hopefully it's improved in the past few years

i attended the NGCS several years ago for the full-time chef's training program, and was very disappointed. there were a few standouts in the faculty, but unfortunately, the facilities were poor and crowded, the administration was not open to student feedback, and the tuition was overpriced for what we got. however, since i attended, they expanded and remodeled, so hopefully things have improved.
I would highly recommend the public classes; as far as the chef's training program goes, make sure you talk to several recent grads before signing up!

Natural Gourmet Institute for Health and Culinary Arts
by cjshoffner
I went to the summer intensive cooking school class which just ended today, July 16-28th. I can not write with enough enthusiasm and superlatives to describe my experience. It was fabulous. I am a teacher myself and have taught cooking classes. I decided to join with a friend and venture to the Big Apple from Oklahoma to gather fresh perspectives on cooking. I was not disappointed! I am ready to share and learn even more. The teachers were personable, enthusiastic, and alot of fun to be with. We bonded with class mates as well. Our teachers were eager to answer questions and their passion for their subject matter was catchy. We not only learned valuable information, but we were able to eat balanced and nutritious meals every day of class. Our class was highly diversified. The members were from Japan, Canada, Alaska, Minnesota, Oklahoma, New Jersey, and yes even from New York City.
Pros: It was highly organizedclass size was just rightthe lectures packed in alot of information yet we were able to participate as well. The activities varied so that you were never put to sleep. The experience was vibrant and alive as was the food.
Cons: New York City is not a cheap place to visit for two weeks. I was glad that the school recommended the Chelsea Inn on 17th street between 5th and 6th Avenue. I was happy to be able to share the cost

A Fabulous resource for cooking/learning
by kflam
This school is a terrific resource for both learning about healthy eating and to learn to cook a variety of types of food.
The instructors are terrific and many are the same found at other NY CUlinary Schools.
An excellent value, too!
