I went to Mark Garrison Salon - and had the misfortune of having Maria Palazzo cut my hair - well, the first time more time was spent on my hair and I was satisfied. The second time, she barely took her time, went scissor happy--and over layered my hair...clearly, she didn't care about the finished look nor took pride in her work. With what they charge, a client should not be rushed. I had to go somewhere else to fix what Maria had done--and she is supposedly a senior stylist?! Based on what standard?! One star is too much if you want my honest opinion. Anyone knows that if you have fine hair - you DO NOT over texturize or creat too many layers - it thins it out!! What a rip off and waste of time. I went elsewhere and they cleaned it up nicely. Save your money.

I visited Mark Garrison Salon for a haircut with Mark a few months ago and was completely blown away. (no pun intended!) Mark is what they call a real master stylist. He cuts with intense precision and enormous detail and truly gave me the BEST haircut of my life! I have long curly hair and Mark added long layers in just the right places which gave an actual shape to my mane of curls for the first time. And even though it was pricey for me, he gave me such a fabulous cut that after 3 months, I still don?t even need a trim. But I did just go back to the salon for a color appointment with Sam. After studying my features and coloring, he took my over processed, brassy August hair to the most amazing shade of copper. It?s so beautiful and so natural that it really looks like I was born with this color. I feel so fortunate to have found this dream team. In addition to loving everything about Mark and Sam, the salon itself is so lovely. Everything from booking my appointment to the greeting at the door to the great people who assist, was handled with true professionalism and a smile. The salon has absolutely none of the pretentiousness that most Upper East Salons have.

My friend reccommeded I go to Mark Garrison for my next haircut. Mark cut my long, straight boring hair into a hip and easy to manage style. Everytime I pass a mirror I do a double take and have received so many compliments over the last few days I will never get my haircut anywhere else! Mark took into consideration my low maintenance lifestyle but was still able to give me a fashionable cut that literally just falls into place when I wake up in the morning. Ive never had bangs before but Mark knew that they would flatter my face shape and bring out my eyes. And he was more than right! You can trust you are in good hands when you are in Mark?s chair, he will give you the best cut and style that works for you. The haircut is worth every penny and then some. Not to mention he is a sweet guy and is easy on the eyes!!

NOTE-It looks to me as if some of the "Excellent"
reviews of the salon are more like ads rather than reviews. I would guess that they were written by someone who works for the salon
Read them carefully and see if you do not agree.

I had my hair cut by Mark Garrison 3 weeks ago -I was hoping that a bad cut would start to improve after a few weeks- unfortunately it hasn't. My right ear sticks out through my hair - a problem I never had before this cut.
I also have a short chin which Mark emphasized by sloping my hair away from my chin.

When I told Mark I was not pleased with the cut he actually yelled at me and told me I had personal issues. Huh??
I would have thought a professional stylist might actually attempt to fix the cut .

Finally, Mark multitasks when cutting hair- he was cutting other people's hair as he was doing mine.
For $350 I would hope to get individual attention.

On the other hand, Patricia, the colorist ,does an excellent job

Note- I have a sneaking suspicion that some of the
"glowing" reviews of the salon on this site were probably written by Mark himself or someone on his staff. They almost seem like advertisements for the salon.

I've been writing about hair and beauty for many years and have been to some of the best salons/stylists in the city. I have very thick, wavy hair and no one could ever make it look right--it was always bulky, frizzy and unflattering. Mark was recommended to me by a friend and after a short consultation, he put me completely at ease so I gave him carte blanche to do whatever he wanted, the only stipulation being that I didn't want it too short. The result was amazing--my jaw-length cut had lift, fullness and beautiful, frizz-free curl. I have never received so many compliments and I'm in the hair biz! I also call it the cut that keeps on giving because it lasts a full six weeks without losing its shape. Mark is truly a genius & I can't imagine ever going to anyone else.

I now spend 1/2 the time drying it and dont have to worry about the weather and humidity!!

i was recommended by a friend to see Gianni a jr colorist at Mark Garison Salon, i was hesitant at first because of the "jr" in his title, but he is amazing, i thought my color was nice before i went to see Gianni, but after a few hours of highlights and color my hair looks amazing, i never thought my hair could look so good and natural! If you are looking for great color with someone who takes his time and listens to what you want...see Gianni!

Although $350 may seem like a lot to some for a haircut, it is well worth it! Mark knew exactly what I was looking for and listenedd to what I had to say. He also gave me some great tips and products for stying my wavy hair on a regular basis which have worked amazingly well at home when I style it. I have never written a review on here before, but and am so happy with my results that I wanted to help others in their quest for a gorgeous cut. Once you invest the $ in a haircut/stylist of this caliber you will understand and see what a huge difference it makes! His assistant Bri was very nice and did a great blowout w a lot of body. The front desk people had a bit of an attitude problem, that would be the only negative coment I could say about my experience at the salon. I am looking forward to my next cut with Mark!

A friend of mine recommended Mark Garrison Salon to me a few months ago. I called for an appointment and asked the receptionist to recommend a stylist for a cut and color. I got my color done by Johnny...I was comfortable from the start! He was polite and funny and really listened to what I wanted. After my color I got my hair styled by Maria. She was friendly and professional. During our consultation, we worked together to find the cut that would look best for my face and style. Throughout the process I always felt comfortable to add my opinion and I ended up with a great cut and color! I am so happy that I was referred to Mark Garrison and hope to see Maria and Johnny everytime I go!

I have been going to Mark garrison himself for years. Sadly his prices went up thru the years, So I stopped going to the salon. After a couple bad cuts I went back to the salon and asked mark for his help. His cut as always was AWESOME! He assured me that other stylists in the salon would take care of me at 1/2 his price, He said "Maria will take better care of you than me and give you a better blowout TOO!" Wow is he right. Maria is a doll, and cuts just like mark. I love the both of them and the way they get along. The whole staff laughs and teases eachother, just making you feel welcome and at home.

I have jumped from salon to salon since I moved to new york, never being wowed, until I tried mark garrison salon. I was recomended to MARIA from a co worker, I wasnt convinced that any hair cut was worth $95. Boy was I wrong. Maria was kind, friendly and cared about how I cared for my hair. She had great suggestions and wasnt pushy, And The BEST PART is my hair looks great when I do it myself!!!!

I shouldn't share my secret but I had tried so many place in NYC for highlights and Marc Garrison is truly the best. And my colorist is Joesph and he is just so incredible. Everytime I leave there I am just so happy with it and it's not a fortune either!!!

gossipy- rushed-rude and awkward

sofije does good color

maria does haircuts and does not really listen to what the customer wants
i am not pleased with my hair cut. if you are going to pay 300 dollars for a cut and color you should get much better service

I had my hair cut by Redd, and it was by far the best cut I have ever had. I am finally in need of another cut, six months later. My friends noticed it as well. I had been going to Bumble and Bumble for years, but the cut I got from Redd made me a new customer. I found out about the salon by asking a woman whose hair I loved where she got her cut and who did it. I'm very picky about this stuff, and I was thrilled. I even called a week later to tell them. I got exactly what I asked for, only better.

I recently had a terrific experience at Mark Garrison Salon. I had sugned up for the color class on Wednesday night and it was terrific. I had a great experience. Each of the students asked what I was looking for and the instructor decided on Horace. He was terrific. The experience was wonderful including the great scalp massage during the wash. The color hightlights came out natural and wonderful. I loved every minute! Thanks for a great all around time!

My first time at Mark Garrison was a blast! I went in for single process color. My hair had been left unattended for a couple months, so my roots had grown out... Patricia succeeded in giving me a brilliant new hue, even tone, and unbelievable shine. My hair hasn't felt this healthy or looked this good in a long time. The complimentary blowout with Crystal was one of the best I have ever gotten, surviving even the dreadful rainy weather outside. All the staff was incredibly friendly in a very relaxed atmosphere. Highly recommended.

I have been going to Mark Garrison for years, and when I moved in February,-- for convenience I tried another salon. In short, the salon had ruined the color of my hair.

I immediately called Patricia at Mark Garrison and explained what I had done. Patrica was amazing, she fit me in right away, explained what had been damaged and began the color correction process --she even added a fabulous treatment to help rebuild the texture of my hair.

There are times in life where convenience seems the more practical choice- but when it comes to your hair- it's simply not! I appreciate and enjoy the talented professionals at Mark Garrision - and Patrica is definitely one of their best colorist!

This was my first time at the Mark Garrison salon- it was a wonderful experience. The salon is upscale
and appealing; the staff is friendly and accomodating. When I met Mark to discuss my haircut I was
immediately put to ease. I instantaneously trusted in his knowledge and expertise. He seemed to know
what I had in mind and he talked about his ideas. I told him to "do whatever he felt was right for me." I
am so happy that I gave Mark this control because I was so happy with the result. My whole experience
at the Mark Garrison salon was a positive one, from the upbeat atmosphere to the quality service I could
not have been more satisfied!

A great place for highlights!!! I get so many complements on my highlights, they often mistake them as my natural color. Patricia is the best, she keeps track of what color you get for each visit. This is great because you do not have to try to remember what she did last time...she's fantastic!!!!

Rachel took my suggestions when she cut my hair. She spent time creating the look that I wanted.
She told me that the haircut would grow out but look good as it did. She was not exaggerating!
Rachel also told me specific ways to care for my hair which is color processed and dry. I have taken all
of her suggestions and am very pleased with the results.
Usually, I like the cut in the shop and then have trouble maintaining it myself. I am so pleased that I got
a workable style that fits me to a T.

Just moved here from LA, had no idea where to find a hair salon. My coworker told me about Andrew at Mark Garrison Salon. Shes been seeing him for a year now and reasured me he's the best. So I went to meet him and consult, by his honest demenor I just had a feeling this might work out. So the following week I had an appointment with Andrew .It was a wonderful experience,he's very detailed and takes his time .I really appreciate that. The color looked so Great I felt so happy. I will be going back there to see Andrew for sure!!!

In the past, I've experienced some horrendous results after going to model nights at various hair salons throughout the city Some problems I have encountered in the past were: poorly supervised students, snobby/pretentious atmosphere, poor treatment of hair models (who, mind you, are still PAYING CUSTOMERS) and lastly, failure to ask ME what I wanted done to my hair.

Much to my pleasant surprise, I did not experience any of these problems at Mark Garrison. The student was thoroughly supervised by a trained stylist (and even Mark himself!) and I felt like the whole team worked together to assess my hair. They asked me what I want and I got it. The entire staff was extremely welcoming. I really think I got more than a $40 haircut from this experience. Further, I will probably return as a customer of the supervising stylist, Maria (Marie?) she was great!

Mark Garrison is an exceptional salon in mid-town that blends elegance and service, making clients feel as though they are the most important person in the salon! From the colorists to the stylsts who dry your hair, everyone is exceptional! The staff are very attentive, polite and cater to the clients needs! It is sometimes a bit difficult to get thru the receptionist and they are a bit strong as gatekeepers. As a long time customer I have a rapport with my colorist and he is very flexible to take me despite his schedule!
Overall Mark Garrison has a wonderful staff and I always leave the salon with a smile on my face and a wonderful new look which I get tons of compliments on!

Prior to coming to Mark Garrison, I had bounced around to a number of salons for my color. But when I was fortunate enough to come under the care of Andrew, a colorist with an astute sense of what color looks good on a client, I knew that I had found a home. Andrew reasoned that my color needed to be lighter to better complement my skin tone. I was a little reluctant at first, more comfortable with a darker color. But, his suggestions made sense and I intuitively felt that he had a good sense of style. So, I put myself in his hands. I'm glad that I did. In the short time that I have been going to him, I have received at 8 compliments. Some from people who don't usually comment about others' appearances. And, once I got away from the darker color and actually tested the water with a lighter one, I could tell the difference. So, I would recommend him to anyone.
Also, I like the salon. It is clean, light and airy.

After trying many high end salons in NYC a friend told me about Mark Garrison and their model program. I decided to try it and was lucky enough to get Andrew as my colorist. Andrew takes time to get your color just right, whether I go in for a root touch up or highlights. I get many compliments on my hair color and have recommended Andrew many times. The salon is beautiful, everyone is so nice, and they let me bring my dog! What else could you ask for?

There is only one colorist I have let touch my hair in the past 6+ years and it is Joseph, the head colorist at Mark Garrison Salon. He is an absolute genious - people literally stop me on the street asking me about my color. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.

I have been a MG customer for some time, and enjoyed the services of both junior and senior stylists. I have experienced remarkable results in the model-night program in both the hair styling and color platforms. I have enjoyed the attention of the salon owner on more than one occasion and remain amazed at his incomparable talent and uncompromising craftsmanship. Have had amazing haircuts from Redd, Sanae, Rachel Lee and Tiscia. Patricia is an awesome colorist with outstanding technical skills, a practiced eye achieving consistent and amazing results each and every time. I cannot envision anyone else coloring my hair or venturing anywhere else for styling. Salon is spacious and fresh coffee and ice water are on hand on every floor. I have recommended the salon for years and will surely continue to do so. See you there. Peace.

I was very reluctant to start coloring my hair, having always liked my natural color. Joseph was recommended by a friend, so i gave him a try. The result was so natural looking that my own mother didn't realize i started to color my hair. Joseph's assistants and the rest of the staff are friendly and very professional. I highly recommend the salon.

I have been going to Redd at Mark Garrison for a year now and I would never go anywhere else. I am one of those people who has always gone for high end haircuts and been disappointed by the way other hairdressers at other well-known NYC salons have styled my hair; until I saw Redd for the first time I'd always say after a haircut, "I have to fix it when I get home". Redd, on the other hand, always makes me look my best and I push off washing my hair for as long as possible after one of her cuts! She is super thorough and actually listens to what you're looking for, never rushing through the experience. I always look forward to going back for a cut.

I have never met anyone as passionate about hair color as Patricia. She often talks about new techniques she?s learned and new classes she?s taken. It?s obvious that she believes in staying up to date and, as a result, her clients are very loyal. Her name seems to be mentioned more than any other coloris on Citysearch. The person who used to cut my hair recently left, so I tried someone else and it was disaster!! I came back and Mark fixed my hair. He gave me such a great cut, that he?s the only person I?m going to see from now on. Yes, he?s expensive, but his cut seemed to last longer than most. I usually get my hair cut every 6-8 weeks, but after going to him I went 4 months! Plus, the cut/color I received was so bad that I cried for days. My hair was so fried that it took half a year to get back to where is was before. I will never stray again!! Just as a side note, that was not the first time I tried another salon. I moved an hour and a half outside of Manhattan 2 years ago and have been looking for someone closer. The results were terrible. Now, I know it's worth the drive!!

I have lots of fine, naturally curly hair. Mark is the best (only) person I have found who can style and cut it so I am happy with the outcome, and for months. I have been travelling to NYC from Baltimore to get my hair done by Mark since 1992. The trip is a pain so I have tried all the recommended folks in Baltimore and Washington, DC - even the famous ones who cater to our First Ladies - to no avail. After a visit to Mark I often get comments from strangers about the shape and fabulous cut of my hair.

After all these years I also need color and Sam does it so it looks great and completely natural. Everyone at the Garrison Salon makes sure you are totally satisfied before they let you out the door!

While I was getting my hair highlight by Patricia she was more like a friend talking so my time there was spent reading a magazine but we got to know each other as friends.I was highly satify with her work my hair came out very natural was not over did with color.This salon is worth going to if you want a perfect change and you wont have to regret that the color came out bad.

I come from a family with BIG hair. My mother and sister both have beautiful and very curly hair. Mark Garrison has cut my mom's hair for years and every time she comes out with a fresh look that makes her curls fall naturally while still giving them extra definition. My sister has very tight curls and has also worked with Mark - she let him work his magic and got a style that was very short which was different for her, but looked amazing. I have gotten my hair cut at the salon and was thrilled with they way my long, thick, wavy - but frizz-prone! - hair turned out. This is a great salon if you have thick, curly hair and want a cut that will help control your hair and also bring out its natural beauty.

I have been getting highlights from Patricia at Mark Garrison for seven years now. I started going to her in 2002 when I lived in NYC and got the recommendation from a friend of a friend. From my very first highlight, I was a fan. She did an amazing job and my hair color has never looked so natural. In 2005 I moved to Washington DC. I have since tried almost every high end salon in DC looking for someone who can match the results I get when Patricia does my hair and have been disappointed every time. So, I now to NYC every three months (often up and back in the dame day) just to see her - she's worth every penny! The blowdry that's included with every color service is also a major plus.

I have seen a stylist and colorist at Mark Garrison for six years now. After bouncing around from one high end salon to another I have finally found a salon I am comfortable with. I have had haircuts by Mark, Golan and Sanae and have always been delighted by the outcome. Joseph is a master colorist who weaves highlights in the most natural way. He considers complexion, season, lifestyle when choosing the highlight tones and the result is near perfection.

The staff is terrific. I always feel comfortable when I am there. I do highlights with Patricia. She is really great. She always makes my hair look really natural. I did a lot of research before choosing this salon. I went in with questions and photographs of what I was looking for. Patricia gave me all the correct answers and helped me decide what was right for me. The first time there, I was lucky enough to get a last minute appointment with Mark. I had not cut my hair in a long time, and he gave me what I was looking for. I left the salon that day feeling like a million dollars. While I continue to color with Patricia, I have since cut my hair with Sanae, who I also love. Its not that Mark's cut wasn't great, but he is on the very expensive side, and my style does not need his attention every time I cut. Even though Mark is considered a "celebrity stylist", the atmosphere in the salon is very down to earth.

I have been going to Mark Garrison over 4 years. Sam has been doing my highlights since then. He is willing to work with you until you are satisfied and he is very patient. I would definitely recommend Sam. I really like how he leaves my hair. Yuki used to cut my hair and he was great, good haircut, timely and great style. Unfortunayely Yuki left and I tried Rosie who was recommended by other staff members, unfortunately my experience was terrible. She was doing 3 people at the same time and result as can be expected not good. Now I cut my hair at a different place. Staff is very friendly.

I've been having Patricia do my color for years, whether its a single process, highlights, lowlights, or a combo of them all and she is wonderful! She puts her heart into her work and is very meticulous. She is very eager to please but will be honest ,if you ask her, about what she thinks would be the best thing for you to do. My only complaint is when the color is done and I go down to the 1st floor to have my hair dried and styled. While everyone I have used tries their best they seem uncomfortable about getting it right and it takes much longer than necessary to leave with a nice "do"

All of the best haircuts I have ever had have come from Mark Garrison. And, without a doubt, the best and most natural color has come from the talented hands of Lyuba. Lyuba is like a painter. A great master!
She spends a long time getting your color just right and my hair never looks better and more natural.
If only nature had blessed me with such gorgeous color!
Mark has given me some wonderful haircuts in the past. More than once, women have stopped me to ask who cuts my hair. He excels at cutting hair at any length. i have gone from long to short or kept my hair longer. The staff is kind, friendly, and warm. Overall, this is a wonderful place.

I have been going to Mark Garrison for several years. Patricia is the best colorist. She always makes my hair look so natural and pretty. I always get compliments whenever I get it done. I get my hair cut all the time by Rachel Lee and am a big fan of hers. She makes sure I come out of the salon looking great with a perfect stunning hair cut. The salon itself is beautiful and everyone there makes you feel comfortable making sure you have a drink of water or even a cup of coffee. I always leave happy with great hair !

WOW! I have been going to Mark Garrisons salon for years now. I no longer live in the city , but it 's worth driving in for the great colorists and stylists. You are always welcomed by a profesional staff. They are polite , helpful and don't ask personal questions of clients or talk about other clients. My favorite colorists are Joseph and Sam. I have been seeing Sam for color latlely because his price is more affordable for me at this time. I think they are both wondeful and I get lots of compliments so I guess others must agree. Rosey is my stylist and I just love her too. She spends as long as it takes to have my hair looking great. Her cuts are flattering and easy for me to do on my own. I guess thats why I still go into the city to get my hair done.

I have been coming to Mark's salon for several years now and used to go to a great stylist who kept rising through the ranks to a point I could no longer her. But both she and the salon employees were gracious and understanding and didn't make me feel badly and in fact, they recommended another stylist at the salon in my price-range.

I've been "seeing" Maria for over a year now and she is great! Very easy to talk to and she even give me free bang-trims between my appointments to boot!

I remember the first time I got a har cut at the salon I received a call the next day from the receptionist to see if I was happy with the service overall and my cut - you can't beat that!

I first got a haircut with Mark when he worked at another salon- I was 23 and it was my first big splurge. That was over 10 years ago and I have been hooked ever since! I have been going to his salon for about 8 years now and am always happy. I have tried other places for highlights and found there is no point- I see Patricia and she gets it perfect every single time. It also lasts so much longer than other places I've tried when I've been out of town (or tried to get away cheaper- big mistake.) I have had different people cut my hair- Sanae does awesome soft bangs. I also had people in training and they were great! My haircut grows out beautifully every time and I trust the stylist to frame my face the best way.The cuts cost more but the stylist spend an hour cutting it, you get an amazing blowdry, it grows out beautifully so you can wait a little longer between cuts and look great! That's value!

I've been salon's client for over 4 years now. I cut my hair with Marc and it's always an incredible experience. The only things I have to tell Marc before he starts working on my hair, is whether I want to keep it long or go short, have a classy or a fun look. He figures out the rest. And I trust him completely. He's genius at seeing which cut would compliment you best and a master in creating that look. Yes, his cuts are pricey, but the truth is they only get better as they grow. Once I went for 6 months without cutting my hair and still had people stopping me on the streets to ask where do I get it done.
Patricia is my favorite colorist. She is great at what she does. I'm very particular about my color(highlights) and after years of "color disappointments", I finally found a professional who always! gets it right.
So... definitely 5 stars!

For the past 6 years I have been frequenting the Mark Garrison Salon and continue to receive numerous compliments on my hair cut and color. Upon entry one is always welcomed with professionalism. Both Joseph and Sam are amazing with color. They always seem to make sure that their clients leave with a "natural" beautiful color. Rosie can give a precison cut like no one I have ever been to. Her haircuts do seem like they take a long time but at the end are worth every minute. They are easy to style when you try yourself at home and last longer then any other cut I have gotten. The salon is clean and well kept. Unlike numerous other salons I have tried you never leave feeling like the employes are talking behind your back. This salon is definately a cut above the rest!

I have tried many different hair salons over the years but this is the first upscale salon that isn't pretentious. There is no snobby air, or attitude just a warm welcome by a staff truly dedicated to making your visit a relaxing, pampered and pleasant experience. I know each time I come here I will be treated as if I'm the only one having a cut and color that day. The color process isn't rushed or haphazard. Sam examines every hair on my head and talks about my color before starting and when I get to Sanae for my cut she literally has touched every hair on my head before I get out of her chair. Most places know how to cut and color hair but the staff at Mark Garrison raise this to an art form. When my friend first introduced to me to the salon four years ago she said that it would be an awesome experience,and I have never been disappointed. I guess the best measure of Mark Garrison's Salon is probably to say that no two people ever leave looking like they've been given the same haircut or style. Each cut and color is as unique as their clientele. In my opinion to be treated this well, and look and feel as good as I do when I leave is worth every penny!

I have super thick long curly hair and have gone to lots of places to get highlights done with mixed results. Sam at Mark Garrison always listens to what I want and makes great suggestions. I have been going to him for a couple years now and always love my hair from the moment I walk out of the salon and it also looks great for a long time afterwards. You don't have to book ages in advance and the staff suggests product but I've never felt obligated to buy. Overall a wonderful experience and not crazy expensive like some midtown salons.

This is an amazing salon. The service is impeccable and the staff are very friendly. I used to frequent the salon, left and now I am back to stay. I have had so many compliments on my haircut from Mark than I ever had before. He is truly a genius! He does command a large fee but it is definitely worth it. He really takes his time and creates a masterpiece. His assistants are helpful and they do a fine job blowdrying your hair. I give his salon a 5 star rating.

i found goland about 10 years ago thru allure magazine. i was so thrilled what he did to my hair,never looked that great. i live in the boston area,and make a special trip to ny to get my hair cut. it is so wort h it. my hair is very thick and curley and everywhere i went people had a hard time with it,sometimes i would leave a salon and i felt like i was wearing a helmet. goland does magic.

I couldnt believe it when I was about to leave the salon because I couldnt afford a $90 or above haircut, when the recepionist told me about the junior stylist, MARIA. She said her cuts were $65 and was trained personaly by MARK GARRISON himself!!! She was sooooo sweet and attentive. She really listened to what I had to say. Her price is discounted because she is just starting out. In the end I got a great cut for a steal and MARK came over and told ME how great I looked. I was treated like I spent $500 that day. Highly recommend Maria!!!

It is amazing that no matter how many times I have my hair cut by Mark, each time it gets better and better! I am always complimented when I leave the salon and even stopped on the street by strangers who inquire about my cut and color. My doormen even notice and always praise my haircuts when I return from the salon. I have always been very pleased with Mark?s professionalism, expertise and most importantly the finished product. He is a great stylist and definitely a master of his art! Although there is usually a wait for his creativity, it is very worthwhile! I asked for a new look of bangs and she made me look like a punk rocker. She new very well that I live in a small town in Westchester and having a haircut like was not appropriate. I had been coloring my hair with store bought hair color for a long time and my hair became very dark and dull. I consulted with other hair colorist who had told me that unfortunately, I could not change my hair color without damaging. Someone recommended Joseph at Mark Garrison and I went for a consultation and he is so dedicated to achieve the results that you want that he goes an extra step... He spent 4 1/2 hours on my hair and did a great job. I am very pleased with the results and as long as I can afford, I will not go anywhere else for color.

So I was giving a concert out of town and forgot to pack my curlers. Mark's cut was so good it didn't matter. I just combed and sang. This man is a genius with scissors. I have long, thin hair that looks poufy and wild after he's finished. The cut just gets better as it ages. It's worth every penny.

I have been a client of Mark Garrison for many years receiving a celebrity look each time I leave the salon. My hair is long and he cuts it so I have the ability to wear it curly or straight. I have always appreciated Mark for his professionalism and perfection but mostly it's his friendly and engaging personality that makes sitting in his chair so fun. When I explained to him that having long hair feels youthful..... he casually replied that it could go the other way, as well. My first trip to the Mark Garrison salon was an apprehensive one. Imagine my suprise when I realized I was the only brunette on the colorist floor! I almost left thinking 'what am I doing here?" Especially bc I only wanted to cover my gray.
Well....that was the last time I ever felt that way. Joseph is a GENIUS! I walked out of there absolutely LOVING my rich, glossy color and have been a client ever since.

I absolutely love Mark Garrison's salon. The staff is amazing. I have my hair cut by Red and my color done by Patricia. I really have a fun time while they're working on me. They're easy to talk to while somehow managing to never get distracted from my hair. They do a fantastic job every time. I don't find it uncommon to have strangers stop me on the street to ask me where I get my hair done. I always happily send them off to Mark. If you want great hair, Mark Garrison's salon is a sure bet.

I've been going to Marc Garrison for about 4 years now and they are terrific! Luyba does my color and she is the best person i have ever gone to from the most expensive salons in the US to the cheapest. She is so talented and patient. She is a perfectionist and treats each person as if they are in her chair for the first time. The staff is exceptionally professional and always confirm appointments. The products Marc Garrison uses are also terrific. I recommend the hair masks. They are terrific treaments to take care of dry hair from coloring and sun damage. Exceptionally well priced and can't find better colorists in New York City.

A friend recommended I try the Mark Garrison Salon after I told her I'm sick and tired of paid an exorbitant amount of money for highlights only to be consistently disappointed. I have dark brown hair but my highlights look like a natural honey golden color. ONly problem is they are addictive. The colorist's name is Edita, she is great.

Although my name is Terence and here in the USA this is a men's name, I am a ?young? woman! I am from Brazil and in the first time that I stayed in NY, I went to the Mark Garrison salon to cut my hair. I know about the salon because one of most popular Brazilian's actresses cut her hairs in this salon. The actress has a website and she put her photos during her hair's treatment there. In these photos, she looked very happy and after she had cut, she took a lot of photos with a beautiful hair. During her journey in the salon, she also did another color treatments and in her website she showed her photos with her beautiful blond hair.
In the Mark Garrison salon I found a friendly and professional service. When I returned to Brazil, everybody talked about my beautiful hair and where I have cut it. I always said for everybody that asked me that I had cut my hair in a nice place in New York City and I gave the address for everybody that went to this city. I told for everybody that beyond New York beauty circles, Mark Garrison's name was synonymous throughout the country with beauty expertise and celebrity cachet.
Now that I returned to NY, Marc Garrison is my favorite salon. The salon is in an easily place and it is also near my house. I can go to the salon walking and cut my hair becomes a nice thing to do because there I fell comfortable and I know that the salon?s team dedicate themselves to outstanding client services and the latest ideals of appearance. Real people, real styles, real gorgeous!
I recommend this salon for everybody that wants changes their looks, like change the type of hair's cut or the color of the hair or its appearance doing the treatments that they have.

Indeed, the 20% discount prompted me to post this review. After my first few haircuts with Mark, he said he liked my color and asked which salon I went to. I told him I was using my colorist for years and that I liked his work. He recommended that I have a consultation with Joseph and that if I ever decided to give him a try there would be no charge if I wasn't completely satisfied. That was seven years ago. My color is so natural thanks to Joseph's talent.
After having haircuts by Mark for many years, I hesitatingly switched to Senae because of frequent price increases. Senae is an artist and her cuts hold their shape. She takes time and is a perfectionist.

He is really an artist who knows hair texture, color and style better than anyone else i have been to, and i have been to them all. I've been going to Mark Garrison for 4 years now. I followed Red, my stylist, there. She introduced me to Patricia, my colorist and between the two of them, I always come out looking fabulous. The atmosphere is always relaxing and there is a great energy there. Everyone there is very well put together and perfectly coiffed, very important for staff at a salon. After all, would you go to a salon where the stylist or colorists don't look good?
I have recommended lots of my friends to go there and they all love it. For some people who haven't been in NYC that long, the sticker shock is a bit much. But for NYC the prices aren't that bad.

Mark has been cutting my hair since 1995, so I am not exactly a new client. But, yet, after all these years, I believe he is the ONLY stylist to see in NYC. He is an artist. Yet, he always works with the client to achieve hair that she/he is comfortable living in. My advice is just to let him do his design magic. Go ahead; be brave. He has surrounded himself with a talented staff and beautiful space. This all speaks to his own eye for beauty. My only negative advice is that I would steer clear of the Brazilian Keratin treatment. It really fried my hair---and, my hair is virgin (uncolored). By the way, neither Mark nor his staff has ever tried to pressure me into coloring my hair even though it would be much more money in their pockets. You will not go wrong with Mark or any of his staff !!

I have been going to Mark Garrison?s salon for a number of years now, and each time I go, I am even more pleasantly surprised. The entire experience from when you step foot in the door until you leave is exceptional. Everyone there exceeds my expectations. Golan gives an incredible haircut. Highly recommended. You have to be able to trust in order to let him do his magic, but it is well worth it. However, in terms of color, Patricia is my favorite! She listens to what you want, but also gives her opinions in order to give you highlights that compliment your skin tone while looking incredibly natural at the same time. Only negative is that they are becoming more and more popular which cuts into one on one time with your stylist. At times, you feel as though you are passed off from person to person, but the end result is well worth it. Expensive?... Yes. Worth every penny?... absolutely!!

Ive been going to Mark Garrison salon for several years now. The best service of the salon for me is by colorist Sam! He does an awesome job on my hair. When I first met him, I had blonde highlights in y hair and I was very unhappy. I was becoming a blonde! My natural color was in the reddish family but had gone more toward mousy brown as I got a little older. he immediatley said he saw me as a redhead, not a blonde! Now my hair is this gorgeous shade of red (not screaming red or eggplant) and everyone thinks it is my natural color. People stop me and ask me if its natural and then want to know where I color my hair. Sam has such a great eye for color and also a very nice personality as well. Rosie cuts my hair and does a fine job as well., but Sam is definitely my guy. I would never consider coloring my hair elsewhere.

My only complaint (and almost every salon does this, not just MG) is when the stylist lets his or her assistant finish the blowdry with a flat iron. Sometimes they literally iron out all the gorgeous body and shape that the stylist created with the blowdryer and brush. But when the stylist does the blowdry from start to finish, I can honestly say I've had some of my best blowouts at Mark Garrison :)

There was a time that this was an amazing salon, but no more. I stuck around for five bad cuts (with Mark) hoping to get the great cuts I started with, but they never happened. I finally called it quits when I came home and my husband said I looked like Hugh Grant! It is amazing however, that all these good reviews appear AFTER the salon mailed out a 20% coupon for posting a review on this website, which they wanted to read before honoring the discount!

Besides the friendly, warm staff - this is the best place to go for color and cut in the city!
You will feel right at home and never leave without loving your hair - highly recommend Joseph for color & Redd for cuts and blowouts.

After years of looking, I've finally found a salon I've been happy with both color and cut. Patricia is an amazing colorist and will take the time to tweak the color to your liking. Rosie's styles hold up well long after the initial cut. Everyone is super nice and will not push anything on you. Prefer the down to earth vibe here to some of the other high salons with attitude.

While on vacation in Michigan, I decided to get a haircut at a local beauty salon. The stylist butchered my hair. I came back to NYC with an awul bowl cut. I went to Mark Garrison and asked if there was any way that my hair could be fixed. The stylist took over an hour to cut my hair, but when she was done I had the best haircut I've ever had. It was absolutely the perfect cut. I couldn't believe it. They also fixed the color with a glaze. I have never been happier with a haircut/color. I will never go anywhere else for a haircut.

Although I write about beauty and fashion, this is my first review for Citysearch. The reason why I'm suddenly inspired is that I got a haircut by Mark Garrison at his salon and it blew my mind. The guy's got hands as gifted as his eye. I was wearing my hair very Jackie Kennedy style, thinking it elegantly retro. He thought it added about three decades to my 46 years so he sliced two inches off the bottom to little longer than a bob length, which, since I have a long face, turned out to be flattering to my face and neck, which is long and he thought I should show it off. He then angled my hair around my face to show off my cheekbones and created long layers everywhere else so my hair would have lots of movement. It's a style that I love because it makes me younger and even feel younger. As for his salon, it's well-kept, the floors constantly swept, and the staff full of smiles and aiming to please, asking if you'd like something to drink, getting extra towels if your cold, etc. And, if you can't afford Mark's price, there's a real range among his staff, all of whom he personally trained so you can trust their skill. Plus, he checks every haircut that leaves his salon to ensure the quality is up to snuff. Sometimes, he'll even pick up a scissor and do a final snip-snip. That's what I call a "hands-on" business owner.

I've been a client for years at this haven for fashion forward, trendsetting, and state of the art hair design. Mark Garrison keeps the focus where it should be and that is HAIR. You won't find a manicurist or a waxer in the house, only stylists and colorists. They are the best in the field and all at the top of the heap in the over saturated marketplace of hair artists in New York City. It's not surprising since all technicians are trained from within by Mark's extensive apprenticeship program. Why, I've watched over the years such stylist as Sanae, Rosie, Redd, Raquel and Maria move up through the ranks from apprentice to full fledge senior sylists. Once promoted, they all teach their craft to the up and coming apprentices in a great environment where everyone gives back. They've all cut and styled my hair at one time or another and one is as great as the next as each adds their special something into mix. This is all a testament to Mark himself who takes time to train each and everyone to the highest degree in perfectionism in all they do. The color dept is the best in New York City by far with senior colorist Joseph at the helm and all the colorist trained by him. I've had Joseph, Lyuba,Edita, Patricia, Sofije and Sam all perform their magic on my mane and no other salon has ever come close to the quality they achieve. When not doing color on clients, the colorists are developing new techniques to teach in their apprentices. Mark told me that the teachers learn more about their art by teaching it. That is so true, if you have to explain what you're doing then you have to really know your stuff, and that they do!
Above all, everybody is so incredibly nice. That makes perfect sense, I mean, Mark is from the south and his politesse is obviously contagious. His boyish smile and demeanor gets me every time. To add, Mark is the reigning "Scissor Wizard" in my book.
Go, you want regret it.

I have been to many high end salons but my experience with Mark Garrison Salon had exceeded my expectations in every sense of the word. I got a cut with Sanae and and color Lyuba. Sanae was very attentive to my needs and what I was looking for, since my hair is naturally curly it's very hard to style and manage. She gave me a flattering layered cut that I could style my hair curly or straight. Then I saw Lyuba for highlights which it has been the best color I ever had In my life. Prior to seeing Lyuba I have been to many colorist and the always end up giving me a copperish color that didn't flatter my skin tone at all, however Lyuba, she gave a color tone that compliments my skin tone and added fine highlight that made the cut worth a million bucks.Another thing that I loved about the Salon was their staff they are very friendly. Overall it exceeded my experience

No muss no fuss. This is probobly the only salon I've ever been to that considered what was best for me before giving me the latest greatest generic celebrity haircut. The style and shape are completely unique to me and I LOVE IT! Mark is a magician, a really expensive magician, but a magician none the less. If you can't afford him he'll recommend someone in your price range. I was lucky enough to have him cut my hair when I was donating it to Pantene Beautiful Lengths but I've been seeing Raquel ever since and couldn't be happier.

They also gave me a free color service with Sofije for donating my hari to Beautiful Lengths!

I've been a client of Tesa at Mark Garrison for almost three years, and after going to scissor happy stylists who either doesn't listen to my particular hair quandries / concerns, takes matters into their own hands, or just generally gives poor cuts....pleased to say Tesa has broken my bad hair spell. She will not randomly lob off inches if you don't want, she will talk to you and counsel you about any hair "decisions," how to manage a new style, and understands the issues of lots, but very baby fine, hair. She always does a fantastic job and is personable, and you can tell she really likes what she does. Her cuts also last and grow in seemlessly, unlike other stylists whose cuts only last a few weeks...which is key if you do have fine hair like me (because a bad cut will leave you with either A: scissor marks or B: blunt ends and shagginess! yuck!) I recommend her above anyone! Only catch----she only works on Saturdays and it fills up quickly! I actually moved out of the area (about 200 miles away) and still go to Tesa. Obssessed? Maybe.....Happy customer? You bet. Hey....what's worse? A crappy hairdo you have to live with for months because you wanted to either save a couple of bucks or needed a hair fix fast? or a sure thing you can count on and not be upset about? I will gladly take the latter.

Beautiful Lengths -
I'm sorry to say that I was not pleased with my haircut. I had been growing my already long hair, even longer for about a year and half so that I can donate it to charity. I chose Mark Garrison Salon because they were conducting a day of "beautiful lengths" haircuts sponsered by Pantene. Because I didn't want to get a bad haircut, and I was letting a new salon cut my hair I was a little apprehensive. So I went by the salon to them out and saw this woman with a gorgeous haircut. Afterwards I asked the coordinator of the event, if she could please assign a Master Hairstylist (not a junior stylist) to cut my hair. Well she ended up giving me a junior stylist, who did a horrible job on my so-called bandg, chopping them up in pieces. As a matter of fact, she chopped up most of the layers surrounding my face. I asked her to not cut too many layers because I hate when the hair flips up, and what does she do? She gives my layers!!!! Way too many, and the ones around my face are looking quite feathery when I told her I did like the feathery-look. Maybe it's my fault for not speaking up when she started to blab, blab, blab gossip to her friends (co-workers) while she was cutting my hair. I should have told her to pay attention. I won't mention her name, but she knows who she is.

I have been going to the Mark Garrison Salon for 4 yrs now. It is a beautiful, spacious salon, and the stylists know what they are doing. The staff are all very friendly. I have been going to the same stylist all 4 yrs and in that time, the price of a haircut has more than doubled and the quality has declined. I remember they used to pride themselves on really taking thier time to give you the "perfect" cut (3 hrs worth of work), and it showed - not a single split end and a head full of hair as gorgeous as a Pantene model. Now it seems they rush and are sloppier. They also try to pass you off on assistant stylists in training to dry your hair. I don't think that's right when you are paying all that money for a senior or even regular level stylist (plus it's one more person to tip). But the thing that irks me the most is that the cuts and stlyes just don't last anymore (probably because they rush through it). I get it cut every 8 weeks, but within 3 weeks my cut loses it's shape and I have split ends, and I'm not at all harsh on my hair, quite the contrary - I frequently deep condition w/the best products and stay away from chemical processes & flat irons. Several other people I talked to who frequent the salon noticed the same thing I did about the cut/style not lasting. I don't know if this is intentional by the salon to keep you coming in more often, but it is very disappointing, and will probably have me looking for a new salon. Oh, I thought I should also comment on their colorists - nice people, but not good at all w/color - I tried it a couple of times and they really screwed up my hair. Even Mark, the owner, told me my natural color looked better, which means he unwittingly didn't appreciate the work his staff had done. Long story short: I wish they would go back to what they do best - quality cuts and styles that last!

i give it a 10! My hair was salvaged after too many bad haircuts- this is the first time i have worn my hair down in the past 2 years! Yuki was especially nice after i was a half hour late and gave me the first good haircut i have had since i can remember. I never take the time to do something like this but he was really excellent!

Mark Garrison gives haircuts that he "envisions" for his clients. That means you have absolutely no say on how your hair is going to look. He hacked my hair to bits and pieces, ignoring my requests. He has no consideration of his clients ideas about their hair. I spent a good year and a half growing out a haircut my friends labelled the butcher job. See for yourself if you dare.

I was very pleased with my experience and my hairstyle. Golan is an artist and his medium is hair. He studied it, envisioned what it would be and made it so - without any gossip or uncomfortable jibber jabber. I got the sense he truly wanted his work to be perfect; he was meticulous and focused. It was exactly what I wanted. If I had to say something negative it would be that the assistants compliment your hair so much, it's almost to the point of insincerity.

My hair has never looked so good, and he cut it so that I can style it for a varitey of different looks. He's got my 100% recommendation (and I am THE PICKEST when it comes to my hair!)

I called the salon to make an appointment for brow shaping and tinting and was told that they did both. When I caleld back to confirm, they confirmed that I did indeed, have an appointment for both shaping and tinting. When I arrived, however, they seemed confused and said that they didn't do tinting - EVER. Annoyed, I agreed to have my brows shaped anyway. It was fine but absolutely no different then what others do for $10 (except for a slight burn...) Another person gracioulsy agreed to tint them later, but the color didn't take and I was 30 minutes late for a dinner reservation!

I've had great haircuts by stylists at other top NYC salons, including Laurent Prive at Prive. Nunzio gave me the best haircut ever. I had seen a girl in Bloomingdale's, and I followed her to ask her who does her hair because I loved the clean lines of her cut. She referred me to Nunzio. He gave me a modern, sophisticated precision cut.

Mark is the best hairstylist. He is so friendly and attentive to every womans individual style. Once you sit in that chair you feel like a queen. He makes sure you leave happy. And he is a perfectionist and believe me it will show in his work. The salon is clean and has a super friendly staff. If you want a perfect cut go to Mark Garrison.
