out here, which keeps the crowd pleasant, unpretentious, and neighborly. Always a good time and a great place to catch sports games. Good beers on tap, and the most amazing chicken nachos in the city. I swear they lace them with something, too good to be true. Only about $9, but can easily feed 2-3 people. We eat it all the time for an entire meal. Other appetizers are also very good, and really good sizes for the price. Newcastle beer is about $4/pint. Bigger american beers (bud, miller) are cheaper. Good prices in comparison to other Manhattan bars. Very fun place. Good pub atmosphere. Good, real people. Good staff.

Pros: Great prices, food, and atmosphere

Cons: They play U2 (they're Irish, oh well.)

Great time!

by nynewb

I don't know what everyone is complaining about. I've been here several times and have always had friendly and fast service. There are a number of beers on tap, and you get a lot of food for the price.

Good for a drink and dinner on a Sunday night

by ceca

The place was empty when we walked in but soon afterwards some more people came. There were a few different games on each of the television sets. We asked for recommendations and were not disappointed. Since we ate at the bar the bartender was making sure our glasses were full. We even both got buy backs! So we're definitely coming back.

Pros: great bartender, sports on tv, decent pub food

I am APPALLED To say the least!

by flicka

I went to this stupid pub tonight not expecting much but a few drinks and some basic food. I did not have high expectations. After waiting for 20 minutes (the place was dead) for basic pub food, my husband politely asked when it would be ready -the response we got in return was very nasty & then she proceeded to talk about us & point to us with another waitress the whole evening. On top of everything, the sneaky, inattentive waitress charged us a 20% tip on our bill (for 4 people)! This is a typical pub - nothing special - don't make the same mistake we did. Do not waste your hard earned money - please!

Pros: GO NEXT, DOOR TO, BAKER STREET PUB

Cons: WHITE TRASH, SKANKY WAITRESSES, REALLY POOR SERVICE

Rude

by cynku14

if you look young, be prepared to be carded twice and called in. they got busted last week for serving to minors, since then the staff have become really nasty for 20-something customers. my friend and i were with our group of friends (mid 20s) and we were the only ones who got carded, twice, & the waitress was really nasty about it! if they're courteous about it, that's fine, but their rudeness last night is definitely turning us away. copperfield's a few blocks up is MUCH better, all around.

good stuff

by justbrewit

This place is good for my favorite meal: burgers and beer. Its basically your typical pub...I find myself going back there b/c the food and drinks are good - and you can even watch english soccer or hockey there. I've even brought dates there for a beer and good conversation. Pretty good and simple - just don't expect to be treated like you're at the Plaza.

Expect a Weight

by jason28e

Wanted to go watch some Football by my buddy's place on Sunday and we want to Becky's. It will be my first and only visit to Becky's. On the postive side the choice of foriegn beers on tap was refreshing and the burger I had was great. But the service was lousy and everyone was on their damn cell phone (me included), so it didn't create a good atmosphere to watch Sunday Football Games at.

Pros: Beer Selection, Burgers

Cons: Service, Atmosphere, Cell Phone Useage

How Rude!

by ToWhomItMayConcern

This place looks fun, but the waitress I had was horrible. I asked for a soda and five minutes later, I asked her for a soda again, because she didn't bring me the first one I ordered. So, twenty minutes after asking her for the soda the third time and not receiving it, I asked her for it again and she said "Oh! I forgot!" At least twenty minutes after that (when she finally came close to our table again and I still hadn't received my drink), I asked her for it again and she had the same reaction, "Oh! I forgot!" Five minutes after that, she finally gave me my soda and didn't even apologize. To make it worse, she actually charged me for it. That is incredibly rude - the management should be monitoring their waitresses and making sure the customers are satisfied because they just lost one.

Pros: Ms. Packman, Smoking vsNon-Smoking, Good food

Cons: Service, Management, Drink Specials

Always a good time!

by jenny4674

I've been to Becky's a bunch of times, one of them being this past St. Patty's Day, and it is consistently fun. The bartenders and waitresses are friendly and they have a great selection of beer on tap. It's the kind of place you can go to 2 or 3 times and the bartender will remember your name and what beer you drink. The food is also good, and although it may be a tiny bit pricey, the sizes make it worth it. Becky's is a great place to go with some pals and have a good ole time getting drunk!
