With a lack of ice cream parlors in the neighborhood, you would think this an incentive for the owners to really do something special. Drum up some business, have some specials, show that they're there. Not the case at all. Scoops is just...there. A small shop with absolutely no aspirations for greatness. Sometimes you don't even know it's open it's so dark from the outside. Can you say Bright Light Bulbs?? Their ice cream selection is mediocre at best. Breyers, some Taste of Tropics but nothing special you can't get a block away at the local Associated supermarket....for a much more reasonable price. In addition the shop also sells bric a brac (African & Caribbean inspired clothing & jewelry). Always wondered how they stayed in business for so long, since it's rare to see many people IN the shop, much less leaving with ice cream..

PROS: It's there? There is no other ice cream parlor in the neighborhood
CONS: Dark, Small, Limited selection of ice cream & Overpriced

This place looks like an ice cream shop from the outside but is actually much more. Tony, the owner is extremely friendly and ready to talk about good health. He made me an excellent vegetable juice, and allowed sampling of the tamarind juice and ginger beer. The food I had was also real good - a vegetable patty and some other good vegetarian options - including some real tasty barbecue fake meat. Next time I'll try the ice cream.
