I absolutely love CMA. I have 3 kids ages 2,6,and 9 and its the only place in the city where they can all go and there is something for everyone. There is paint and playdough and chalk for the little ones, self-portrait station, ball bond, animation, claymation for the older kids. And they always have a creative project or 2 in the open studio I even end up getting creative there. The teachers are all working artists and really engage the kids. I've loved it for years. Everyone is so relaxed. Not like a lot of places downtown that are way too structured for the kids. It's actually FUN! Also great is the "WEE" drop in class for the under 4 crowd and awesome Art Summer Camp there and on Governors Island. *****

Established in 1988, the Children's Museum of the arts is a place where young children between the ages of two and ten are encouraged to be wildly creative at. The muesum is stocked with drawing, sculpting, and materials for making costumes and puppets. They have interactive exhibits for kids to play in and make noise. They also have live shows. Admission was $8 last time I checked so it can be pricey.

If you are looking for a place to take the kids, then this is one that you should visit. The prices are reasonable, and there is a lot to see. If you are planning to visit I would make a day out of it so that you can see everything. Everyone was friendly, and of course clean. The displays are great, and my kids had a fun and educational experience. I would recommend that anyone take the time out to enjoy this. It is also very entertaining for adults.

You wouldn't want to kill a day here but your kids will be real amused for $5 each which in this town is a steal. Long tables are laid out with a variety of art supplies and your kids complete an actual art project under the tutleage of some very talented people. Just north of Little Italy and Chinatown you can easily combine this with a fun eating expedition.

PROS: Great Art Fun
CONS: Can get crowded
