Reminds me of a place in Queens when I was growing up. Probably the best bagels in the area, and he's got some other products in there worth trying like boreks (a triangle pastry with different fillings such as spinach & mushroom) and deli sandwiches.
4My wife and I, along with our two year old boy recently moved to Rochester form Los Angeles and were lucky enough to find BrownStein's bakery. The owner, Irwin, is an excellent baker and always on the premises. Special orders present no problem and during the holidays, the place is packed with people picking up huge bags of baked goods. Finding a kosher bakery is easy in Rochester because there are only two of them. We chose BrownSteins because they do not use soybean oil or soy flour to which my wife is allergic in their bagels or challah.
The breads are baked fresh every morning and they close in the early afternoon, but are open at 7:00 am or so most days. Their egg challah is very rich and delicious and their round cinnamon whole wheat is awesome. Parking is sometimes an issue, but it is more than worth the wait. The bagels are normal size and not the size of your head. The service is freindly and you will never leave hungry.
