After everything was over, this was a wonderful experience! Anthony, Judy, Tyrone and Selena are tops! Unfortunately it took a few turns to get there.\r

I heartily agree with the May 15th review. I had a 4:30 appointment for a manicure and pedicure today. When I arrived I was told I would have to wait because they were short one person today. As I waited I watch them take walk ins first.

This is one of the most ill managed spas I have ever been to. It is unorganized and is not much more than a glorified nail parlor. I had an appointment booked and had to wait 30 minutes for my pedicure!! They seem to take any one who walks

The facial I recieved was the best I have ever experienced. I, honestly, felt like a new woman, looking at myself afterward. The esthetician was gentle and comforting. And what a job she did!

The manager was so sweet and courteous, it was like being around family. She even slipped me in for a mani/pedi after I commented on how great of a job they looked like they were doing on other clients. Acqua is definitely going to be my new oasis in Manhattan.

Acqua Beauty Bar needs to be checked out!

I went to Acqua Beauty Bar for a 90 minute hot stone massage...and I think I've found my regular place now! I've been getting massages all over the city for the past 6 years, and never really loved a place until now...everything from the level of service (the massage was AMAZING!), to the extremely relaxing environment (the music, the massage rooms, the dressing rooms) definitely makes me want to come back...very soon!

i attend spa's on a regular basis and there is just something about this particular place that makes my experience here unlike any other. If you are looking for a night out on the town or just dinner with some friends this is the perfect place to prepare for your night. The atmosphere and staff are unbelievably helpful and friendly. The offered services cover all the imaginables and so much more. Not only do they offer all your typical spa services but the level to which the services are performed is truely unique. I have been going here for years and i can honestly say i still look forward to coming every single time.

I, actually, just went today for the first time following a friend's recommendation. It was worth it. I received a facial, manicure and a pedicure. I was very happy with the results of all three services.

First, I want to comment on the management. The woman at the front desk is so cordial and hospitable. She made me feel right at home. I didn't have to wait after my appointment was confirmed; I was directed right to the facial room. The tech that did my facial was gentle and skillful. I came out feeling ten years younger, like my face was that much more vibrant and youthful. I've been getting complements all day.

After my facial, I came out for a manicure/pedicure. The technician who did my fingers and toes was professional and sweet. I was so caught up in her personality that I didn't even realize she had finished. When I surveyed her work, I was ecstatic. Well, as ecstatic as you can be when you receive a perfect mani/pedi.

I will be back, soon! Acqua Beauty Bar is going to be my exclusive spa from now on and I can't wait to try out their massage therapy!

I had the pleasure of visiting this spa initially for a massage - which was amazing. It was so relaxing that I fell asleep! And I felt limber and relaxed for the next two weeks!

The next time I went back, I got another massage (great, again) plus a manicure and pedicure. It was one of the best I've ever had.

The atmosphere is tranquil and the staff is super helpful. Check this spa out before you gamble on any other one in NYC!

I went for the Sand Digger package, which includes a one hour massage, a mani and a pedi. Let's start off with the positive: the massage was nice and relaxing. It was a bit painful because apparently I have a lot of knots in my back back, but it was a good pain, I suppose. The only real complaint I have is that I saw a HUGE bruise on my back once I got home. I expected to be a bit sore, but bruised? I'm not sure that's normal.

Ok, onto the mani/pedi. I do have to say that my experience may have been different had I had a different person for my mani/pedi. The girl I had (who never even bothered to give me her name) was impersonal and did a mediocre job at best. There are air bubbles and the French tips aren't even. The mani was supposed to last 30 minutes; it lasted maybe 15. Similarly, the pedi was supposed to last 45 minutes, but it was about 20. The foot/leg massage was weak (literally) and short. My hands and feet do not even feel any softer, which they should after the treatment. Plus, I didn't realize that a $5 charge existed for French tips. I feel as though they should've told me when I asked for it, but won't deduct any points for that since perhaps they assumed I knew. I'm giving them the benefit of the doubt, but it's not like I can take half a star away anyway.

To sum it all up, I would NOT go back. This place is not cheap and you can get better service elsewhere.

After reading some of the mixed reviews some good and some bad I still decided to try out the place.

It is close to my office and conveniently located on my walk home so I walked in one day. Although they looked busy they were able to take me for a massage and a much needed pedicure after. The therapist Alex was just incredible. He used deep pressure as I requested but it I wasn't in pain during the massage. I felt my muscle relaxing and his gentle demeanor put me right at ease, he was tentative asking me how I felt, making sure I breathed properly and that I was comfortably draped. It was very professional and I can't remember that last time I enjoyed a massage as I did this. Afterwards I had a Buff Pedicure that the technician talked me into upgrading that was well worth it. They use a lot of disposable items and wear gloves so the attention to the sanitation was appreciated and the dry buffing and warm paraffin socks did wonders for my feet. This is not your average neighborhood salon. The technicians are knowledgeable and skilled.

I went here with a gift certificate from a friend. I asked for the purifying facial. Unfortunately, although the facial was a great experience, I was shocked to find out that I had been given-- and then paid for-- a much more expensive facial. (my efforts to speak to someone about this was met with silence.) This was a very disappointing experience and will cause me not to recommend the spa to my friends. be aware when you go in for services that you are receiving what you asked for.

Pros: pretty lobby area; serene setting

Cons: Ceilings need work-- and is especially obvious when you are lyng face up in the treatment rooms.

I took my husband for a couple's massage for his birthday. We were their last appointment for the day. They were 15 minutes late in taking us in. We had our own private room with hot stone massages and I really enjoyed my massage. My masseuse was excellent and I felt very relaxed. The atmosphere was also very calming. Afterwards I felt a bit rushed out because it was the end of their day. I would say this is a good place to go for an enjoyable massage, not for couples because they don't really do anything to make it a special experience for a couple.

I just moved into the area and happened to pass by Acqua Beauty Bar and walked in for a last minute facial and a manicure. They were able to fit me in. I received a SuperSonic Skin Polisher ?they used some type of a metal implement that exfoliated my skin. It was different than any other facial I had and my skin was amazingly smooth and bright (ask for Kelly)! And whatever they use for manicures works because after five days my polish still hasn?t chipped which is a rarity for me.

This place used to be very good and relaxing, but last summer (summer of 2006) it's staff changed completely (perhaps the management did as well) and the spa experience became really disappointing. Some of the massage therapists are actually quite good, but it's inconsistent, the ambiance is gone, massage rooms are cold and loud, some members of the staff don't speak English very well, appointments are booked incorrectly and many treatments became mediocre at best. It now has a feel of a cheap Chinatown manicure parlor. I'm sorry to see my favorite place change for the worse.

I received a gift card for a massage and i have to say it was the best massage i had. I had a shiatsu massage with Masa and he was personable, very strong which is how i like my massage but not painful. One hour is definitely not enough. The rooms are not small like in some other places and once you go to the back where the treatment rooms are it is peaceful.

Had a mani there recently... nothing special. The place is cramped in the mani/pedi area... a pedicurist had to totally stop working on her client to move out of the way so I could access the manicure tables. I wouldn't go back there... for the price there are tons of better places.

This past weekend my friend and I decided we would treat ourselves to massages and salt scrubs at Aqua. When we arrived we also decided to get manicures. The staff was accomodating and were able to start with manicures, which was great, however, the manicurist cut my cuticle in 2 spots. The spa itself, had little to no ambiance and we were rushed from one service to the next. Whenever anyone, anywhere in the spa turned the water on, the pipes made a horrific groaning sound that you could hear in every room and definitely destroyed the relaxing mood. The massage itself was very good, however the salt scrub was incredibly lacking. It was supposed to last 40 minutes and lasted only about 20. It felt like being in a car wash. It was a quick scrub barely even exfoliating my skin and then the vishi shower. I had never experienced a vishi show before, and for anyone who may not know, it is basically a pipe with many shower heads that is extended over the massage table, so that they can shower you off while you lay on the table. It was not bad, just different. But, after the vishi shower I was asked to stand up and the spa employee showered me off the rest of the way. Which was a very uncomfortable situation as I basically stood there unclothed while someone hoses me down. I was then asked if I would like moisturizer. I said yes, so the employee simply left moisturizer next to my robe for me to apply. At any other spa I have been to for a salt scrub that has always been part of the service, so I was a little put off by this. All in all, it was very dissappointing, especially when you are paying premium prices for the service.

I had received a gift card here so I thought I'd try it out. The menu had a long list of treatments to choose from including how long each treatment would be. Since the prices seemed high, I was naive enough to expect a luxurious experience and decided to go with their signature pedicure, which is listed at $40 for 40 min. Well, 20 minutes later, I was "done" with a sloppy pedicure and being rushed out of my chair.

Even my local, "no frills" nail salon would have done a better job, for half the price WITH a manicure and would have taken the time to make sure I enjoyed the treatment. I would have thought Acqua would have had more to offer than slapping on some polish with a hurried massage. When did getting a pedicure become stressful??

While I can't comment on facials or other treatments, if they can't even get a basic pedicure right, let alone their ?signature? then I'm not taking any chances with my money. And I certainly won't be embarrassing myself by getting someone else a gift card!!

Let's start from the top: extraordinarily rude service from a male receptionist who barked orders at me and also refused to look me in the eye while yelling at me to go pick out my nail polish RIGHT NOW (I made the grave error of asking to the lady's room before my appointment began). My apointment (should have been two hours max) took four full hours b.c. of scheulding issues and lack of space. I was freezing cold during my massage. My manicure/pedicure treatment was interrupted due to overbooking and a lack of space. I was forced to wait for over thirty minutes for a pedicure polish (yup, just the polish...and yeah, just the toes). There were no seats at the drying counter; people were standing around a hallway with fresh manicures and pedicures (expensive, too!) waiting for a seat. This spa was about as relaxing as a refugee camp.

I've been going there for about six months to see Lee for my waxing needs and I find that she's great. Compared to all the other places I have been going for brazilians, this place is much more reasonably priced - they offer a "partial brazilian" which is just a little less off than a full brazilian for just over $30. It's always been very clean and Lee is super fast - I am out of the place in under five minutes (this may be the rushing part other people talk about, but with waxing, I don't exactly want it to last any longer!). But always make an appointment, any time I've tried to walk in they can never squeeze me in.

Don't waste your money there! Rude staff ,slow and lie about their knowledge about using certain products and services. After being there for over 3 hours to have gel nails done,I got up and walked out as my time is valuable and the girl was still not finished and it was the worse job I had ever had in my life,,I could have done better myself :( When I said something they said they would get a girl from their other location to fix the mess........I was livid after all those hours and then the girl expected a tip??? You tip for good service not for bs,save your money don't go there

I have been to TONS of spas in every price range - I've had some amazing spa days and some that were a horrific waste of lots of money. Acqua is a great spa!!!! NOT ONE SINGLE PERSON was rude to me! They did NOT push product on me. This place is what it is - a small day spa with pretty great services. It was not too noisy when I went (during the workday) and the treatment rooms were very relaxing. I spent 4 hours there and DEFINITELY found solitude and relaxation. If you want super fancy oasis then go to a high end spa - but if you want a really really great day of pampering and self care at a day spa - this place is DEFINITELY worth it!!!!!

I've been here twice . . the facials are pretty good, except for the fact that the facialists are pushing products nonstop, like used car salesman. It's hard to lay back and enjoy the treatment when someone is whispering product names in your ear the whole time. And they really exagerate sking problems to scare you into buying products. The massages and pedicures are very average, and the receptionist is straight up rude. I don't think I'll be going back anytime soon.

The massages and pedicures are very average, and the receptionist is straight up rude. I don't think I'll be going back anytime soon.

.

I went to this spa for a pedicure. The pedicure area seemed worn, and the spa itself seemed dirty and loud. The pedicure was painful, my toenails were cut way too short, causing breakage and injury. When I asked if they took Discover,(many places don't), the receptionist said she didn't know and would go check. After getting sidetracked and talking to a colleague, she returned and took the Discover out of my hands. She then informed me rudely that my card had been declined. I gave her my Master Card. She was rude and condescending during the transaction. Later I called Discover, and sure enough they do not take Discover. When I called back to inform them of this, the girl didn't even have the courtesy to apologize for the fact that I had been so rudely treated. Don't go.

I just had the Complementary Paraffin Mani today and I loved it. Very relaxing and a great treatment to get away from the cold. Okay I must say the girl at the front during the week is friendlier and more welcoming then the girls on the weekend but they weren't that bad these rating are very off. The place is great and the staff as-well. Weekdays recommended! But whatever day of the week you can always have a great mani/pedi.

The management is great they always work with me when booking an appointment witch is not easy with my schedule, and when you come in there attention is always on you no matter how busy they are, they make me feel at home. Between the staff and the services I make it a point to get into the spa at least once every other week & if I could find the time to go more I would. Its cozy and a perfect fix from the everyday city life.

My girlfriend and I went for a day of papering and had the best time in a spa ever. when I booked us in the girl on the phone was very helpful in helping me chose the treatments for the day. my girlfriend and I started off in the same room for the "couples " hot stone massage we both thought the massages were amazing and it was really nice to be in the same room. she then went on for a facial and I had a body scrub, both were enjoyable. my girlfriends skin looked so fresh and clean . we then sat side by side while we got our manicures and the best pedicure ever the happy hour. We were both very happy after our hours at Acqua Beauty Bar!

I splurged and got the happy hour pedicure. This is a whole hour of foot massage, scrubs, and pampering. The spa is very relaxing and the person who took care of my feet was such a sweetheart. Too bad I can't remember her name - she is the really tall one. Overall a terrific experience. I sat back and enjoyed. The only down side was that their chairs are a little uncomfortable because you can't move the back of the chair up too much. This was the best pedicure I've ever had, and I get them a lot.

So I booked my 4 service appointment 1 1/2 months in advance. When I didn't receive a confirmation call, I called the day of my service just to be told I didn't have an appointment. They decided to fit me in an hour later. So when I showed up and told them my name they said I did have an appointment and that I had said a different name on the phone. Regardless my day of bliss was off to a stressful start. The facial was fine except for the pushing of products I didn't even know if I wanted or liked while the facial was ongoing. I apparently "had so many problems" with my skin which prompted suggestions for every add-on service they had. Also the facialist sneezed during the procedure and never left to wash her hands! Gross!!!!

A friend and I went in for a "journey" and neither of us were particularly impressed with anything at this spa "haven" that i had previously heard so much about. Wile a few of the aestheticians were sweet, some of them were downright rude and none of them told us their names, (which made figuring out the tip envelopes a little awkward.

On another separate occasion, we held a friend's bachlorette "spa day" - think again ladies!! The customer service at this venue has a bit to be desired. They are not terribly accomodating and considering the number of options of spas in the city and the prices that they were charging...they could at the very least be a bit more pleasant

In the field of NYC spas, I dont think we have to settle for mediocrity and indifference on our pampering days!

First of all, the facialist tried to get me to buy all of these products and extra treatments that I obviously didn't need (microdermabrasion for 22-year-old skin!!). I was then put in a dingy robe and old pair of pool sandals and was left waiting in the facial room for someone to collect me! I went outside looking for help and my massage therapist found me somehow. The massage itself was ok, but she worked on my bad shoulder mostly and took a couple extra minutes on the rest of my body. I was then escorted to the very loud and chaotic manicure area. It totally ruined the relaxation I had acheived from my previous treatments. I recieved my worst manicure EVER to the stylings of britney spears. Not something I would expect from a "spa". There are MUCH nicer places in the city for the same price!

I went to Acqua with ok-looking skin, looking to get a nice relaxing facial with organic products that would give me a little extra summer 'glow'. The facialist was doing a hard sell on the Sonya Daka facial with chemical peel, so I decided to try it.

$200 and 40 minutes later, my skin looked worse, like I had a mild breakout everywhere. To make matters works, the products she used were greasy and irritated my skin, not to mention the painful 'extraction' part of the service which made me break out even more several days later and is bound to cause spots.

They were also pushing the products heavily which made the whole experience totally unsatisfactory.

I decided to step into Acqua Beauty Bar Inc to get a manicure and a pedicure. The setup is very beautiful and the staff is friendly, but I would say that my experience here with the manicure was just so-so. For the price they charged and for what I received, I would have chosen a different salon. I havent tried any of their spa treatments...yet, but I might.

The corner store at the street will do a MUCH better job. Their pedicure does not last 40 mins - and is VERY basic - for $40. For their $22 manicure, you get to dip you hands in water, and get your paint changed. Terrible.

Had a great mani/pedi at Acqua. Nail treatments were relaxing and the spa atmosphere is very nice and extremely clean. They also have a great selection of magazines to read and interesting beauty/spa products for sale. Enjoyed the gratis parafin mani treatment for winter.

I have visited several and each with varying results.
The last time I went, I had to wait for 35 minutes at 8:00 at night because they were backed up. But I had made the appointment less that 30 minutes before and they we well aware of this and did not tell me when I called.

Then the actual manicure/pedicure was average at best. The total was $64, which is about what you will spend if you go a tru hig-end high place like the Kenneth Salon, which is worth the $$.
Do not bother with this place - they do not care about you!

since i had a gift certificate, i decided to try the swedish massage despite the negative citysearch comments. when i called, the receptionist was very pleasant. my massage therapist was good; however, the environment wasn't the best for a massage. The room was indeed a bit cold (the therapist later explained it was cold because it was not one of the massage rooms but instead a water therapy room). Furthermore, you could sometimes hear some of the voices and phones from the reception and nail areas. it was far from the best massage i've received, but compared to my best experiences, this massage was also proportionately less expensive (for those who care about price/value). i recommend you request a regular massage room if you book here.

I went to Acqua Beauty Bar for a couples massage. It was a terrible massage in a cold room. After the massage, my husband and I wanted a few minutes alone but they kept interrupting us to get us out of the room. I will never go back and never recommend this spa to anyone. With all these bad reviews, how does it get a 9.0 rating?

i received a gift certificate & was almost scared to use it based on these reviews! the front desk treated me well, despite my middle class pigtails & tattoos. i then had the botanical facial with their esthetician, Dorota. my skin is absolutely clean, soft & glowing. no crazed product pitch, just one Sonya Dakar scrub which i agreed to needing & bought. the facial room was really vibey & relaxing. i also had my over grown au natural browes waxed by a woman named June. we both declared, they are perfect!!
i'd go back, for sure. i can't see why you all had such a bad experience. for the record, i went on a monday afternoon. perhaps weekends are crazy??

just calm down spa blows this place off the radar scale!! My friend bought me a gift certificate for a pedicure and manicure which was ordinary, sloppy and not too much fun! I expected a beautiful setting and it just felt like any old nail salon. The staff was aloof and unfriendly and not very knowledgeable about any of the services. Sorry kids, just calm down will remain my second home!

The people who complaind about the rude staff are correct. The 2 girls at the front were unfriendly and unaccommodating the minute you walk in the door. While I was waiting 1/2 hour for a pedicure, they were reading a magazine and basically forgot about me. They must be related to the owner - that's the only reason I can think why she keeps them around...I wouldn't want them working in my spa. There are plenty of other good places in NYC who are happy to have you!!

I usually get my legs waxed there. Ask for Bimala - she's very good and fast. Plus - she's nice.

The woman at the desk is rude and nasty. Someone should teach her about customer service. When she is giving you your bill - make sure she hasn't over charged you. She tried to 2x with me, only b/c she wasn't listening. She needs to 1) not be so rude - b/c we are paying her salary and 2) learn to listen to what a customer is saying.

I found this place on internet as the best couple's massage. Far from it. They offer a special on their website for a couple's stone massage. I called and booked this and mentioned that I found the special on their website. The massage was okay a bit to hard for my liking, especially because it was suppose to be romantic. Throughout the massage I awaited the stones and yet no stones appeared. Apparently, they forgot to write it down in the appointment book. Needless to say I was upset becasue that was the only reason I went there. The customer service was sub par and the environment isn't relaxing since the lobby and entrance is right off of the street. Don't waste your money.

How can a place with more than half the critiques being negative still earn a rating this high? I've gone quite a few times...The staff is rude, I've met the owner more than once and she's less than useful, the service is inconsistent, and for the price, improve your home lighting and buy yourself flowers and a bottle of nail polish. Give your money to people that spread the joy that is a great spa experience--not these queens.

The waxing staff need tips on giving a good thorough wax. 1. check the waxed area in a lighted, magnifying mirror. 2. Go over the area more than once. 3. Ice cubes really do help afterwards, not lotion. 4. Have good lighting so the customer can see the area themselves. Here's my story: I walked in off the street and they were accomodating about taking me for a wax. I liked the technique of the person but I got home and there were still stray hairs! (see all above tips.) Nice consistency to the wax and she did small strips at a time. The atmosphere is fairly nice and upbeat. Then I got home & realized I was overcharged and after some stress, I got a positive response from the owner offering to correct this and she was very accomodating. So that was good!

I enjoyed the Botanical Purifying Facial and a Brown Sugar Glo scrub at Acqua Beauty Bar. The facial was one of the best I've ever had - my skin was soft and glowing, my enlarged pores were cleaned of gunk, and even the flaming red pimple on my chin was noticeably smaller after the facial. The body scrub was good but a bit overpriced for what I got.

My aesthetician Dorota was gentle but thorough with both the facial and scrub, and sales pressure was minimal (I was offered one exfoliating product but that was it).

The only downside was having to wait for a changing room after my treatment. I was in spa gear (robe, slippers and headband) in full view of fully-dressed clients who were there for nail treatments or makeup. A bit more privacy would be great.
