A great place
I've been going to hudson place for years now. It has stayed one of my favorite restuarants ever since my first trip. The food is wonderful and the atmosphere is cozy, service and the management at it's best all at the same time.

I have been coming to Hudson Place for years and its a great understated neighborhood spot. Typically we come here for brunch and they have a great variety of breakfast and lunch options. My favorite item on their menu is their burger which always hits the spot. Their french toast is pretty yummy as well. The service can be hit or miss, but the food is solid and despite the location, its a nice, low-key dining option.

This is my neighborhood restaurant. From the management to the wait staff, Hudson Place is my favorite in my neighborhood. I have been coming to this restaurant for over a decade. I would have business lunch here, or having a drink after work, or having family celebrations. We are extremely happy every time we eat here.
Hudson Place offers a great variety of food on their menu, whether it is a salad, or pasta, or burger, or fish, or even BBQ ribs, they have them. Recently, the restaurant went through a new renovation, it is even better.
I also appreciate the fact that rather than slipping take out menu under our doors, Hudson Place spends money to mail their takeout menu to the neighborhood. A very considerate neighborhood business indeed.
Oh I forget to mention the great desserts. :-)

Is spinach tortellini that hard to make! Apparently for Hudson Place it is, because I swear that what I ordered must have been bought frozen from Costco. It was dry and cakey and salty. The bread before the meal was stale and the vodka sauce that the pasta came in had no hint of the vodka creamy flavor it should have. Service was also really lacking, the waitress rolled her eyes at me and stormed away when I told her I wasn't going to eat my pasta (mind you I didn't complain, she came to ask why it was just sitting there). I have to give them credit, they did not charge me for the dish. But really, skip the dinner at this place.

Pros: Atmosphere's ok

Cons: Service, Food

.

First of all, the food is Ok, the portions quite generous and the prices very fair. A nice neighborhood restaurant.

We live a block away from this restaurant and have been going there for over 10 years an average of 2-3 times a week. That means we used to spend about $12,000 a year in this restaurant.

We even referred to it as "Headquarters" because my partner and I used to have our weekly dinner meetings there - with our husbands.

However, in all the years that we have been going there, the management never let us have the only round table in the place - a table for 5 - they always told us that the table was reserved - even though the restaurant was empty, and it was already past 9 PM. This is not a post-movie neighborhood so by 10PM the place is dead. Nedless to say, that table always remained unoccupied all evening :-)

Also, if we celebrated a birthday at the restaurant, this management, never saw it fit to offer us a glass of wine on the house - or some other token accommodation the way most restaurants do with regular and loyal customers.

So we finally got smart and now we go there about once in a blue moon - usually as a last resort - when we're too lazy to walk another block. Or it's raining.

A classic example of how to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory.

.

Came here a few times for brunch and it was fabulous. The portions are so large my best friend and I actually split and still walk out full. The mimosas are great- not made with the cheap oj from concentrate. And service has always been very attentive as well. Its a Sunday favorite for me. Its usually pretty empty early but tends to fill up quickly around 1-2ish.

I work around this restaurant and after walking by it numerous times I decided to go in with my fiance. It was not the best, it was not the worst, it was not average. I would say this place is below average. The food was below average, the service was below average. Don?t think I would revisit this place again.

I used to come here all the time. Yesterday, I went for brunch and came down with a terrible stomach ache one hour later. I will never eat here again, which is disappointing. The food has been pretty good in the past and it was a good neighborhood brunch spot.

I realize going to a "maritime" themed restaraunt as a vegeterian makes almost no sense, but I was with meat eaters...However, LITERALLY the only non-meat dish is a simple green salad, or a more deluxe salad (with belgian endive and goat cheese....it was good). But this is New York City, not Pasins, Iowa; vegertarianism is almost as common as being a barbaric meat eater down here. Give us even just ONE entree. I'm so sick of eating nothing as an appetizer and eating my salad as my friends eat their real meal.

Also, the service was okay, but like other posters have said the food took forever to come out.... But this is the type of place that when asked "Is that soup vegetarian" they say "Yes" and follow it up with "but it has shrimp and clams in it."

Go somewhere else. I mean, unless you're into that type of thing.

Hudson Place is a pretty good place. The food is excellent & fresh. The bartenders know how to make an excellent drink. I'm a REALLY picky Martini guy & each time I've been to HP it's made to perfection. Considering the high quality of the food & drink HP is bargain.

The drawbacks to HP are the lousy decor, ambiance that feels like a Houlihans & service that can range from OK to lousy. The last time we were there the hostess looked on as a woman allowed her screaming 3 year old to climb up a little wall next to us & drool on our table. To get the inattentive parents attention we just started peppering our conversation with the "F" word. She scopped up her little brat & got him far away fast.

The excellent, modestly priced food (including desserts) deserve better decor & better servers.

Truly the most seductive menu in the neighborhood. Compliments to the chef - Hudson Place has one of the best crab cakes one may find outside of New England, and the steaks give a really explosive taste. Service is great, as the waiters are all friendly, food takes a while to be prepared, but the atmosphere of the place allows one to divulge into great conversations. Once a little secret of mine, now a neighborhood pleaser.

I ate at Hudson Place for the first time last week as it was recommended to me by a friend. I was very impressed by the promptness by which we were greeted and seated. The restaurant exudes a charm about it in its naval outfitting, warm wood and brick walls, and relaxing lighting. The bar is non-intrusive and I imagine great for an after work drink. The food was delicious. I had their seared yellow fin tuna which was well-cooked and flavorful. Oh and please do try their cheesecake. Furthermore, their prices are extremely reasonable. This place is a gem and is not to be missed.

My friends and I have been coming to this restaurant for the past several years every time we visit New York. It is still one of my favorite restaurants in NYC! Sure, nothing is perfect but 9 out of 10 pleasant experience isn't bad, compare with some of the high profile restaurants you have in NYC. The friendly staff, healthy portion of wines by the glass and the menu selection make the place popular.

For weeks, I have been walking by this place and admiring the posted menu and prices. I finally tried the Sunday Brunch. What a mistake. First, we waited 40 minutes for our food, but after a thrity minute wait, the waitress asked me to clarify what I had ordered (I ordered off their menu, with no changes). Then our three entrees arrived, and were luke warm at best....the food wasn't inspirational as described in the menu. Not surprisingly, when we were done, the check arrived almost immediately. We did complain to the manager, but she just said "there are problems in the kitchen" and took the drinks off bill. The only time I will ever return to this joint, is if they hang a banner outside that states :Under new management".

Hudson Place looked like a great neighborhood place: always busy, nice decor, inventive, full menu. However, upon trying it I was a bit disappointed. The seafood risotto I had was a little too soupy for my liking. My dining companions Lobster was a little overcooked and ravioli a little too cheesy. The bottle of wine we split however, was excellent. Prices weren't as high as I thought they might be. Overall, I'm still not sure about the place but, I'm willing to give it another try.

This place was awful for so many different reasons. It took a long time for a host to appear to seat us. I wanted to order an extra dish to split with my friend. I was told that I would be charged for two dishes if I wanted the pancakes split beforehand. In addition, they brought my friend the wrong dish, didn't apologize and it took at least a half an hour till the new dish arrived. Save your money and time, go someplace else.

I cannot say enough good things about the restaurant Hudson Place on Third Avenue at 36th Street.

This is a quiet neighborhood restaurant that is also fun and hip. The meals are excellent, and there is often a rich variety of choices on the specials menu.

Its always a pleasure to visit Hudson Place, and I recommend it heartily.

I was recently introduced to this place by a friend, and I have to say that it is now one of my favorites. The food is just delicious--there are large portions and they are very reasonably priced. I recommend the Maryland crab cakes, fried calamari, and the roasted cornish hen, although last week I had the lobster with ravioli and baby spinach and truffle oil and it was also excellent. I love the decor. Warm, soft light, white brick, black ceiling fans and a 'Hudson' theme. The service is good--friendly hostess and attentive waitstaff. During busy hours, take a seat at the bar first--I've honestly had one of the best Cosmopolitans ever here. I would say that this is a restaurant to take a date, or business associates or friends.

A true neighborhood gem. For almost two decades, Hudson Place has been one of my New York eats secret. This place 'harbors' excellent food, prepared with observation to detail, and although a bistro, Hudson Place boasts the best seafood in the neighborhood.
The atmosphere is business casual, very family friendly, and give an early-twentieth century New York City vibe (which personally, I am a big fan of.)

Great place to stop by for lunch, after work, showing out-of-towners what a REAL New York restaurant is, and definitely a 2nd date spot. (For all you bachelors out there, get the booth!)

So bring your friends, bring your family, bring that special someone, or just come chat it up at the bar! I know I'll be there.

Hudson Place is a pleasant restaurant to eat in, with a very helpful waitstaff. It isn't that expensive. The price for an average entree ranges from $12-20 and includes anywhere from salads and pastas to Black Angus steaks. The lighting is a little dark, but makes the atmosphere calm and pleasant. The only thing to watch out for is when ordering to go or delivery. For some reason, they are less careful about how they handle the food and are more apt to mistakes. My last order they put in stale hard bread as a side and snuck in expensive water instead of something else and didn't tell me of their "last minute" price change. Make sure they give you what you asked for or return it!

PROS: Great seafood salads, steaks
CONS: A lot of delivery errors

We recently held a 25-person birthday party/brunch at Hudson Place. The back room (private) looked beautiful and was arranged perfectly for the amount of people. The staff/service was so attentive and did a great job. The brunch menu designed for the party gave several options and the food was delicious. Everything went smoothly and I would strongly recommend this restaurant for group reservations. A+

This restaurant is great for large groups. I went with 5 of my girlfriends. We called 30 minutes before to make a reservation and they had the table ready soon after we arrived. The food was really good, although I don't recomment the salmon pasta dish. That's what I ordered and it was like smoked salmon heated up on pasta with sundried tomatoes, spinach and no kind of sauce. Not too tasty. Some of my friends got the lobster and ravioli, which was GREAT! The service was okay but we had to wait forever for our order to be served.

I'm not Hudson Place's biggest fan. We were able to get a table right away on Friday night, but we only saw our server twice and he failed to give us the specials, we overheard him tell the table right next to us after we had ordered and were already into our salads. It took forever to get someone's attention for another drink and to collect the check.

Went on a Saturday night and had no problems getting a table. The burgers were excellent and the rest of the menu looked good. Service was too slow for my taste...it shouldn't take 20 minutes to get another drink and another 15 to get the bill. Nice decor and not too noisy.
