Wow, I am amazed at some of the negative reviews here and can't believe we are talking about the same place. I have been going to SMS for about 11 years and love it -- I moved here after living in several larger cities including Chicago

I tried Scott Miller's model program nearly 10 years ago, with the promise that, although the stylists were new, they had trainers who were spectacular and would ensure everything would be great - regardless. My hair ended up bleached out orange-yellow and severely damaged. I never went back...

Until, recently. I saw a few girls all dressed up and stylish with cute hair. I asked them where they'd gotten it done: Scott Miller. They gave me a gift card to try again, so I did.

I loved the cut, but the highlight was a bit more bleached than I wanted. Not horrible, though. Since I loved the cut, I figured I could go back, explain (and by showing my lower hair, which was still had the former highlights - warm - not brassy orange or white) and explain that I wanted it to be less bleached and closer to what I had had before. I saw her come out with bleach and cringed, but thought I'd let he do her work as the other girls had looked good. It came out VERY chunky white-yellow-orange and was very different than the bottom of my hair. It smelled like chemicals for weeks!

When I went in to ask about having it fixed, I was given an exceedingly (unprofessional) hard time on the front floor (in front of all the customers) telling me that I had apparently not had a good time with Scott Miller and should go elsewhere! Somehow I felt compelled to calmly tell her that wasn't appropriate and that I'd like it fixed. (Just to reinforce, this was a color manager speaking to me this way).

She did finally concede that new work absolutely didn't match my last highlight, wasn't good for my coloring and was very bleached looking (orange, yellow and white on the same strands - numerous hot spots at the roots). Although we initially set up an appointment for a redo, I felt very uncomfortable putting myself into the hands of someone who had behaved so badly, so I cancelled.

With such an experience, I suppose it was stupid to even consider going back. But, I really did like the hair-cutter. I called to get a bang trim (which clients are entitled to) some months later, they told me they weren't allowed to schedule an appointment with me. What?! Are you kidding me?!

Unbelievable. Shameful.

This is the very first negative review I've ever written online. I usually don't care that much, but I think this was the worst customer service I've ever experienced. I think they're horrible.

I purchased a Groupon for this salon for a pedicure and made an appointment. Unfortunately, I needed to change the appointment and was told that I could not... they sold too many Groupons and couldn't accommodate me. It seems to me they should have limited their sales based on how many they could accomodate prior to the expiration. Poor planning. I wasn't impressed when I went there a few years ago for hair and I certainly won't attempt to go there for a pedicure or any other service after receiving such poor customer service.

This is now my second time getting my hair cut through Scott Miller's model program and have no complaints. I had my hair cut with Alex and she did a wonderful job. She was very engaged and made me feel very comfortable. The stylists who cut for the model program are up and coming stylists that are currently in 1 to 2 years of training before they are allowed to take their own clients. I have never heard of such a thing!! I will continue to come back.

I've gone to Scott Miller for 10 years. I recently stopped going there for color , as it just got too high and I was tired of all the product sales pitches.
Today I went for a "refresher " faical and found it a complete waste of money. It was quick, and the majority if the appointment was selling me the products they were using. I felt like I should be at one of those free makeovers in the dept stores, where the whole purpose isto sell. Except this wasn't free-it was a sales pitch I got to pay 50 dollars to hear. Never again.

As much as I tried to like this salon, I have to say I'm taking some of my business elsewhere. While I love my colorist, putting up with a third price increase in a little over a year is just too much. I've also noticed the color doesnt seem to last, I've resorted to home touchups for the gray showing at 3 weeks. I have switched to another salon for my haircuts, because the cuts I was getting at Scott Miller were atrocious, I could do nothing with the cut. I've been blow drying my hair for 30 years, so I know what I'm doing, and the cut I was receiving was literally chopped pieces throughout my head. Try rolling a brush through uneven, chopped hair, its impossible, half of it falls out of the brush before you can attempt to dry it. When I pointed this chopping to the stylist at my last visit with her, even she looked through my hair and commented on how random it was cut (and she was the one that cut it). My main complaints are definitely the price and the constant upselling for products. I remember one instance where, either a Bumble and Bumble rep or a Bobbi Brown rep was coming in to do a demo, and for $40 or so, you could meet with the rep (I think they would then credit $25 of your $40 toward products); I was offered this opportunity no less than 5 times, it was very annoying everytime I or my daughter stepped into the salon I had to decline the offer yet again. I will say, however, I have never found any of the staff to be snooty or arrogant as others have commented. They've always been very friendly and helpful, always smiling, and even the reception staff remember you by name after only one or two visits.

I cannot believe the negative reviews I read here!

I have been a regular customer for 15 years - have strongly recommended them to friends and colleagues - and trust Scott Miller enough to even send my mom and daughter there! Not one of these people has been anything but DELIGHTED with their experience at Scott Miller Salon.

Yes, occasionally mistakes have happened. No one's perfect. However, the few times I have had to raise a concern, I have received extraordinary resolution to the problem, and have been dealt with dignity and warmth.

However, if you don't have the backbone to raise your concern in person with them, how can a proper resolution be achieved? The folks there are friendly and approachable. There's no excuse not to talk to them except for one's preference to anonymously complain.

I'd rather focus on the exceptional haircuts, waxings, nail services, skin care consultations and family atmosphere that I have experienced 99% of the time at Scott Miller.

If you trust yourself to be able to truly dialogue, you can trust Scott Miller Salon to deliver the same exceptional results for you.

Was hopeful and expecting a little more skill in terms of waxing- not entirely disappointed...but definely not wow work- I may give another try eventually because everyone was very nice and time efficient....and the prices are fair. Service itself was not met w/ a lot of expertise.

This salon is the most amazing salon I've been to and I have been to many salons across the US! All the colorists and stylists that work there are highly trained and train for 1-2 years before taking clients. They are so knowledgeable and helpful in every aspect. I love this place! the hostesses and coordinators in the salon also have knowledge on the products and make-up and are always more than willing to help you find what you need. Everyone there is very down to earth and not rude or snobby contrary to some of the reviews. The assistants working also are just wonderful! they give excellent shampoos and do a beautiful job styling the hair! I am in the salon every week for services in the salon and the spa. It's a wonderful experience! I recommend Scott Miller in Pittsford or Webster to Everyone! the price you will pay is well worth every single penny!!!

From some of the negative reviews here, I would think they were talking about a completely different salon. I have been going to Scott Miller for 3 1/2 years now and quite frequently. Not once has anyone ever been less than cheerful, friendly and helpful, from the greeters at the front door, to the young women when I check out.

Sarah is the best in the color department. And Maria has give me the best haircuts ever. Whenever Jason has washed and finished my hair, I get non-stop compliments.

Pricey? Yes. Worth it? Absolutely, every penny for me.

I had heard great things regarding this salon. i found the stylists to be rude and conceited . As I sat waiting for my appt.,2 of the stylists discussed makeup and looked at themselves in the mirror for 15 minutes. The cut I finally got was a bit uneven and not what I asked for. I left before the stylist could cut more off and totally ruin my hair! The price was ridiculous,I have had better cuts at the Hair Zoo, and for half the price. dont waste your time and money....

I have been seeing Lee at Scott Miller for about 8 years now. He is a great cutter( razor and scissor). He has a great eye for hair design. I've never had a bad experience with him. I've been colored , manicured, pedicured, massaged, waxed, and body scrubbed there and have only had one negative experience ( one massuse bruised me during deep tissue massage. I let the owner know and I was given a gift card for the cost of the massage, and the massuse was let go- she had other complaints, too). Hillary is great with spa services and Cindy is great with nails. I love that the stylists have frequent workshops with the reps from bumble and bumble, to keep up with the styles.
I have been to alot of salons over the years and have always been thrilled with Scott Miller Salon.
Yes, the front desk girls can be a tad aloof .

I was feeling pretty bad about my hair and called on a Monday on the off-chance I could get in on the same day. What impressed me initially was the friendly operator. Not only did she check the schedules at both locations, to which she had full access, she asked me about my hair and had some thoughts about who the appropriate stylist would be. She had me leave a number then, as promised, she called me back within minutes to inform me of a cancellation, and to let me know that the person that would see me would also be a good candidate for me, even though it wasn't the person she originally was thinking of for me (I have special needs with my hair!). I got in within the hour. Upon my arrival the whole staff was friendly, professional and natural. (I don't know why anyone would think otherwise!) My stylist, Nicole, was an incredible listener. She was forthcoming with advice and lessons, and made wonderful suggestions. She didn't cut any more than was necessary, and was cautious and respectful. When I wanted a little more cut off she obliged with ease. I felt very privileged to be in the care of such a great stylist. She is a terrific person and the experience was excellent. The price for a wash and cut: $37---was I dreaming? The cut was worth way more! It made me feel good about leaving a really big tip. I am definitely going back there again.

I don't understand all of the negative reviews here! I have been to this salon 3 times so far (for massage, manicure and hair cut & color). All of the times have been there have been great! The stylists are wonderful and really know their stuff! Their product lines are the best around (Kerastase, Bumble & Bumble). They are a tad pricey, however, any nice salon is expensive. Totally worth the pricetag!

I was a client at Scott Miller's for years until a newer colorist damaged my hair beyond repair. I did feel bad for the boy because I knew he was upset, but the supervisors saw what he was doing and never stopped him. Now I will never go back because I feel the customer service was heart breaking. I was devastated. My hair broke off into a ridiculous boy cut that did not look good, even after a trim. I am still growing out the damage to cut off and it has been four months. My hair is just too short to take it all off at once now.
The saddest part for me is that I can't allow myself to spend another cent there because I felt so horrible about myself after this preventable disaster. Some of the stylists are talented and educated. I very badly miss Dan who is great at cutting.
Because I was left with fishing line for hair, I can't recommend them. I now go to Michael Avery in the city. It is a lovely place and they have very genuine people there.
Thank you.

Just moved from NYC and really nervous to find a new salon, one of my friends recommended a bumble and bumble salon Scott Miller. so i thought great i will give it a try! As soon as i walked in i was greated by two very sweet girls to check in. I was then comfortably seated to enjoy coffee, water, and even chocolate! My stylist was really nice and full of energy and she listened to everything i wanted and even added her ideas which made my haircut look so much more modern. She cut both with scissors and razor..and it turned out WONDERFUL!I loved this place and i already schedule my next appointment!

I had a gift certificate for color and Haircut. Explained exactly about the color and brought in a picture. It came out totally different. The haircut was terrible and the person styling my hair and no clue how to do it. . I have short hair with an eay style so there should have not been a problem. I would never go back.

I agree with the poor reviews. This is place is totally hyped up. I got a hair cut in FEB 07' and Im still trying to fix the mess that they did. Too expensive, definitely not worth it. Im originally from Miami, Fl. If only I could go back and get a haircut there.

I'm not really sure which Scott Miller the people bashing it have been to, but it's certainly not the one i frequent. The staff is always friendly and incredibly helpful! They are always holding a training class in the salon or going to NYC to train at some academy. I have never had a bad service there. My hair always looks terrific, even with a stylist that only charges $35. Everyone has the same training and like Lorraine said, no one is right out of hair school. If you are unhappy, they are more than happy to adjust your cut or color so that you're happy. they really go out of their way to make me feel great. I get wonderful service from the women working in the store whenever i have a question about makeup. i just went to the new sephora in eastview mall, and i will never go back. unlike at scott miller, the sales staff at sephora is annoying and unknowledgeable about their products. plus i waited on line for 15 minutes to complete my purchase. that never happens at Scott Miller. SM is also the only place in rochester that carries my favorite makeup, Bobbi Brown. To those people who bashed scott miller, i strongly encourage you to give it another try. maybe you hit it on a bad day, but i always have a great time there. it's one of the nice salons i have been to, and i've been to a lot!

Scott Miller really is a great place. I frequently go there for all my services. They have the best massages in town! I always feel pampered when i get my hair done or have a pedicure there. The people who work there are so nice and friendly. My favorite part is their makeup! they have great lines like NARS and Bobbi Brown (which you can't get anywhere in Rochester, not even Sephora). Best of all though, their makeup artists are talented and very well trained. They know all the brands and always offer exceptional service. I never have to wait in line or feel like i'm an inconvenience to the receptionists. I really feel great when i leave there. I'm happy there's such a place in town!

Pros: kind, friendly, knowledgeable staff

Cons: can be a bit tricky to book because they're in such high demand

.

lousy haircut experience, very average massage, and the only semi-good experience was the pedicure. way overpriced, too.

This salon is anything but dumpy. I have been a client of Scott miller for over a year now. I have never gotten compliments on my hair before and now I get stopped everywhere I go! Even my husband who never notices anything has said how my hair looks great! The salon is warm and welcoming. The employees are extremely friendly. The prices are comparable to the surrounding salons- except at Scott miller you are not getting girls right out of beauty school cutting/coloring your hair. My hairdresser said that they train 2 years for coloring and 1 year for cutting! She tells me what would look good with my face shape and skin tone! They don't throw the same haircut on everyone!! Try Scott Miller and you will never leave!! It's Wonderful!!!! I JUST FOUND OUT SCOTT MILLER IS COMING TO WEBSTER!!!!!!

I have been reading the reviews of Scott Miller salon. I have to tell you that yes they are a little pricy but I have a gal that does my facials and she is TEREFFIC. I have done a message as well as a predicure and reflexolgy. I have not found any one person at that salon to be rude, not take there time or introduce themselves upon your visit. I have no problem getting an appointment when I need it and I find them to be very caring. I have to disagree with most of the reviews I have read. You should look at the reason why you think they are rude.

I have tried this Salon, three times, hoping that it could live up to all the Hipe! It has been a letdown
each time. I live in NYC, where you demand excellance and great service, so hoping for that experience
at this salon, I got neither. The staff is uppity, obnoxious and very small minded. The haircutters use
razor's and are not skilled in scissor cuts at all(as it takes more skill to be great with scissors), and to top it
off it is located in a very boring strip mall, next to Marshalls Department store!

Although it's decor is modern and somewhat hip, that is as good as it gets. Save your money (very overpriced) and your time and go somewhere else. I know I will.

Cons: Bad Service, Bad Haircuts and a Lot of Attitude

This is the most overpriced mess I've ever been to. The stylist used a razor to cut my hair and was obviously untrained. It was a disaster.

The "salon" has an industrial feel to it and it not a nice place to be.

You will pay heavy money for a terrible cut and surly, arrogant "service."

It is a situation of extreme arrogance masking inexperience and lack of knowledge.

I've had mixed experiences with hairstylists there, I got one haircut that I totally hated, and it was not what I asked for. But the nice thing was, they scheduled me again to get it fixed, and I did have the option of getting a different stylist. I was glad I did, because the next stylist was great.

In response to the "ouch" posting above - I don't think that Scott Miller is necessarily at fault for a person's skin's sensitivity to waxing. I think it's a common problem. I often break out after getting waxed, and I'm pretty sure that the soothing after cream is at fault. I don't know which ingredient causes the problem, or which salons' products will bother my skin, but I've found if I just don't let them put that stuff on after the waxing, then I have less of a problem.

I've been to Scott Miller a couple of times and the best experience I had was with Courtney - an amazing, ne magical, massage therapist! As an athlete, I often have trouble finding someone willing to be as firm as I need. I had a deep tissue massage and Courtney made me feel like a new woman! If I was rich, I think I might hire her to move in with me!! I highly recommend her! My mom-in-law also goes there for regular hair appointments. The last stylist she had was Lee and he is also remarkable!! She looked like she had been on one of those make-over shows after he was done! He somehow figures out how to cut hair to make it fall just perfectly. No fuss, no headaches! That is a gift!!

Pros: Great craftmanship! Good internal ambience. Everyone is super friendly.

Cons: Rough looking plaza and parking lot; Kind of pricey (but worth it if you've got it!)

I've been to the Scott Miller salon for a haircut a few times and have been overall satisfied with the results. Definitely not the best haircut I have ever had, but definitely one of the best in Rochester. The only down-side is the price. Might be a good place to go if you are making a drastic change in hairstyle, or want some good styling tips, but if you are just in need of a trim here and there, it might not be worth it.

I started going to Scott Miller back when they were in Fairport. I was a customer for years. I loved my stylist, who eventually opened his own salon in Penfield. After college, I went back to Scott Miller. Then they built the new salon in Pittsford and everything changed. Their opinion of themselves is vastly overblown. The staff became rude and almost surly. It could take a month to get an appointment with a junior stylist. The Bumble & Bumble was nice since I didn't have to order it online anymore, but after being treated rudely one too many times, I stopped going back. They charge prices that might not turn heads in NYC, but in Rochester, come on. $125 for a haircut and highlights? I get the same thing across the street for less than half.

PROS: Big location, plenty of parking.
CONS: Snotty and overpriced.

I have had the luxory of going to Scott Millers a few times. They are a fantastic salon. They hire the best trained stylists who are up to date on the latest styles and trends. Everytime I leave there I feel like a million bucks. They can get pricey but worth every penny.

You will get excellent service at this salon. But you won't get a snobby attitude, which is important to me. Their stylists and colorists are excellent. And they have the latest products to try. This is the first place I ever used the hair was that is now an essential part of my hair styling routine. Now you can find the stuff everywhere, but they were one of the first to have it. It can be pricey compared to other salons, but I thought it was worth it when I lived there.

I have been going to Scott Miller for over 2 years now and I have been extremely happy every time. Scott Miller is more expensive then other places, but with that price you get a calm atmosphere, a great haircut, and other services. They also have a very nice website to look at all the products and prices.

Went in for a brow waxing....i have never experienced that much pain during a waxing before. Woke up the next day with red bumps all over my brow line. Never had that happen either. I'm used to the waxer using oil to remove all the wax after the procedure...here they used some type of thick ointment. Very strange compared to my other experiences. Next time will go someplace else.

More about Scott Miller Salon & Spa

In 1985 Scott and Helen Miller opened a small salon in the village of Fairport with one simple goal: to provide the best service possible. The Millers envisioned a beauty resource for western New York β?? a place where creativity would flourish and clients would be treated like royalty; where style would be up-to-the-minute and education would be ongoing. They found many like-minded individuals to join them, and the salon was bursting at the seams by 1998 when Scott and Helen decided to move the operation to 3340 Monroe Ave. The newly christened β??Scott Millerβ? was an oasis of taste and sophistication. Until then, brands like Bumble and bumble, Bobbi Brown, NARS, and Acqua di Parma were only to be found in metropolitan boutiques hours away. Now they were in easy reach along with a caring, courteous, knowledgeable staff. Our primary goal at Scott Miller has always been to provide our clients with an outstanding experience, so if your exploring for the first time or have been coming to us for years we hope to see you soon!!!
