Not one person on these postings mentioned the horrific renovation of this once beloved bar. It had the original phone booth, table booths and decor from the 1950's. Film Center owners consulted some idiot interior designer to "update" the place. And what did they come up with you may ask? A look that resembles Bennigan's, TGI Fridays and Olive Garden COMBINED!!!!. Great looking "MALL" restaurant GUYS!!!!! And what puts salt in the wound is that when I was there 2 days ago, on their obligatory flat HD TV screen was a Baseball game. Now why is that odd? Their policy for years was to run old B&W movies all the time giving the ambiance to the name "FILM CENTER" .I asked if they could turn on TCM movie channel. The bartender called the owner to ask if it was OK. He refused to change the channel. And apologized by commenting that he personally is a rabid sports fan but felt the game on TV was absurd being that it is a film center after all. I want to congratulate FILM CENTER CAFE for DESTROYING their once unique, historically charming place. And turning into every other multi- TV sports bar in this soon to be over gentrified city with $10 gin & tonics..

Pros: If you like generic sports bars with overpriced drinks

Cons: They renovated the place for the WORSE

Ordered "a glass of" Chardonnay - on the menu for $6. The bill came and it was $12. The waitress claimed it was because they have three sizes of pours, and my wife didn't specify which size she wanted, so she just gave us the more expensive size. The Manager got involved and admitted the menu is confusing, but blamed US for not being specific. When we asked why it's not protocol to ask what size someone would like, he said it would "embarrass" and make the customer seem "cheap" to order a small glass of wine. Then, even though we spent over $125, he refused to change the bill to reflect what she ordered, and stood by the doubled price.

We work around the corner, and am sorry that Film Center will no longer be a place we feel comfortable patronizing in future. Thanks for years of dining - we're not inclined to return.

Cons: Awful customer service; Double check your bill.

This is my favorite American restaurant anywhere. Service is excellent, they could teach a lot of restaurants in this city a thing or two about service. Menu - very American - very good.

Calamari, burgers, you can blindfold yourself and pick at random and you're not going to be disappointed. Atmosphere is very comfortable and relaxing with out being sloppy.

Cool memorabilia on the walls. Service was okay. Food was good. I went back again because they have late hours and the prices aren't bad. The food was actually better the second time. Worth going and having a meal with friends. Not usually too busy.

This place i the absolute worst. I went there yesterday for a complimentary dinner through the hotel i work for and they wre nothing but rude. Food the was horrible, servers were beyond rude and the manager was very careless with anything we had to say. It took over 20 minutes for my chocolate ice cream to be brought out. Meanwhile i watched my friend eat her whole entire Creme Brulee. The food wa very salty. We were ignored th whol time and felt very unwanted. Now call me crazy. When you are trying to network and promote your business wouldnt you want to "impress" the people who are trying to help you out?
There is way too much to type and not enough space. I would not recommend this place at all to anyone.
They lost our business and definitely the hotel guests. After the manager saying "we dont need your services, kep whoever you want out of here" .... there was much more i could add but i feel this is enough to get my point across.
Never again

I've been to Film Center many times over the years. The reason my friends and I go back is mainly because of the good food, above average sevrice and great location. I'm always happy when I leave there. Consistently good....that's why I'll always return.

We live in Hell's Kitchen, and often go to brunch nearby. Film Center has a tasty brunch for just $13.

BUT the service was the worst I've experienced. We didn't leave a a tip. Why? She didn't do anything. We were seated near the front of the restaurant, and it took over 10 minutes for someone to see if we wanted water. We were looking disgruntled, but no one took note. About 10 minutes later, a young perky blonde comes up and asks us if we want to order food. Um, how about some water? So we ordered water and coffee.

Another 10 minutes and no water. She was chatting with another watress, and not bothering to get us water. We asked one of the busboys to get us water and it arrived right away. Then our sugar packets, were completely wet, and we couldn't use the sugar. And again, none of the waitresses would look in our direction, or even come over when we waved. Again, the busboy immediately gave me new sugar when we asked. The busboys also served our food, and asked if everything was ok. Then, when we drank all our water, no one came around to refill it for quite some time. Again, we asked the busboy to get us more water.

I thought it might be just us, or our watress, but the other two tables near the fron of the restaurant were also being dissed. The watiresses are very pretty. They wear very fashionable clothes. They stand around looking pretty and not lifting a finger.

We left NO tip. WHy should we, when the waitress collects 20% tip of the bill, when the busboys do all the actual work, and get paid nothing, under the table? After we left, I felt that we should have handed a $20 to the busboy, who was far friendlier, and customer-oriented. I am still debating complaining to the manager, but for all I know, the manager might just be the airhead who was seating people.

I foudn the service horrendous, and unethical at the least, for the waitresses to collect tips for doing absolutely nothing more than taking orders.

Pros: Good brunches

Cons: Service? What service?

This restaurant puts on a good show--modern decor, and a stocked bar. Once you sit down,it goes downhill!!!
Our waitress was nice, but lazy and pretty stupid. It took us 5 minutes just to GET OUR DRINKS ORDERED.
The tuna was dry, the pizza was disgusting, and the salsa tasted old.Worst of all--the manager sat at a table right next to us and ATE DINNER,never asking us if we needed more drinks or take our plates away.
NOT ONLY BAD SERVICE---BAD FOOD!!!!!!!!!!

I love the brunch here, maybe the unlimited cocktails for $20 makes the food taste that much better, but I always have a great meal, and it's a fun place to bring out of town guests. The sangria is a standout in the city!

Third time back here since reopening. We have had a wonderful meal each time. The FOURTH TIME however, was not good at all. Everything we had tasted old or just not fresh. The fish seemed to have diminished in quality. The skirt steak was the only thing (of the several things we tried) that was still good. Waitress was nice but knew NOTHING about the menu or the wine. When we asked she did manage to tell us that the Chef left and that this might account for the difference in food. I'm afraid I wont be giving this place another chance. I sadly, am changing my review to NOT recommended.

I ate here with my boyfriend who was visiting from out of town, and the terrible food left us both steamed and feeling a bit ill.. I had a spinach and beet salad - and the beets were completely dry. He had a sad excuse for a burger, and couldn't even finish half of it - and the fries were disgusting! We were suspicious when we walked in and saw the place was completely empty, and should have trusted our instincts. It's altogether maddening when you get food and service that is this bad in new york. I live in the area and will be pleased when the day comes I walk by and see this place has gone out of business. Don't go there!

I met a friend here for dinner who had been here before, and I was very impressed. She said I had no idea what a dive this place was before, but no more. We had a really good meal with some good wine. I had the meatloaf which was awsome, she had cod which I did not taste but which she said was quite good. Love this place !

I have been to FCC many times over the years and it was always "OK" but fun. I wrote a review back in May in anticipation of what was to come, and I finally visited the restaurant last night...
Now I have just one word to say: WONDERFUL !!
Great food, stiff drinks and friendly service. Love the new room too, it feels much bigger.
I have yet to try out the new brunch meu, but I will soon.

We went into Film Center brunch with high hopes. The menu looked great and we were in desparate need for a complimentary "hair of the dog that bit us". But our bubble was soon bursted when we sipped by far the worst bloody mary ever. I'm actually not entirely convinced that she knew how to make a bloody mary. When our food arrived it was cold, the eggs were over cooked, and chances of us getting some hot sauce were slim to none as the waitress never managed to check back with us after we placed our initial orders. We noticed that the other reviews a back dated a few years and just wanted to throw in a more recent experience. I would say there are so many options for brunch in this neighborhood that you can definitely stand to pass on this one.

So the service isn't great. But, if you have the time to sit a while and enjoy yourself, the mimosas are unlimited and the food is just what the hangover/sleepover crowd ordered. We've tried the veggie burger, yam fries, eggs benedict, and strawberry pancakes. Everything was scrumpcious and the mimosas were strong!

The food was pretty good, but the waitress could not have cared less. It was New Years Eve and the place WAS NOT packed at all, so she doesn't even have that excuse. It took forever for her to take drink orders, get menus, and the arrival of the food took almost a year. I spoke to her at the bar during dinner (cig break) and she was really sweet. But this is not the career for her.

It seems like a hit or miss place worth trying different items to know what is fantastic and what to definitely avoid. The wraps here are simple but SO delicious, the fries are addictive and potentially wonderful as long as you don't have the food delivered (when finally delivered (after 45min., the fries were horrible, hard - you could break a tooth) Also, the guacamole is fantastic but the chips taste like they were a week old. Such potential... In person is the way to go with this restaurant and worth the return for the good items!

congregate here for drinks & a rest stop after the day's auditions, rehearsals & long hours on the set!

The first feeling I got walking in here was that it was desperate to be a hipster hangout. But when there's not a lot of people here, the decor makes is look closer to a Planet Hollywood than a hangout. The bartenders are more adept than the kitchen staff--the menu has too many cuisines on it and the results aren't pretty. Plus, there are either too many TVs in here or not enough (they're distracting but not eye candy), but the clumsy design makes it hard to tell.
