I'be been having square slices at L&B for years and their square slices have always been great but their hot food is horrible--no taste and very bland. If you want real good Italian food that's not made by the Arabs at L&B, go to Benny's

The dough is different now but when it was italian owned it was the best slice you ever had. It still is good but before the mid-90's it was to die for.

This place has been around for years. The only reason to go is to indulge a tasty sicilian square. Their sauce is sweet and tasty. I would recommend eating one and sitting outdoors. They have an inside restaurant as well but it's nothing to brag about. The entrees do not have an authentic Italian taste to them. Instead they are rather oily and greasy. I've gone a few times and have wanted to like this place more but I wouldn't eat inside anymore.

Grab a sicilian, fork, knife, and hurry and find a seat. As delicious as their pizza is and as big as their outdoor dining area is... this place is ALWAYS packed. During the spring / summer time, it's nearly impossible to find parking and people are always double parked in the front. If they run out of pizza, you never have to worry about waiting a while for the next pie to come out. The icee spot has many different flavors, makes a delicious dessert.

I am 48yrs Old & eat out atleast 3-4 Times a week. I've hit most places in NYC & am shocked that anyone could give this place 1 star. THEY MUST BE SPUMONI GARDEN COMPETITORS. I could understand if someone rated the food 3 or 4 stars perhaps because they are accustommed to lets say Olive Garden. But please be serious. The quality of the pizza crust, cheeses & sauce here is delicious and very unique. I have eaten at atleast 250 pizza restaurants & this is one on the very best.
If your in the mood for fresh italian dishes you can't go wrong. My Family had the Chef Table Lite here for $25/ person and We received a huge salad with cheese - Very fresh & well decorated in a large rectangular plate. For Appetizers we were give Jumbo Shrimp 50% fried & 50% Boiled with multiple dipping sauces & a plate of Top notch Baked Clams. Next they brought out a wide homemade paste (About 1" Wide) with fresh greens on tap & Vodka sauce - it was deliciuos. For the main course we were given Veal Marsala topped with eggplant pieces in a sauce to die for and a side dish of scrumptious pan fried Broccolli with garlic. After we revied literally a "Kitchen Sink" of Italian cakes, pasteries & spumoni. Also included in $25 price was all our sodas & coffee. This place is simply awesome & the portions are huge, Service was above average(Mostly Foreign Waiters & Bussers with poor english) & there was not much for decor. We went on a weekday so there was very little wait. Weekends you can expect to wait 45min to 2hr for a table. I've eaten here many other times & just about every dish they prepare rates in the top 5%-10% for NYC. I hate to give this place such a good review because now even more people will come and make my wait more diffilcult but if your looking to go for food freshness, quality, portion size, taste & price. THEN RUN TO SPUMONI GARDENS and don't let the phoney COMPETITOR 1 star REVIEWS through you off. By the way I've never written a review but felt compelled when I saw such bullshit.
So Enjoy.

Pros: Mouth Watering Sicillian Pizza & Awesome Plates -Cheap

Cons: Long Waits for the restaurant but lines for pizza are OK

.

Spumoni Gardens has the best Sicilian slice in New York. This is the plain and simple truth.

Some people don't go for Sicilian, and that's fine, but if you order the round pie, don't be surprised when it's mediocre. This is the place to go for pizza the way grandma used to make.

This place feels like real Brooklyn - not Park Slope Brooklyn, but Brooklyn Brooklyn. We went after checking out the Christmas lights in Dyker Heights. Quite an experience!! Beware: portions are HUGE. Food was good - nothing to go crazy for, but good. Salads were surprisingly good. Did I mention huge? If I could give 3.5 stars I would. It was better than satisfactory - but not as good as very good.

I've eaten at L&B's on many occasions. The last time we went there it was for a friend's casual birthday dinner. The food was pretty good but the wait staff are so pushy! They kept pressuring us to get this dinner special - we didn't want it, plain and simple. The waiter/manager/whoever kept coming back to us and telling us to order it. After refusing for like the 5th time, he stopped nagging. However, he brought a sample to our table without being asked. It tasted good but whats with the harassment?

In addition, they lavished attention on tables that ordered their special but kind of threw us dirty looks. WTF? We were a huge group and ordered tons of food!

The food is good, but not good enough to endure the machismo of the wait staff. They are oftentimes pushy and rude whenever I go in there. We eat there on occasion when we're in the mood for some pasta. Its convenient location for us.

This place is also a hang out for Bensonhurst townies, which can be a turn-off for some people from other parts of Brooklyn. Its not really a big deal though.

L&B is a place that is fondly thought of due to it being such a Brooklyn staple. The pizza is hit or miss (although it's been hit more lately). The restaurant is actually pretty good, with a simple Italian menu and a home-cooked type vibe to it. If you don't want the 18th ave feast to be the only place to see people you went to high school with, then this is the place for you.

For 20 or more Years I have heard about how great these square slices were at L and B spumoni gardens. Well i must say i was let down big time. Average crust, not great, Decent sauce, also not great. Not enough cheese on the pie. A diffrent type of pizza is good once in a while, this is defanitly diffrent, but it will not blow you away or have you wanting to run back there the next day for another slice or two. I would say its like making a trip to OUTBACK steakhouse. The steak is not great, but people like goin there right? Well can you compare a steak from Outback with a steak from Peter Lugers?
I DONT THINK SO!.

I would have to say that most people whom speak great about this place have had to been raised on this pizza, or have shared alot of special family moments at this place, also maybe people feel comfortable and get a good vibe when at L and B. However It is just not a place you can seriously rate so high up with Difarras. lombardis, Grimaldis, Lucali, Johns of bleeker, Totonnos. These places i mentioned are some Heavy hitters when it comes to truely great pizza

Make a trip and try it, if you know Great pizza i am sure you will agree.

Don't listen to that man who said it's dough factory. I love the fresh dough, it makes the pizza right and perfect. Great fresh pies and excellent used ingredients. In the resturaunt there are delicious muscles and pasta dinners. The square slices are great, especially the middle. Best pizza in Brooklyn I sware to God. A nice seating area. Service is pretty quick and the beer is awesome. Theres a tent to sit under incase it's cold or raining. Lots of police officers eat here. It's like the home to residents of Bensonhurst who are in the mood for pizza. It borders gravesend. Transportation is available from anywhere in the City.

This was my first and last visit to L&B Spumoni Gardens pizzeria or as I would call it DOUGH FACTORY. They make one kind of pizza with pizza sauce that is cooked for 3 hours, very acidy. It ripped the walls of my intestines and it gave me blisters in my tongue for a few days. I do not know what the americans like to eat but it is not certainly pizza to me. This kind of pizza is not made in Sicily. There is no variety and the people behind the counter don't even speak english. I DO NOT RECOMMEND IT, IT IS CROP.. I lived in Sicily and I can assure you this is not sicilian pizza, in Sicily we make Sfincione!!!!!!!.

This pizza is without a doubt the best pizza i have ever had. People would say no this is the best pizza in New York, i tried it. Did not even come close. I guarantee if you try this, you will think it's amazing also. The softness of the dough, the perfect amount of cheese. A great cheese/sauce/bread ratio and surprisingly good service for an ordering window.

I was travelling around Bklyn when we passed L&B Spumoni Gardens. The name rung a bell, so I had to try it. Regular slices were just average but the Sicilian Slice was unbelievable!!!!! I really enjoyed it and the unorthodox dough, cheese, sauce layering... Different and delightful! Highly recommend!!!

Poor customer service. RUDE/SARCASTIC seating staff. Called to try to make a reservation for an 8year old birthday party dinner for 10 people and was told no reservations accepted. 'Just show up at any time and we will accomodate' I was told from a worker who answered the phone. My guests showed up at 7 and we were told to sit outside because they had a party scheduled for inside. Why were reservations taken for the party inside? Lady seating everyone (believe she is related to owners) was SOOOOOOOOOOOO rude and would not make any other arrangements to seat my party inside. There were 3 children there with us and she insisted on wanting to seat us outside in the cold. Disappointed the birthday girl immensly with her NASTY attitude. SHAME ON HER! TOOK MY BUSINESS ELSEWHERE AND WE HAD A LOVELY EVENING. WILL NOT, EVER even consider eating there. NOT EVEN 1 STAR FROM ME IF I HAD THE CHOICE.

I went to the L and B Moroccan market last week. I felt so dirty my kids and we all took showers when we got home. It is no way the same place I ate at my whole life, it started going down in the mid 1990's and now it will never be the place it once was. When you go for Italian you want it feel like it's Italian not Bangladesh. The food is OK but not what it once was. The original owners are rolling over in their graves. God rest their souls.

What a great place to hang out with friends. We had a wonderful waitor named Matt, was very nice and quite charming. I am new to the city, and thought this was a place which sho-cased great italian food. The pizza was good, so were the breadsticks.

Food was good....but very SLOW service. The entire dining room was empty last Saturyday afternoon at 2pm and YET we were kept waiting over a half an hour. It was like they were "doing us a favor seating us." Good food....lousy service....they are arrogant!!!!

I just tried L&B for the first time, (mid afternoon on May 13, 2008). I had two square (Sicilain) slices, and a rainbow spumoni.
The pizza was not bad. The sauce was tasty, (on the sweet side), the mozzarella was there in the right amount, (not too minimal, not enough to choke a horse), and a nice dusting of parmigiano atop the sauce. I'd say the weak link was the crust, which was pleasingly light, yet slightly gummy. A good enough Sicilian slice, but not one worth traveling for. If this was my neighborhood pizza joint, I'd probably be a regular, but my local pizza is La Villa on Fifth Ave in Park Slope, and I find the Sicilian pies at La Villa to be far superior to what L & B offers.
Re: the spumoni: this was a bit more disappointing, since other reviewers have given raves to L & B's legendary spumoni. I tried the rainbow spumoni, which is a mix of vanilla, chocolate, and (neon green) pistachio. Not quite ice cream, but somewhat richer than Italian ice. Again, not terrible, but nothing to write home about. You'd do better with the outstanding Italian ices found at many of the outer boroughs' better Italian bakeries, like La Guli on Ditmars Blvd in Astoria, Court Pastry on Court Street in Cobble Hill, or Rispoli Pastry on New Utrecht Ave at 72nd Street in Brooklyn, (their Cremolata ice is something special).
To sum up: good, but not great. Give it a shot if you're in the neighborhood, but L&B comes nowhere near my top ten.

My husband and I live not too far, and we went to check this place out because of the amazing review in Zagats. However, we found that while not horrific, the sicilian squares are hardly "the best," as many reviewers (including Zagats) indicate. First, there is hardly any cheese on the slices, and they are not served hot. They weren't horrible, but certainly not anywhere close to being the best. However, the spumoni is really quite excellent. The pistachio and chocolate flavors are just amazing - the flavor combinations are perfect. So, I say, go have pizza somewhere else, and go to L&B for the spumoni.

I'm 53 years old and I've been going to spumoni gdns for 40 years. It really irks me when I see reviews from idiots like this bobbyt guy. The review before this one here. How cavelier can some of these idiot reviewers get? He obviously is either a competitor or just an idiot who has spent too much time in front of his computer. It's not enough that he wasn't happy with l&b's pizza, he would also like everyone else to not like their pizza as well, so he goes on the internet nd spews his stupidity all over the place. L& B is an institution. Their square pizza is one of the best you will ever eat and their Spumoni is one of the tastiest in the city. Do youselves a favor and don't pay any attention to stupid reviews. Go and find out for yourselves.

L&B Spumoni Gardens is nothing but an Average pizza place At best, Highly Overated, Sauce taste like Ragu, the Chese is almost invisible, and crust is like toasted wonder bread lol. Very Cheap ingredients
This is a Good place to go on a date for Atmosphere. It is a good Tourist area. As far as for a Slice of Pizza. It is a Total Joke. I can name about 5 places for a great slice of pie in brooklyn, and i can also name 50 places that are better than L&B. thats how average this place really is. Not worth a trip. Its All Hype!. The Spumoni is decent, but do not waste your time to drive to this place for that.

if you want a great slice of pizza do not waste your time at this place

I took my Italian and very picky mother-in-law and mom here to eat. We ordered Pizza ,calamari, backed clams, and a hot antipasta for an appitizer. It was all very good. For our entrees we had varies pastas and shared. My mother in law wanted to take home left overs! this is saying a lot. The place was crowded but we didn't wait long and had a great meal.

This place was noted for their pizza and their spumoni at one time... Now the pizza isnt at all the same. They are using substandard ingredients in all their food and the ice cream is full of artificial chemicals and artificial colorings, The spumoni is the worst Ive ever had
The food is loaded with salt and the veal was rubbery and hard like a rock. We also noticed a huge insect in one of our entrees. It was disgusting This place is finished. Unless you dont care what goes into your body, I would stay away from this place. Its now just a memory
