Perfect spot for a lively bar with great music. It's FREE and it's honestly the best--live music on the block. Plus great drinks & friendly staff. Took so many pics @ their photobooth too. Love this place!\r

I was bored Wednesday night and stumbled into the Living Room. Seriously I have been missing out not frequenting this place regularly. I heard that theyre moving in August, which is super sad, but in the mean time I plan on seeing more

I usually don't write reviews, but after my amazing night at The Living Room, I just had too. I wanted to give a new bar a try and I was walking by and saw a music lineup that had familiar names on it. When i found out there was no cover

This place is awesome! There's a front bar area that always has a great playlist on and in the back, there is free live music! Most of them are local musicians that I've never heard before, but all sound pretty good.

I like trying new places in the city for drinks and live music, but I can't help but come back here over and over again. Maybe I'm a sucker for the nice ambiance with dim candles everywhere... but more likely I just love the cheap drinks

I love seeing shows at The Living Room. I'm a bit of an audiophile so when I go to see music, an enthusiastic performance is not always enough. The Living Room seems to be one of a short list of local venues that have attentive sound guys

Everything about the living room is warm and welcoming. The people there are hearty, down to earth, and genuinely unassuming. The artists I??ve seen there have always been captivating. The low stage makes it super intimate too. The cute waitress that worked there on Thursday night didn't hurt either.

Really cool music, a low key atmosphere, two floors for performances and a Photobooth! The Living Room is the place to go on the lower east side. A friend of mine told me about it, so I went to go check it out and since then I??ve fallen in love with the place.

The Living Room is the my fave place on Ludlow to hang out. Pianos isn??t so bad, just the guys that hangout there are kinda pushy. I??d really prefer The Living Room because it??s low key. I like that you can talk with your friends and not have to deal with annoying people. The staff is super friendly. I wish I lived closer so that I can be a regular.

It??s a Monday night and you have no idea where to go? Go to the Living Room on the Lower East Side. It??s guaranteed to have awesome bands playing every night with drinks at a chill, cozy bar. I??ve loved coming to the Living Room for two years now and I??m never disappointed. There are always really fun and unique people to chat with at the bar, and the staff is always friendly. DEF recommend coming here!!

A true ??hidden treasure? among the masses. It??s unfortunate that this gem is sandwiched between frat jocks and hipsters. The night I went there was no cover, which means the money you earn can stay in your pocket! They have a decent drink menu at a cheaper price than most other places. I found out that you can even find drink specials via Twitter. Five bucks got me a beer and a shot! Plus, I didn??t want to stand for a show and they had decent seating. There should be more places like this.

My second time at the Living Room was even better than the first! I brought some friends with me and they were impressed with the chill atmosphere and the quality of the bands. Not to mention the staff was very nice and they seemed to have a genuine love for their jobs. It was a little crowded but it never got uncomfortable. I??ll definitely be making another trip with even more friends!

I really liked checking out this small music venue on the Lower East Side. I went to see a new artist I had heard about and got a really great show for the price of a drink. There was plenty of seating, the acoustics were great and the staff was friendly. I would definitely go back.

This place is sweet! I was completely set on bar hopping all night, but I landed in the Living Room and couldn't leave! The atmosphere is really relaxed and I didn't have to yell over the music that was being performed in a different part of the bar. There's a one drink minimum but no cover charge, and after seeing their beer selection I knew i'd be there for more than one!

Unfortunately, this place used to be good but I guess since Nora Jones put it on the map, the Bridge and Tunnel crowd have found it and the staff treats everyone like they should feel lucky to be served by them. I wouldn't waste my time going back. There are too many other credible establishments who appreciate the neighborhood people.

Cons: The Staff

I just heard the P*nch Brothers (* = u. This site won't let me use that violent word...). Anyway, it was my first time. They were fantastic, and the sound was immaculate. The only problems were logistical. I waited in a very hot, uncomfortable line snaking up the stairs for an hour and fifteen minutes (house opened late) and then watched helplessly as 50 people who hadn't been in line swooped in and took all the seats. I stood in the back of the room behind a pillar and tried to see the plasma screen. Throughout, the wait staff (who can't be paid enough to deal with the mayhem they're supposed to deliver drinks in) reprimanded me for sitting on the stairs or putting my whiskey on their "clearing counter".

I?ve been going to the LR for a few months now, and it?s been consistently good. All the acts I?ve seen have been good, and on most nights there is no cover. Except for a 1 drink minimum, but I always have a couple of drinks anyway.
What can I say, the LR has a cool atmosphere, good staff, and good music. That?s all I need for a night out

This place has it all: Great music, a great selection of drinks, and a great staff. The staff very helpful and super friendly unlike some other places. If you like hearing new music and finding out about local artists in a great atmosphere this is the place to be! It is hard for me to find a place that I feel comfortable in, but I found The Living Room to be a great place to spend the night hanging out with some friends. I highly recommend you try this place out; you won't be sorry.

In the movie Into The Wild, Emile Hirsch's character Christopher McCandless says "she was here on earth to grasp the meaning of its wild enchantment, and to call each thing by its right name," and the Living Room is clearly the right name for this intimate and cozy venue. If you want to hear new up and coming singer-songwriters than the Living Room is the place to be. There is a one drink minimum, but drinks are affordable, and there is usually not a cover charge, and if there is one it's about $10, so for a night out on the Lower East Side this is extremely reasonable. The place is in great shape, and has some nice comfortable couches by the bar for people to sit at. If anyone ever asked me what I thought of the Living Room, I would speak highly of it.

I love this place! Whenever I'm in the LES I try to at least drop by to see who's playing since they have tons of shows everyday. It's almost always acoustic, singer-songwriter stuff, which in my experience has varied from good to incredible. The drinks are reasonably priced - comparable to what you would pay anywhere else in the area - and the beer selection is solid, if unspectacular. But the draw is the music! Don't come expecting dance music or noise rock, though, because it's always acoustic sets. There are two performance spaces, the main one is on the ground floor, and then Googie's lounge is upstairs. Both spaces always have great shows that generally don't charge a cover. You do have to order a minimum of one drink per set, which isn't a big deal. You should go to this place, like tonight.

So much new music comes through here, it's hard to keep up! Look on their website for listings, they have around 4 shows a night so you'll always find something to go see. Would definitely take anyone truly into the music and not the trendy bar scene. I will come back many-a-time.

Great venue on the Lower East Side. Great place to hear up-and-coming bands and a comfortable place to hang out. Most of the shows are free (with a one drink minimum) which makes it very affordable. I love this place, it's a relaxed, fun place to hear great music, and they do almost always have great music. Cheap drinks, nothing to complain about other than the doorman. Probably the most unreasonably rude doorman I've come across in New York. Who yells at the patrons of a bar when they're standing too close to him?! It's a BAR, and it's NEW YORK, and you WORK HERE. Rude, and frankly seems a little off his rocker. I don't know why they don't hire someone who isn't a psychiactric out-patient.

I am the CEO and coordinator of The B. Sharp Indie Showcase, and when it came time to pick a venue there simply was NO question that The Living Room would be hands down our first choice. Here are the top 10 reasons why it is simply the best:
1. Location - central to the very happening Lower East Side Indie Music Scene
2. Great sound (and sound techs)
3. SEATING and waited tables (so civilized!)
4. Separate Bar area...which makes it possible for.....
5. A QUIET and RESPECTFUL listening audience
6. Wonderful Staff from Mark at the door to Jennifer at the helm and everyone in between
7. Comfortably sized room which accommodates about 125
8. Mingling with the musicians (no snotty "backstage area") Keepin' it real with the peeps
9. Believe it or not...better drink prices and sizes than most other clubs in the area
10. A home base for amazing artists like David Poe, Duncan Sheik, Morgan Taylor, Jessie Harris and many, many more!

i've been playing in bands in this city for 10 years and i've played every live venue but nothing comes close to the new living room space. I stopped playing other places because the sound is phenomenal in this room (due to extremely helpful sound guys who understand that there shouldn't be a mic on the kick drum). Doesn't hurt that the PA system is actually a british studio monitors that costs in the range of $20k. Now that is dedication!

it is true that i am heavily biased, but the truth is, when you play in bands, the key is to get your audience and fans to enjoy where they're coming to see you. they love it.

it doesn't hurt that the music booker is the the most unpretentious lady on this planet earth. like i said, i will never play another venue in new york other than this.

I have to say that this was the greatest little place! The staff was always friendly and cool (the sound guy turned me on to some great new artists) and the music was some of the best singer/songwriter music in the city. I'm glad they moved to a bigger space where you can hang out at the front bar if you want to "skip" an act but I'll always miss that tiny room.

I'm glad they moved to a bigger space where you can hang out at the front bar if you want to "skip" an act but I'll always miss that tiny room.

Pros: great music, cool staff

Cons: old place too small

.

This is THE place to check out a very diverse cross-section of up and coming musicians in the city. The venue is small and, when the acts are good, horribly overcrowded. Plan to come early if you want to fit into the club.
