.

Only a few blocks from the gentrified streets of Park Slope Proper lies Eagle Provisions, a European specialty store that has served the refined palates of the Polsih immigrant community in the South Slope long before it began satisfying hipster cravings for Chick Patties and Framboise Lambic.

Athough there is a a small but quality selection of organic products and an extensive selection of live plants and flowers, the two greatst strengths of Eagle are an absolutely emormous selection of beers from around the globe, sold both in packs and by the bottle (and a few even by the mini-keg), and an excellent meat section, with every kind of deli meat and cheese you could think of (sandwiches are a particular deal, usually under $4.00 with a heroic amount of meat and spicy mustard).

The homemade kielbasa is excellent, as are the several differnt kinds of home smoked bacon (sliced to order). Other things that keep me coming back to Eagle Provisions are the fresh perogis, homemade saurekraut, delightful homemade beet horseradish, a wonderful variety of condiments, including many hard to find european mustards, honeys, jams and other European spreads (nutella is just the begining, my friend), fresh breads, a small selection of exotic produce, an enormous variety of european candy and an extensive baking section (brown superfine sugar? rye flour? 4 differnt kinds of salt? you betcha).

Drawbacks are price-homemade meats and other fresh Polish food aside-Eagle ranges from fancy-deli-expensive to Rockefeller-expensive. And the "regular" produce is overprices and very poor quality. But with several produce-rich delis and 3 other more pedestrian supermarkets in the area, it is easy to skip the fruits and head straight to the kielbasa (and then, to the grill)!

PROS: homemade kielbasa, kraut, perogis, beer, candy, European foods
CONS: Expensive, closes early, skip the produce
