The vast collections for art in all of it's forms are truly amazing at this public library. It is absolute heaven for anyone in love with art in any of its forms. The rotating exhibits are often interesting, as well as various lectures and concerts--but the circulating collection is worth the trip alone. The plaza just beyond the entrance is the perfect place to enjoy that recently acquired play or music.

You might recognize this library from the end f Stephen Spielbergs A.I. Or from a host of other media outlets. The gold lions are truly iconic, and foreshadow the inside of the Library. You dont come here for books so much as ambiance and history. They usually have at least one free museum quality exhibit at any given time, and you can spend hours wandering around, reading placards, and smelling old books. This was one of the first places I went in NYC when I came here for the first time years ago, and its still one of my favorites.

The New York Public Library for the Performing Arts is the place to go to track down that hard to find play, soundtrack, indie movie, etc. The staff is relatively helpful and there are computer stations to look up collections. There are several collections kept here.

They have internet stations, music listening stations, and plenty of seating to get work done, or to just browse through some of their materials.
