The cuisine is poorly executed. Sushi was okay but the entrees were all boring, flavorless and uninspiring thought they read well on the menu. Sushi was fine, but the server had no idea what soy paper was or Nori or the difference. Completely untrained on the menu and its ingredients which isn't his falut and is the sign of an operation that just doesn't care.

Citrus is a "go to" place for my friends and I when we can't decide where to go for dinner or brunch and/or weren't up for crowded dining areas and long lines. We like that there's ample space and several great choices on the menu. I almost always order the Citrus Chopped Salad.

This past Sunday a few friends and I went for brunch and I'm sad to say I was disappointed. The Citrus Chopped Salad was lacking in the wonderful toppings -pumpkin seeds, jicama, avocado, sweet potatos and manchego cheese - that make it so tasty and flavorful. There was barely any manchego on our salads and everything else was sparse. The moment we brought this to our waiter's attention he seemed to catch on immediately and it made me wonder if due to the economy, they have knowingly cut back on ingredients.....In any event, as always, the service was fantastic and our waiter brought us up cups of manchego and avocado to add to our plates of lettuce. Ultimately I had a pretty good chopped salad but I still elft feeling a bit disappointed over one of my favorite "standys."

Well it had been almost 2 years since I had last visited Citrus... I never found the service to be any good and the food was always average (even though the menu makes it sound fantastic)... Anyway, today - father's day - I decided to try it once again, as many of my first choices did not have tables available. Well I should have stayed home. Citrus disappointed once again. Not only was the food below average, the service was down right poor... only to be topped off by the fact that the manager on duty - Natalia - dropped my father's father day present - a collection of photos - all over the floor and didn't even have the sensibility to apologize. She left them there and moved on.

Fool me once, shame on you; fool me twice, shame on me.

I went with two friends to what we thought was our local friendly restaurant, which we have been to many times. After waiting for an hour and a half (on a wait that we were told would be 45 minutes) they jammed us into a two person table and promised to "take care of us." Not only did they not take care of us (seriously, the manager, Natalia, did not do a single thing with respect to comping anything and was the single most unprofessional and rude restaurant manager that I have ever come across--actually despite her claim that she was, in fact, the manager, I tend to doubt it, since she looked like she just woke up and went to work in the clothes she slept in), but the wait staff was completely incompetent. Despite the food not being bad (it??s pretty mediocre), and I suggest you don't either....

The food is tasty, but the portions are small and the service is slow. The noise level on a weekend makes the jackhammers on a construction site seem quiet. This is definitely not a place where you would want to have a leisurely dinner, but it is close to the Beacon theatre, and not a bad place to go if you are not spending more than an hour. If you are not going to the Beacon, there are lots more restaurants to go to in NYC rather than this one.

I must have eaten here right when they opened. It was summer 2005 and I had a really good experience, from what I can recall. I had just flown in and a large group of us went on the later side to dinner there. I can't remember what I had, but the food was delicious and the drinks were also working. Sad to hear that things aren't the same now.

Pros: Bustling, busy and hip in 2005

Cons: none that I can recall

Great Asian/Latin fusion! The food is delicious: turkey meatballs are a must and sushi is creative and fresh Drinks are delicious (bloody mary, sangria) but too small for price. Atmosphere is trendy but relaxed. Nice sized outside cafe!

The food here was really fun and interesting: spicey novel sushis, fun salads, and yummy tacos. We order a ton of margaritas in lots of fruit flavors and they were really fresh and fruity, like real fruit and fruit juices that were fresh, not frozen. Service was friendly and attentive. Love this place!

My sister and I came here on Friday for dinner and drinks. It wasn't fairly busy but we were told there had to be an $18 minimum per person food charge to sit outside and if we sat inside we would each have to order an entree. My sister wasn't that hungry but was going to order an appetizer. I was definitely going to rder an entree. But we definitely would have ordered more than $18 per person in drinks! Regardless they wouldnt seat us. My sister decided to complain to the manager and when she did, he told her to leave! He didn't care that he was losing two customers but rathered we leave. This is not an upscale restaurant where I can justify wanting the customers to order entrees. It's a restaurant that has millions of others like it in this city and they have no right demanding customers to buy a certian amount of food. I urge you not to go!

I've been here a couple times, once for brunch, once for afternoon drinks & appetizers. Had a great experience both times! I really like the menu selections, as well as the interesting & fresh Latin twists in the dishes/drinks. The food is very good, not mind blowingly so, but tasty nonetheless. Awesome specialty drink selections! Be warned that drinks on the rocks tend to have A LOT of ice so ask for less/no ice...I finished my margarita in about 3 sips & opted to get a different drink w/ less ice so it'd last longer (a tall blueberry vodka concoction that my friend order, it was fabulous!). What I love the most is the menu offerings combined w/ the outdoor seating - one can sit outside here w/ friends, eating, drinking, chatting, relaxing, & really having a nice time. I know there are lots restaurants w/ al fresco dining but I've found myself here more than once after wandering about the UWS & have been very very pleased. I'm a bit disturbed by the review before mine & am sorry that happened to someone, but overall I have had nothing but good experiences here. Service is fine, prices a bit much but not unheard of for the area. I would dine/drink here again!

My friends and I stumbled upon what we thought was a nice place around 11pm on friday night. The manager was at the front door and said that the kitchen was still open. There were at least 10 tables available but they would not seat us. The manager said that we had to all be ordering an entree to sit down. We explained that 2 of us were ordering entree's, and 1 was ordering appetizers but we are all having drinks. This manager continued to refuse to seat us. We should have left at this point, but it was pouring out so we sat at the bar. We asked if there was table service there and the nasty hostess laughed, threw menus at us and walked away. We finally left.
We are still disturbed about how we were treated. The manager is a homophobe and should be fired!

Citrus - it was my favorite for so long, Sunday brunch - couldn't live without it... not any more. The place has gone down hill. Trying to make a reservation for 6 people the other day the host, Evelyn, tells me sorry... no can do. Are you full I ask? No she says, with an attitude. Brunch is served, (didn?t have to wait so why couldn?t she mark us down?), I am out of water so I ask the waitress, can I please have some more? Sorry she says, you will have to ask the buss boy! What I am getting at is service and it seems Citrus is so full of itself these days that they don't want to properly serve their best customers anymore... let alone, even remember us. At the end of the day, the food is not that great so why even bother!

I was visiting the city from Nashville, and used citysearch to find somewhere to eat. I chose this place, because they seemed to offer a wide selection of flavors, between the sushi & the latin flavors.

Overall it was a really good dining experience. My friend and I both ordered the Pomegranite-Ancho Chile glazed salmon, and we both substituted the mashed cauliflower for their sweet potatoes. The glaze & the salmon were perfect, and I think those were the best sweet potatoes I've ever had. I recommend it! Oh, and Crumbs is just across the street, so I consider that a plus!

I don?t know about this place. I had my eye for a few yrs now and last wk I finally decided to try it. since my friend was running late, I sipped on their nice pineapple margarita, very good, very strong so I was in a good mood already. I had: the chopped salad (boring), the tuna tartare special (not very good, I feel like I haven?t had very good tuna tartare in a LONG time, ugh!), and the taco trio tasting (good but ive had better at a hole in the wall Mexican place). my friend had the shrimp tempura roll (ok but again, nothing that you couldn?t get at your neighborhood sushi place) and the ?Char Grilled Brandt Natural Cheese Burger? w/ Belgium fries, pepper black cheese & bbq onions ? thankfully she gave me a bite, bc it was delicious and surprisingly better than everything I ordered. all in all, I think this place is better for a few drinks and dinner elsewhere.

I went to Citrus to celebrate my friend's birthday for dinner. However, I ended up leaving this place with horrorible experience. A piece of an alumnium foil came out from my sushi roll that I had ordered. The manager did not even come to the table to apologize. In addition, the waitress charged my sushi roll when I got the bill. I had to send my check back to her and ask not to charge when there was somethine other than what menu describes in my sushi roll. What a service!! I don't care how popular this restaurant is but the service was just simply terrible!!!

The food is a creative fusion of Latin American and Japanese flair, an interesting combination. The spicy tuna roll had banana in it as well, which made for a really unique taste that I at first had to get used to, but then LOVED. Everything was creatively seasoned and the added pizzazz of it really helped dress up a normal boring dish. I'll definitely go back.

We went there on New Year's Eve. It was a set menu at $85 per person and included dancing downstairs. Not a bad deal, we thought. We made a 930 reservation. The service was good, but the meal wasn't. My meal was over cooked and luke warm. It was 45 minutes before the ball dropped and our meal was just being served. And when we went downstairs there was only a hand full of people. I would not recommend this place.

Pros: Location...I live in the UWS

Cons: Pretentious Staff

Like everyone else is saying, the tuna salad (rather, the tuna in the salad) was amazing. It was incredibly soft and melted in your mouth. Order it as really rare, not just 'seared'. The pepper corn cooked crust will be just the right thickness. The salad in the salad was chopped, so it lost a bit of its taste and tasted bitter.

The shrimp quesadilla wasn't all that good. Bland, very few (small) shrimps. The service was pretty good, though we were there early on a Sunday night, not too many other patrons, though it started getting fuller by the time we left around 8. The bar off to the side was full and lively the entire time, though we didn't try the drinks (the tall margaritas did look impressive and popular).

The hand fed (err, farmed) salmon smelled great across the table, as did the other tuna dish.

Don't come to Citrus for a quiet meal. Citrus is a fun place for a crowd of friends or just to people-watch. They started us with complimentary chips and homemade salsa. The salsa is good. Second course was sushi (Dragon Roll) for my date, and I had the pepper crusted tuna salad. The dragon roll was artistically prepared and presented and had a nice combination of texture and flavour. It was right up there with some of the best sushi places in the city and well above most places. My tuna salad was top-notch. The tuna was seared to perfection, the pepper did not overpower the salad which was combination of ingredients done in a sesame dressing was a perfect balance for the tuna. In some places the tuna is a lesser quality than they use for the sushi, but not at Citrus. This was very fresh, deep red, sushi quality tuna. These guys know fish and do not scrimp on the quality or freshness of any of their ingredients.

It was immediately obvious that our server was not interested in the least to wait on our table. It's a shame as we were interested in giving her out business. It seems more often these days the service I receive from Citrus is like that of an Amsterdam (Holland) diner. The visits by the server are few and far between and worse the assistants are left holding the bag and only 20% of the total tip to show. I wish there was more I could say, sushi was small, rolls were unimpressive, and the empty state of my drink left more to be desired.

I organized a dinner for 20 and was extremely satisfied with the results. Ambience was classy, well-decorated, great use of lighting; servers were friendly, competent and accomodating. I went to citris with some friends not knowing what to expect. it turned out to be the coolest, most original restaurant i have ever been to. I got the special rolls on the entree part of the menu (tuna with mango, salmon with banana) although it doesnt sound yummy....i would have it in a second...except for the fact that it is three FULL rolls...18 pcs...which is a little much for me. All of my friends, even Ms. Picky, could find something delicious. I would recommend this place to anyone looking for great food. Also, across the street is a terrific bakery, CRUMBS, which is definately worth trying the cupcakes at.

here's a place I've been a dozen times and its good... the steak is hit or miss (I've had really good cuts and some really bad cuts) but the Miso SeaBass is to die for... Its right there with Nobu and sushi samba.

The Pineapple maragita rocks (but watch out cause you cant tell your drunk till you stand up)

best margaritas and awesome food what more do i need to say... its a great date spot... but also works well for a party of 8 for a birthday dinner.

Citrus is my and my husband's favorite NYC restaurant! The location is great (check out the Upper West Side!) and the food is wonderful. The warm corn salsa and chips they bring is so tasty and will fill you up!! We love to start with some sushi appetizers. My husband always gets the Marinated & Grilled Canadian Natural Skirt Steak, and I get the Wasabi-Edamame Crusted Canadian Salmon. We are stuck on these favorites, as they are delicious every time, but the rest of the menu looks just as fabulous. Whenever we have out-of-town guests, we bring them here. The drink menu is very innovative, and we like the wine selection. On Valentine's Day, they had a very creative menu special for the day. I would recommend calling ahead, but if you have to wait for a table, they have a beautiful modern bar you can wait at. Enjoy!!

I always have a great meal at Citrus. Love the sushi and quesadillas. Margaritas are a nice complement to the meal. The place is stylish, busy and has lots of energy! Great place for dinner with friends.

I have been to Citrus many times. Its always been great food, good service, fun drinks and an enjoyable time. The menu has a great selection, you can always try something new; however, the chicken salad is incredible! The ambiance has so much energy - it can be great for a date, or party out with friends. I have never done wrong at Citrus! Its a experience you will definitely enjoy:)

pretty mediocre, if truth be told. Nothing more annoying than having someone whose first language is not English to balls up your reservation and then not bother apologising for it when challenged. Nice decor though.

Pros: um.....?

Cons: clueless,abrupt staff

Have been here several times and each time was a delight! Always treated well by the staff and seated promptly...WHEN I had a reservation. I wouldn't recommend going without one, this place is really busy. When I didn't have a res, I simply grabbed a place at the bar, sipped on a yummy white sangria and chatted it up with the friendly bartenders until a table was available. Food is great, drinks are better and the service is wonderful. This place is a must!

This review is in regard to News Years only. I haven't eaten here, but I have heard good things. Cost was $130 for open bar and finger food. Food was so-so. Went there with about 8 people and we all felt the same. The place didn't sell out and the crowd was mediocre at best. Many people left before midnight. Wouldn't go back again for New Years.

I've lost track of the number of times I've been to Citrus Grill. As most previous reviewers, save one, agree, the margaritas are amazing. As for the menu, I've never been disappointed, but the Margarita chicken salad is my favorite. Testament to its tastiness is the fact that when my 3 best friends and I have dinner here (which is often) we all order this salad, including the one who tends to eschew anything green. Absolutely one of my favorite restaurants.

Citrus is a great place, great for food, drinks, or both. Their margaritas are great (My fav is the Rasberry, with Chambord!) Its my boyfriend's favorite restaurant, as he says, he spends half his income there! Overall, good price, good choices, and great drinks! The wait staff is very attentive, and the hot salsa is a great starter to any meal.

Editorial from

The Citrus Bar & Grill consistently draws khaki-clad Upper West Siders who line up to sip margaritas at the retro-Western bar or sit down to Southwestern fare in the dining room. The fare is sometimes flat, but other times right on target.…
