Me & the wife love Le Pain Quotidien. But we tried a new location this past weekend. (50 West, 72nd Street)
We were given a table that was close to the kitchen, and the Restrooms. My wife was watching one of the kitchen staff preparing food, he was cutting bread, then he stopped and bent down to straighten the rubber floor mat with his hands, and then continued to cut the bread and prepare the food. Then i noticed another staff member from the kitchen walk into the restroom wearing his latex gloves, and after doing his business, came out still wearing the gloves.
I hope the manager reads this review and takes action to fix these unsanitary issues.
We still love the food, but we won't return to this location.

                      Pros: great service and food

                      Cons: poor hygiene

                      .

Wonderful food and the service was pretty good right up till the moment came to get the check. It took forever for me to catch his eye and when I did, he brought the check, he never came back. I ended up paying another waiter. I should have given the tip to the guy I paid. The guy still got 15% but he could have done much better.

The food was very good, fresh and interesting without being too wierd. I'll go back.

Love this place. Good food, good coffee, nice light menu, cool communal seating, the whole pacakage is warm and inviting. Just one complaint. There is one single toilet. One morning I waited in line 15 min, then it was my wifes turn, she waited for 15 minutes. We were there for an hour but only sat with each other for 30 minutes.

My friends and I used to be regulars at this place. We liked the food and the ambience. We went back this past weekend though, and the hostess was incredibly rude. Right after we paid our check she asked us leave because she needed the table. Le Pain will not be getting our business again.

I work in this neighborhood and this is one of the few places I liked to get lunch from, except after several visits I simply can't go in here anymore. At lunchtime it's complete chaos (for take-out; admittedly I haven't eaten in the dining area); there is no system for ordering, paying, or actually receiving your food. It's impossible to tell which group of confused people is waiting to sit and which is waiting to order take-out. The take-out counter staff are friendly but disorganized and confused and since there's no real place to form a line, patrons can't tell if the mess of people has ordered, has paid, or is still waiting to order (subsequently you get a lot of line cutting). The food takes ages to come out and people are constantly asking if their order is ready, thinking they have been forgotten. This is sad because the food is great; the lunch tartines are big and wholesome, and the baked goods are sinful and delicious. I think "wait here to be seated", "order here", and "pick up food here" signs would make a world of difference in getting this place in shape.

This is the best bread I have eaten since I left Germany. A little pricey but there is no better out there.

I LOVE PQ! The huge communal table feels so cozy. The enormous bowls of coffee always piping hot. The assorted bread basket can get you through a long morning of meetings. Whenever I can, I arrange to have meetings at PQ. Hazelnut spread is divine.

I always remember the first time I ate Le Pain Quotidien's organic wheat bread. It's so yummy and now everytime I go to work and I am not late, I have to make sure to stop there and buy them for me and my coworkers. They all love the bread there. Of course, the bakery has other yummy foods. They are all organic and healthy and so delicious. Be sure to stop there. You will love it

This is a very comfortable setup. It mingles art with food to the maximum. Makes you feel good about eating because all ingredients are super fresh and organic and everything tastes fabulous. This restaurant also has the best French Baguette among other organic breads and pastries. As for the food presentation; it's pretty enough to take a picture ...

The restaurant has a very "Provence" feeling, with wooden Bistro tables and a huge community table. This restaurant has become an "Institution" for organic dining and is very busy. Try the organig egg sandwich or basil pesto chicken tartine, or sample the daily specials. The confiture are out of this world. Dining here is a pleasurable experience. Bon Appetit!

The everyday pain. I call to find out what their daily soup is and they can't get someone who is polite or communicates properly to answer the phone. When I go in, there are always about five people hanging around waiting for their food while about eight employees try to fill the same order. This place has great soup, delicious pastries, and great biodegradable potato starch cutlery but everything else is pure garbage.

Everytime I go into this place the employess cannot understand what it is I want. If I ask for white bread they give me wheat, if I ask for butter they give me one tiny packet, and they will not give you any salt.
This is like the Kinkos of Belgian bakeries

This is the closest to real French pastries I have found. The raspberry tart is almost as good as those I had when I studied in France. The bread is quite good and I am partial to their tuna sandwich and they always have delicous soups. Brunch is great too - I recommend the bread basket that comes with a delicious hazlenut spread - sort of like Nutella but without the chocolate, and two delicious jams. Great cafe au lait as well. I love this place!

Ordered a few pastries to go and service was extremely unprofessional. The lady behind the counter had no clue what she was doing. On top of that, she soaked my cake with coffee by accident and I had only realized it when I was miles away from the restaurant. I had to throw the whole thing out. What a waste. Their lemon tart and chocolate chip cookie is pretty good though. Will not go back.

Hands down this is the warmest place to be on a blustery New York City day. The front end of this location is filled with communal tables where you are seated and may even strike up a great conversation with neighbors.

Another section of the front end is a cafe/bakery that boasts delicious, fresh baked breads, cookies, and European chocolates.

The back section is comprised of regular restaurant tables and where the cooks/bakers get everything done. We were lucky to sit right next to a basket full of fresh loaves made with allsorts of ingredients; and the jams at the tables were absolutely tasty.

Hands down, the Mocha has the tastiest belgium chocolate infused into , and you cannot help but order another. Do not leave New York City without trying this place out!

                      PROS: Mocha

The food is decent but the wait staff on Saturdays are unbelievably rude. The service was bad and everytime we asked where our food was etc. we were told that the restuarant was busy - no apologies or smiles. They obviously have not come to terms with the fact that they are wait staff and their job is to ensure good service. There are too many good restuarants in New York to put up with service like this.

This is a great place to go for lunch or dinner for those who don't want to spend more than $15 on a drink and a meal. The sandwiches are divine, and the bread is obviously fresh. The setting is relaxing. (probably not for the very picky eater, but the staff is so nice that they will probably do what they can to help out.) A block from the Central Park 72nd St. entrance, and about 2 blocks from the subway.

                      Message from Le Pain Quotidien

We’re a Belgian bakery and restaurant serving simple, wholesome and seasonal food. Le Pain Quotidien means “the daily bread” in French, and like our name suggests, we’re bakers at heart. Although our handmade, organic bread is how we got our start, we serve a variety of healthy options like organic coffee, pastries, eggs, tartines, soups, salads and desserts.

At Le Pain Quotidien, we believe that food should be simple, nourishing and delicious. That’s why we source ingredients that are local or organic whenever possible. We also believe in the importance of eating a healthy, plant-based diet, so you’ll find many vegetarian or vegan options on our menu.
