So i graduated Fort Hamilton in 2008, and i must say that YES the school is over crowded and YES there are fights, but seriously show me a highschool that doesnt have fights. There will always be people who dont care about their Education and will be bullies, etc. But as a former student at this school i must say the teachers i had were dedicated and loving teachers. There was a time when i was a trouble maker and skipped classes and the teachers i had saw better in me and helped me finished my highschool education and i am PROUD to say i am a grduate of Fort Hamilton Highschool.

I just move to New York from North Carolina and i think Fort Hamilton is a Great School as far as education wise. The students are very nice towards their teachers and other students ( some times). I get along with my teachers great and if I ask a question ( which I do alot) they have no problem answering my question. I know there are fights like 24-7 but it's high school you are going to have a few kids that do not care about there education. We have some at my old school ( Garner High School ).

I graduated FHHS in 2005. There were 5,800 students in the school at the time. Out graduating class was under 500. You do the math. Also, the highlight of my day was the daily message from Principal Chester reminding students that Forth Hamilton is both "the largest high school in the country and in the nation." Wow. That being said, there are some outstanding teachers there, who helped and guided me a great deal. However, on the administrative side, there is rampant incompetence. Due to the school's inability to control any of the huge problems like overcrowding, poor academic performance by a significant portion of the student body, discouraging language barrier, high delinquency rate, and that god awful smell emanating from the cafeteria, they choose to overcompensate by making damn sure that no one is wearing a hat in the building for 5 seconds. (God forbid) Racial tension is heavy, and I would not hesitate for a second to accuse certain members of the administration of outright racial bias. It is a crying shame that some of the fantastic faculty of FHHS have to work under such conditions, and futhermore that this is the best we can offer the youth of this community.I graduated in 2005, went on to an excellent college education, and am deeply grateful to a handful of teachers, the under-staffed and under-appreciated college office, and that about sums it up. Whereas most high schools facilitate success for most and the minority choose to be screw ups, it seems that Fort Hamilton sets its students up for failure, and those who want to succeed must claw and fight for it, all while enduring an oppressive and unpleasant school atmosphere.

I honestly think that Fort Hamilton High School is an extraordinary school. My son is doing great. Although their are fights on rare occasions, it is very rare as there are fights in every school. It is one of the greatest functioning large schools in NYC. The curriculum is great, and challenging. The teachers are also very caring and try their hardest to make sure that you are learning. Regents scores were also great. That is all i have to say.

Thank You

Many people might say that Fort Hamilton is a horrible school. But in fact its not as bad as it seems. I am a current student at Fort Hamilton and I am a senior there. I have never been in a fight nor have I had any problems with any students. I am as regular as any student there. Of course you are going to deal with some students who think its necessary to prove their strength or toughness, but all you can really do is avoid interacting with students like that and you will be fine. In any school you go to there is always going to be problems. Theres no need to compare Fort Hamilton High School to Lafayette.

The front of this building is very clean and organized. The same goes for the building when I walked in. The hallways were very quiet and safe. Most of the kids usually pass on to the next grade each year, with the exception with two kids at most. The teachers and staff are very dedicated in helping the kids get the best education possible. My cousin really enjoys the enviroment and how the teachers focus on each student. Sometimes, the supplies are low and the kids have to purchase it themselves, but above all, the teaching staff is magnificent, which is mainly important for proper student mind development. Would recommend for any student looking for a good public education.

My son was deciding to go to this school but let me tell you. Thank god he didn't. This school has more fights than ever. I hear in the news that there is extreme racism and fights all the time. The school looks very overcrowded. Thats a problem at many schools these days. Also you get there by bus only. There are no trains close to there. Its a very nice neighborhood but the school is bad. My friend's kid got beat up the locker room just for standing up for himself. I don't know how it was years ago but now its a horrible place to be. Don't even talk about going to school there. Its the next closest thing to Layfayette.

I graduated from Fort Hamilton High School in the 80s, but it's changed so much that I won't set foot in the building. It is so terribly overcrowded now--I think there are something like 5,000 students, and the building is not nearly large enough. I live only a few blocks from the school, and I steer clear. There are so many wild and rowdy kids, and when they spill out onto the street, there's always trouble. I see more fights in one month than I saw during my entire 4 years there. I really feel bad for the homeowners near the school, too. They have such beautiful homes, and the students put their tags and other assorted graffiti "art" on their properties. It's a shame. I would say that if you don't have to send your kids here for high school, don't, because I would worry about their safety, and just don't see how the hard-working teachers can provide a quality education in that environment.
