I went to the store, and the person who helped us was extremely rude. I complained about her to the company, but they had no apology or anything. I felt truly sorry for them. It is no doubt that they carry so many wonderful things, but I value customer services more than how many wonderful things they carry.

How great is Broadway Panhandler? Phenomenal. Unobtrusive hidden marvel in the heart of Manhattan. If you're just starting out dredging the cooking waters, talk to any one of their knowledgeable staff about your needs (food items, basic pots, pans, knives, assorted utensils, cookbooks, aprons---anything cooking related) and they will help you in a flash. No stuffy types here, just happy foodies willing to help you. If you are already a food Sensei aka Martha personified, you're welcome too!

Besides the fact the store is full of every utensil ever made (at substantially lower prices than certain hoity toity catalog retailers who shall rename nameless, they have a clearance section, a bargain bin and DEMONSTRATIONS! How weird is that? Demonstrations of items they sell in the store. Well duh. Wish more stores would do this. It's also not unusual to stumble onto a class or two or an author signing that food-related book. I've come here many times seeking to replenish deceased utensils that I've um put out of their miseries, and I can always rely on this store to have them.

PROS: Beautiful Store, Affordable prices, Extensive Selection, Late hours
CONS: none at all

Broadway Panhandler is where you If you're looking for that strangely shaped frying pan or a simple spatula, this store can provide what you need at a reasonable price. They do have great specials and you can get some very top notch merchandise for great prices. The knife counter has friendly people willing to help you find and inform about everything you need to know about the hundreds of different knifes on display. Sometimes on weekends there are cooking demonstrations, too, so stop by if you're wandering around on a Saturday, and maybe you'll score some free food.

For the home chef that does everything from sauteing to poaching to baking, this store has an awesome stock of medium to high-quality cookware and bakeware. The staff is really nice, friendly, and most importantly enthusiastic about cooking. This is also a great place to have your cooking knives professionally sharpened - with use of a sharpening rod your knives will be sharp for up to a year. The Le Creuset (Porcelain covered cast iron) cookware selection is great, and the prices are definitely better than Williams-Sonoma.

PROS: Nice staff, decent prices, great selection.
CONS: Not always as organized as the typical boring chain store.
